I was coming to work the other day, along Oriental parade and came along to the long line of stationary cars. I do the usual pull out and pass (only doing about 20k), when sure enough, someone decides to pull out to park across the road or do a u-turn, just as i"m on her rear wheel. I did my best pre-coffee, crappy bakes, avoidance manoeuvre but hit the side of the front bumper with my leg. There was a loud crash and the next I know is I'm passed the car, still upright with no pain! I look back and the entire front bumper unit lights, spoiler inlcuded. is lying in the middle of the road. All I could think was how bloody lucky was that! I went back to have a chat and she started implying it was my fault because she had her indicator on. Needless to say I felt otherwise, so left her to it. I still cant believe I got off so lightly.

Why do wankers think it's okay to do whatever the hell they like as long as they indicated?!?!?

"I indicated, I can go the wrong way up SH1..."

Tosspots!

Good on ya for re-arranging their front lights!

Last week coming round Basin Reserve to go up through Mt Vic tunnel, I had a bus that is in the left lane beside me just pull into my lane, indicating as it moved over, not before.
I was beside the bus and had nowhere to go but into the lane on my right, luckily car driver saw it all happen and moved over to give me room. If I was in a car it would have been really bad.
He had no reason to move over, except his lane was going slower than mine.
So I followed the bus all the way back to the depo (explains why he was driving like a bat out of hell - no passengers, ready to knock off)
He disappeared into a big shed, so I took the number, marched into the office where all drivers were signing off, and laid a complaint.
Not that they care, but it was very satisfiying to point out , in a loud voice, that I could have been killed cos he didn't check but just pulled over, pushing me out of my lane.
All the drivers signing off suddenly were looking the other way, try to give the impression it wasn't them.
I find buses are the worst, pull out, don't indicate, think they can intimidate bikers out of their right of way.

Nice One. The breaking of the bumper/lights etc. would have absorbed all the force of the impace - s'when things don't break when you hit 'em that it hurts.

Lady luck smiled on you today - she usually urinates on me....sometimes worse.

The bumper of any car that is being driven by someone with baggy pants and a headpiece that is neither a beanie or a hat but some kind of messed up combination of the two will fall off with a swift kick... They are usually only taped on for show anyway.

Nice work. I wonder if she indicated for a full 3 seconds as is required by law? I'm thinking not. People need to realise that indicators mean "I am going to do something in a little while" not "I'm doing something now" or "I've just done something and this is confirmation of that"

He was looking more dazed than usual when he got to work that morning.... Lucky the woman was not driving a 57 Chevy or similar, those bumbers don't pop off quie so easily... ;-)

I'm glad to hear you're ok!

But as much as I hate to say it - your description makes it sound as though the accident was partly your fault. If you want lane-split/filter then you can't expect the cages to automatically know that you're there.

Hope I don't sound like a wanker! Maybe I'm just reading your post the wrong way.

Edit - changed my post.

I reckon it sounds like a 50/50 responsibility wise - she turned without giving her 3 seconds warning (I'm assuming) and he passed without having sufficient visibility ahead (also an assumption, depending on what part of Oriental pde it happened on)

Nahh, that's bollocks. Doesn't matter if cager gave 3sec indication or if where2now could see 5kms ahead. Cage drove into biker's path without looking. End of story. Before making a lane change you need to:-
1. Indicate for 3 secs
AND
2. Make sure there's no one there.

Only fault that could be assigned is that you didn't stop and wait for the cops to get there

I was assuming that they both pulled out at the same time, but I guess if that was the case then where2now would have been taken out completely.

So you were lane splitting up the middle of the road?

I say good for you, you did the law biding thing which is stopped to make sure everyone was ok before leaving. Clearly you were in the right, usually makes no diff on a bike as usually biker always comes off worst. I am glad there was damage to the car as with disregard comes consequence: in this case damage. Sounds like you were polite too which is honourable. I think all cagers that pull out or disregard the lives of bikers deserve to loose a mirror, (which is easiest and nort over the top + you can blame the damage on evasive tactics due for survival) or a bottom of the fist thump to put a dent in side panel if Van. They gota expct somthing, but think of safety first.

I second that. I had the driver of a large 4 wheel drive use that very line on me at an intersection. To which I replied that his car would still be indicating when I rip him out from behind the drivers seat and kick the crap out of him for being so fucking stupid. No collision but really close.

Well done on the avoidance there where2.
