I have to admit, I have never really thought about this. Mainly thought of reasons why I should leave but here goes anyway.

Nature- I am a huge fan of it. We have everything here, mountains, lakes, native forest. Also I think we tend to look after our nature on the whole.

People- For the most part, all the people I have worked with are hard working and easy to get along with.

Roads- Had an awesome ride on sunday out in the wops. Great twisty roads and im sure there are many more like them.

There must be heaps of reasons why someone would want to move here. These are what I can think of, off the top of my head, from someone who already lives here.

Is that what you were looking for?

1) The women...stunners ever one of them

2) The pay...world leaders in wage dissparity

3) The scenery...beautiful to the point of disstraction, as those two women tourists can testify to after driving off the road on a particularly pretty corner.

4) The wine...Oh I do like the wine its very nice, and alot of the beer is great, it also makes the women look better, actually not being sexist but I believe they use it as well for the same reasons.

5) The weather...Its nothing if not eventful and defined by its extremes

6) The sinister underbelly that exists just below the surface in many aspects of kiwi culture and life...I find it very interesting, particularly some of the heinous stuff that goes on in rural areas.

7) The fact its not europe or america or anywhere else...Keep it real Kiwis and don't follow the rest of the world.....hey where you going, stop sniffing europes butt.

8) The south island...there is no one there, so carry spare petrol at all times. It is stunningly beautiful, just a pity I can't work from home or I'd be there sooooo fast.

9) The summer...getting third degree burns unless you don't douse yourself in factor 50.

10) The airpoints...that you will acrue on trips to see parents, family and friends etc mount up real fast and are actually useful for bugger all.

Wow that was harder then I thought it would be.....:chase:

YES and NO... There are other places that have the same stuff.

People - I finding it hard. I am 25 and working with people that is at least 10+ years older. Is this normal?

Wellington - What can I say, no Blue skies in this region. How is a KB'er to survive this?

Tools - I must say tools are cheap'ish. This open's lot's of opportunities. But this is a lonely road because I get the feeling people here are afraid of strange and new ideas.(But you can make a killing once you are going!!!)

No Cheap labour - I don't know about you, but I am not paying $150 labour to get my brake pads replaced.

Bikes and Cars - Auto's Cheap!!! Part's not so cheap!!! Labour unaffordable...

Crime - It's getting there!!! Have not been pulled over for two years... How many people have driven without a licence or without a L plate for that time?

I need more convincing!!!

Absolutely positively a load of shit.

We have at least 10% more sunshine hours a year than Auckland. A couple of decent southerlies and you all want to go running home.

Last Summer was awesome, and the weather patterns are about the same this year. How long have you been here?

If you don't like it, seriously, GO HOME.

Other places do not have the South Island. Been there yet? No traffic, brilliant roads, and heaps of hillbillies to tease.

We don't need to convince you, you need to do what's best for you. All I'm getting from you is negative vibes about a place that I love. I grew up in Auckland, I've lived in the UK, and I will be buried in Wellington.

If you don't like it, you should really do something about it.

Why should we come up with 10 reasons for you to stay in New Zealand?

Find your own 10 reasons..... for you and yours.

If you dont like the area you are in... then move to another part of NZ.

Sure you can travel overseas and see the big world... then you will really appreciate what a beautiful country NZ is.

I know that I will die here in NZ....
I have been overseas - ok it was only aussie... and only for a month...
But I couldnt wait to come back home, cos one month away was too damn long for me.

I am a kiwi born and bred and will die here.
New Zealand is home to me and always will be...

I lived and worked in Lower Hutt for several years and loved it, mainly for the shopping :p but also the people. I could give you 100 reasons why I love NZ and why people should move here, but you have to come up with your own reasons to stay … in the end do what makes you happy.

For a lot of asians its the relative ease of getting into the country and getting residency, etc (compared to america, etc) My mum wanted me to be educated in english speaking country and New Zealand was just an easy place to get into.

That's true... Must be really hard to adopt to another culture and language. I must say if it weren't for NZ I would not have discovered that I like fixing up bikes this much!!! Recently started re-spraying bikes and just want more and more projects!!!

And the bikes are cheap!!! I already have 2 and I am looking for more, more, more!!!

Thanks all!!!

Okay how about this, If I worked in the UK, despite the fact I would be paid more relatively to here. The cost of living would be huge I certainly wouldn't have a bike (petrol, insurance, tax etc etc all very expensive compared to here) and my missus wouldn't be teararsing about the streets of auckland in a WRX turbo on fully comp insurance and 97RON, yes NZ has been good to us and in turn bad for the environment.

