Right WOF time on the bike part collecting Suzuki Samurai and as the title says I have to attend to worn springs front and rear, the mech at the shop was well vauge at best to the actual problem. Also have to get the bushes done.

So who knows or can recommend a place to see with respect to this.

Have they rusted? We used to get that with the Landrovers, but aren't SJ413's single leaf? Shackle pin bushes are easy, get urethane.

Little bit of surface rust where they curve round the bushes, so take them off clean them up and paint do for a wof Motu? I see on closer inspection in the light that he has marked that area with chalk so makes a bit more sense now

Hey
Rusted leaf springs (sirface rust) should not be a wof prob!
If you are unsure simple spray a bit of black ove them, or simply get it muddy!

as for the bushes, Nolathane are good, but the factory ones are cheap too, I think they were about $3 or $4 bucks a set
Simply undo the bottom two nuts on the shackle, then use a jack on the springs to take the load off them, then remove the two bushes form the front of the spring and insert the new ones, easy

Cheers

Cheers for the info, no uni tomorrow so will get under there and have a decent look, but from initial inspection its just looks like rust, though if the bushes have worn out completly (dont see how as have gone maybe 500K since the last wof at the same place) then it could of worn out the spring.

Just because it passed last time doesn't automaticaly mean it will pass this time - jeez,I really get sick of that! He may of looked at them last time and thought they were a bit borderline,so this time it's a fail. You have a problem with that....get a pushbike.

You still haven't said if it's single or multi leaf.....my memory isn't that good and I don't have one here to look at,but you do.4x4 multileaf springs really get bad if used near water, they kinda explode as rust forms between the leaves, multileaf springs are thin...and I've snapped them on brake road tests.Single leaf springs are thicker and won't rust between leaves.Don't try and cover up rust pitting on the springs....well ok,you can if you like - but don't drive that thing anywhere near me,my family or friends. It's only a WoF eh?

Famous last words!!!

My experience is rounded bolt-heads and nuts, lots of CRC and lots of pounding with a large hammer in conjunction with sockets and a G-clamp.

Watch this space.
