Help! I want my favourite motorbike photo

ever is a black and white photo of Freddie Spencer on the three cylinder NS500 taken at some euro GP. Its a right hand corner, and the shot is taken from behind, to the right and slightly above the bike. what makes it so special is that you can clearly see that the front wheel is tucked under, and it is leaving a dirty big black line on the asphalt. He isnt crashing, thats how he rode the thing. There are a bunch of other lines on the road also because thats how he did that corner lap after lap after lap. Amazing then, amazing now.

Does anyone know the picture? has anyone got it? I want decoration for my new office !

Hey... what corner is that, in McJim's photo? The photo says it's from the 1982 Belgian GP, which was at Spa-Francochamps. I know that course so well but I can't pick the corner. The only one that's that tight is the hairpin before the main straight (at least that's where it was originally lol) but the background doesn't look right in the photo, and nor does the camber of the corner.

Of course maybe the course was different for motorcycles... ?

found it in a profile of Spencer from CW last December. our scanner only does B & W, and I misremembered slightly, you'll see he is turning left pushing the front to set up for the right bender following.

things I like about this: no fag packet logos, one of my favourite riders, on the way to winning his first world championship, for HRC my favourite manufacturer. Plus the photo is bitchin'.

I am going to email Stan Perec and buy a high res one I can print out and get framed (least, thats the plan).

Spencer was a flattracker of course - all the Yanks of that era were trained on their National Circuit,riding 750's at high speed totaly out of shape on slick clay.They could cope with the evil handling Jap bikes no problem,it was second nature to control front and rear wheel slides.

absolutely, thats why they were dominant: the bikes of that era were comparatively evil: Roberts, Rainey, Lawson, Schwantz, Spencer (there were others) could ride them because they had been flat trackers and "super"bike racers, the Euros were on the back foot because the 250's then were all about corner speed and (generalising broadly) they, like me, shit themselves if the thing started to slide. The Yanks just rode around it. Also I believe why the strayans were so good later: production based bike racing and an absolutely cut throat national competition: if you could win there, you could win anywhere:
Doohan, Magee, Gardiner and Beattie spring to mind as examples.

Another thing the flattrackers don't seem to worry about is head shake - on the straights they get down over the tank and put their left hand down on the fork leg....and at 140 mph the bikes go into what we would call a terminal tank slapper.They didn't care,just rode through it.

That ability to ride around problems is what made them dominant,and Rossi and Caparossi seem to be the only ones in MotoGP at the moment who can turn a handling problem into an asset,the others just get stuck.