So to recap

UK = the BUS

NZ = the bollix

All depends on what you want from your surroundings.

I lived in Westport, Connecticut. Nice, old, and pretty. Big city isn't to far away. Just very expensive to live there. (I think Martha Stewart lived there)

Lived in NYC, New York. 90th and Columbus. Everything is within 5 blocks that you need. Always people on the street. Central Park is gorgeous. Always entertaining. (despite what people say, crime is not that bad until you go higher than 100th street as it gets more and more run down) Easy public transportation so no need for a car or anything. But again, VERY expensive to live in the city.

Spent most my life in Dallas (Plano), Texas. Nice and warm/hot. I love the heat so it's perfect. Can ride 11 months out of the year. Roads are boring. Cops absolutely everywhere! Good jobs. 3:1 hot to ugly ratio in girls. :)

Been in NZ for about a month and a half. Absolutely gorgeous here even being WINTER. Back home in Texas, grass is brown in the summer cuz of no rain, grass in brown in the winter cuz cold with no rain. So much different. I LOVE the roads here. Surprised that most shops aren't open past 6. (always something open back home) People are laid back and nice. (no running you off the road "I'm gonna sue you!" bull shit) I can drink, legally. :)

In the end, my home is Texas. I love it here but I don't have "her" here. I would love come back tho. No better place to raise kids.

All depends on what you're lookin for.

I am a kiwi born and bred and will die here.
New Zealand is home to me and always will be...

I am at least a 3rd generation Kiwi on my Mum's side,my Dad,well lets just say he spoke with a bit of a twang  ..RIP Pop.. RAAF/WWII :niceone:

It's not just about New Zealand but Downunder in general for me.
I like to call it the ANZAC spirit and doubt any immigrant who can not let go or adapt will ever understand. That is not to say they have to forsake their roots.
Like most things it is what you make of it,some people simply can not see beyond the end of their nose unless the answer is handed to them on a plate.
If you have no heart or soul,1000 reasons would not be enough... I don't even know how many times i have seen the lights of Auckland as i have flown back home but do know i would have a $hit eating grin on my face every time those jet engines roar on touch down.
Downunder...Endless roads, more things to see in a lifetime if you have any imagination,Australia just across the ditch,Pacific Islands a few hours away.
Anyone who has immigrated anywhere, whatever the motive has a chance to start a new life, that life is up to them..A clean slate if you like.
If you need a reason to stay, you might want to think why you left somewhere else in the first place...Some folk simply can not adapt to other cultures or environments, its not a crime.
I can't think of one reason to immigrate here and don't give a $hit...!@#$ reasons

1) One of the last targets on earth for the terrorists most other western nations have reason to be scared of

2) Nation isnt completely owned by big business, developers arent able to completely run wild, people still have some say in what goes on. The environment isnt getting completely raped (just lightly sodomised)

3) Your never far away from great beaches, forests or areas of beauty, and its possible to find yourself away from people, and once your there, few creatures you encounter are able to kill you.

4) Stable economy, sure its no run away bull but $10 generally buys you roughly the same amount that $10 brought you 6 months ago. Banks dont forclose, it doesnt take a wheelbarrow of cash to buy food. There are jobs and opportunity, its up to you to make it.

5) Stable government. sure its not always popular or great, but its not about the call the army out on the streets, sell out the next guy if offered a bit of trade, excuse some scumbag because his old man kept someone elses campaign afloat or put only pro ideal judges in work.

6) You can trust the cops more than most world wide, although many locals think they are the devil incarnated, they havent shot an innocent bystander from memory, few die in police custody, cops dont issue instant cash fines, they are pretty well picked and trained and most work hard to do a good job.

7) You cant be sued for bullshit. The law thinks your innocent until its proved otherwise, someone will probably help you if your hurt, your first reaction to anything in this country isnt "am I going to need a lawyer?"

8) No handguns and subsequent paranoia, no school shootings, few kids killed by gunshot- accident or otherwise. Few gated communitys. your kid isnt going to be taking up the crack pipe or smack, well at least not easily.

9) Life is affordable, no huge amount of toll roads, on average wage its still possible to own your own home, medical costs are relitively low, ACC will help you if you get hurt, cars and bikes are affordable, schools dont cost you a bomb.

10) The NZ people are as a whole a good bunch, made up of a wide mix of people who as a whole make NZ a great nation.
