lol, fuck that. I thought the 50 odd spam emails I receive a day on my home account was bad! On our work system we are now getting 'undeliverable email' from addresses we have never seen, used, or heard of before. Any ideas? (got virus software etc with regular updates).

I always thought it was someone using our server to send emails out, but after the firewall was installed and all or antivirus/spyware software is well up to date and we still get it, Im not sure. I have a theory that it could be some sort of spam program having a similar return address to mine (or yours) so it comes to us.

Damn annoying none the less

Just this week, we've been getting a heap of those oil and gold stocks spam messages. I get them at home all the while but have never had them at work before.

I've checked into this, because I've been getting about 10 a day, 100% picked up by :love: SpamBayes.

The messages that were sent were not coming from my mail server, they were coming from a Russian IP. However the from address had used my domain. Cheeky bastiges.

I never had spam emails at my personal email account until the ISP implemented spam protection ... since then it's been getting some :( Either way, Mailwasher takes care of the junk :lol:

It will be someone out there using your company address in reply address for their emails. This is usually caused by a person out their with your email address on their PC being infected by a virus. Their is not alot you can do about it. A company I worked for was in a similiar position but a SPAMMER was using out address as the reply address as a result we were getting something in the vacinity of 10000 NFR responces an hour for a few weeks - it came close to killing out mail system:beer:

LIL_Byte .. you should look into SPF (Sender policy framework)
check this link out:
http://www.openspf.org/why.html?sender=robert-bronek-fox%40o2.pl&ip=71.115.142.20&receiver=asmith.loudas.com

this URL was generated by my mail server (asmith.loudas.com)

On another note: Have people read the news about spamhaus getting shut down?

We've had 1276 identified spam in the first 9 hours and 38 mins of today, spread across around 36 users. No one has yet told me of any that have gotten through, since updating the version of MailMarshal we are running (about 3 months ago) I have only been told of 4 spam emails that have managed to get past it.

Vast improvement over the old version, where the detection rate was less than 80%.

we've jus moved moved to dspam, as an extra weighting for amavisd-new and spamassassin to scroe against.

so far after running dspam for 4 weeks we've had about 300 spams get through.

stats:
approx 1500 domains (can't be arsed counting "select count(distinct(domainname)) from domains")
35,000 emails per day roughly

edit: .. got nothing better to do :)

interspeed=# select count(hostingid) from dbt_hosting_domains;
count
-------
2559
(1 row)

interspeed=#

mysql> select count(domain_id) from domains;
+------------------+
| count(domain_id) |
+------------------+
| 7694 |
+------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Sniper - Maybe its time for you to get a new email account......

That is just too many spam emails for one little computer......

Some days I get over 100 and other days I get 20....
I go into my webmail to check it first thing in the morning to clear out the first bunch that come in over night.

Yep many are getting past Xtra.

The spam b*arstads are getting blardy clever.

Its a work account crashe. Been specifically set up for any email addressed to @apexrentals.co.nz or .com that does not have a live account to help us cut down on spam on others work accounts. But it still shows how great Xtra thinks there spam filters to be. Not so great though, cause there are other apex rentals around the world and we sometimes end up with their mail too :p
