Sorry to say if you have an RF900 parked by Mountain Designs on Mercer Street, Wellington, your poor bike has been blown over.
On the plus side, looks like someones scooter has broken its fall.

The ride out to Petone was amiusing this morning. Tail wind all the way.
Not too sure about the homeward leg, although it'll be a help going up the Gorge!

I came down the coast from Kapiti this morning. Got totally battered by the wind and rain. It was starting to get a bit hairy when I was down to 65k due to the headwind with cagers up my tailpipe. Dropped the bike off in Tawa and brought the cage into CBD. Safe journey to all who need to ride home tonight.

I'm here at Island Bay, right on Cook Strait, and it's nuts out here! The GN is tied to the fence to keep it upright at the moment!

Not me Deano.
Mine parks behind Clemengers in Majoribanks Street, and I can see it from out of the window.
And crikey, wasn't that wind this morning great. Just like doing 245 out in the Wairarapa, except without the fear of cops with lasers...

Thats good to hear. Its not nice watching your bike being blown over!
How much do RF's weigh? Must be pretty strong gusts to do that?!

Well, nearly, it was an awsome save by the rider, who ever you are!
Looks like it is a tad windy and I have a headache brewing.
Going home :-)

How much do RF's weigh?
Not as much as you'd think. 208kgs dry. Perhaps 235kg fully loaded.
Still not light, but hardly a BMW or Harley-Davidson.

You under any cover there riffer? I work at the end of Courtenay Place and can't think where there's a covered spot nearby. My flatmate parks under Te Papa but it's a bit far for me, especially in this sort of weather.

Depends on what you call cover mate.
There's some room here - you could probably sneak in behind me and they'd never notice.

Not much different to my current park out back of our shop, will stay where I am for now. These winds are definitely making me nervous though, been checking the bike every hour or so.

I left Wellywood to ride back up to Dorkland about 7am today - the wind was howling something fierce then! Max respect to all you Welly riders who have to contend with that on a recurring basis - must make for some interesting wear patterns on the tyres!
Plenty of bikers going into the capital - I must have been the only one heading out!

Hmmm ... lets see ... ride to work on a shitty day, risk getting the bike blown over, have to carry wet weather gear and store it somewhere at work ... etc or get the missus to drop me off and pick me up after she's cooked my dinner... Tough choice!

Actually, no. I'm a nicely ironed, clean, white business shirt, ready to put on after my shower - I haven't worked how to get her to bathe me .... yet.

Credit though to y'all in Welly that ride in those conditions...

Of course they will - you just have to entice them with a nice sandwich.
Got home safe - realised after I made my last post that I would probably get blown over on the way home and you could have a good chuckle at that.
But fortunately, got home with only 2 scary bits. Hardly need new pants at all....

Hmm, I rode to work, picked glenn up from Boyles later in the morning and dropped him at his place and then rode back to work. I then rode back up to his after and cooked him and his flattie a roast. Pussy! :p

Bastard winds - I have had a few of my bikes blown over through the years and it is absolutely gut wrenching. I guess because there is no third party involved - just Mother nature you end up blaming yourself for parking it there/riding it at all when you know it was going to be windy/not parking it at a better angle/whatever. Some places in Wellington are worse than others but sometimes you don't get too much choice.
I always wonder what the right thing to do is if you see a fallen bike ie do you pick it up (if you can) in which case it could be blown over again and do more damage, or just leave it there for the owner to find? I think at least posting it on here is a good idea - on the off chance the owner is, or is known to a Kiwi Biker. I think I would like to know about it sooner rather than later if it were mine.

Picked up a scooter out the back of the BNZ (State Insurance - whatever) centre yesterday. 30 minutes later it was on its side again. I'm now in a similar quandary.

You people have to remember about parking in James Smith Building.
Ride around the barriers, entirely free and under cover. The only catch is that it's not quite as secure, but I've seen some expensive bikes parked in there.

Im lucky that I can either park my bike where I can see it from my office on the pavement or if it gets windy I just park it in the entrance way of KPMG and it's well protected from rain/wind.

I helped an older chap pick up his BMW tourer on the old hutt road this morning. He was on his way to the ferry - fully loaded up - when his boots blew off the back. When he stopped to pick them up his Beemer got blown off the stand and he couldnt lift it back up again.
Funny thing is I never go that way. Today was the first time, and I dont know why I went that way - I just turned off the motorway and saw him there.
The biker gods mustve felt sorry for him.

Are you sure this isn't a piss take? An RF900 is as likely to blow over as... as... the beehive!
That being said, I pity the owner having to fork out for the damage (and the light crane to pick it up again...)

Everyone used to tell me that it was impossible to be "blown off" a bike as well.... The wind down here is bloody strong! Well the gusts are anyway...
