Now that I finally got a motorway capable transport I don't want to miss the summer months riding opportunities. Does anyone know what flies with LTSA for requesting an early test (they have a special form for applying for an exemption, but I reckon the reason should make sense)?

What for? You cant legally ride a larger bike on your Restricted than on your Learners anyway. Legal hours are the same too.

I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for doing between 70 and 100 on their learners. But I would be interested to hear if anyone has been booked for riding at 70-100km/h.
I generally ride at about 90-100 with my L plate on, and have never had any trouble (except from members of the public who seem determined to run my L plate over).

We met some poor sod at the Picton Ferry Terminal a couple of years ago, on learners - caught doing something like 112 k near Kaikoura. So he was 42k over his allowed speed and the cop was throwing the book at him. Actually every single motorcyclist (5 of us) copped a speeding ticket, same cop, similar speeds.
So I guess the moral is - if on learners do not exceed 110 or thereabouts or things can get really bad.
He didn't have an L plate on
