As you know Leather has the lease wind drag, water proofs have more.

What have you found that will reduce the wind drag on your water proofs?

And what type of water proofs do you wear?

I am getting annoyed at the wind drag my couldura has when worn over the top of my leathers, so looking for a solution. Either something applied to the couldra or wearing some other type of waterproofs.

tkns.

Don't know about you mate but if i'm wearing waterproof gear I have no intention of going so fast that drag becomes a problem.

Instead of waterproof gear I just wrap up tight in about 3 rolls of glad wrap, make it tight and wind drag is no problem. I see you ride hondas so I fail to see why this issue would bother you?

Maybe I would... if just for the photo :)

For the record I was riding back from New Plymouth on Monday in the howling wind and bits of rain. The wind drag got so annoying that I took my waterproof jacket off and let the waterproof layer under my leathers to do the job, but in the long run its not good for the leathers. Hence I am asking... and yes... I ride my Honda quick enough in the wind and rain and dark SH3 to know :)

Prehaps your rain suit doesn't fit properly and is too big...its no doubt easier to put on...but will inflate to michelin man proportions in a steady head wind...buy a better fitting suit

I see the problem. Try not wearing anything over the top of your leathers.. Unless your leathers are perferated, then they are waterproofs. Certainly on a short trip like New Plymouth to Auckland leather treated with bees wax will keep you dry without the wind drag of courdura.

rain = water = less grip

most people would be looking to moderate their speed

alteratively use a car when it rains if it bothers you than much

most people thinks that I must be travelling at warp speed....

so what if it was really windy that day? and I am only doing like 120k.

this looks interesting... but only comes in orange and white!

If it's only wind, why do you need a rain suit?

Get some elastic bands and place them at regular intervals along your arms and legs, that should reduce the flapping and drag.

Will also make you look like a bit of a worm.

Oh and perferated leathers arn't the only reason for leaks - forget about the stretch panels?

My leathers have the stretch panels, and a semi liquid leather Balsm containing bees wax waterproofs those areas nicely. Its at the stiching where mine start to leak first, but by then I've been in the rain for hours and travelled a long way.

i disagree...leather is not waterproof. thats all i wear [leather jacket with a denim vest over top] and my under shirts still get a soaking...i may as well not be wearing leathers! and same goes for my leather pants....my legs get soaked to the bone, literally!!

only thing ive found to be totally water proof is actually a cheap santa outfit i picked up for a toy run last year, lol. wore just the shirt, and my top half was totally dry, whereas my lower was soaked [was really hosing down that day too.]

See my post on this, when they DO break up and if you're the rider behind it's like a scene from Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds" when the crows attack.  :yeah:

any idea how the water is getting in?

Might be hitting your forarm and runing back down in the glove? common issue on sports bikes

Warr had a solution for the hands thing. You know those really long plasticy gloves farmers wear when shoving thier hands up a cows ass?

Get some of those to wear over your gloves and forearm.

Wind drag? Who do you think you are? Rossi?
Buy a quality textile suit and make sure it fits. Then the only wind drag you'll get will be internal.

I have been using a BMW ProRain suit for the last few years. It was expensive when I got it (around $300) but it has never let me down.

I've done a lot of riding on naked bikes like the 1150GS and this suit has no real wind drag to speak of.

You sure? I think I am the only one nuts enought to ride SH3 last Monday in the blowing rain :) and rode till 7am this morning around the north island :P But yes I'll take that onboard and check out a few rainsuits

Hey, I've used a RJAYS wet weather jacket over leathers and cordura and although it's not as streamlined as just a normal jacket, it does the job really well. It's because it's designed as M/C rain jacket. Tapered in the waist and wrists and double covers on front zips with velcro tab on the neck - all those add to the waterproofing, but more importantly stops the wind blowing it up like a balloon! Quite cheap too from memory - about $50 a couple of years ago from Motomail - maybe a bit more than that, still cheap good working piece of kit!

Cheers.
