Maybe I'll get a payout for all the stress you've caused me for not letting me play?

actually on second thoughts, there possibly is a requirement for 1 japa at the rally... they do make excellant firestarters :2thumbsup .
... so I guess your entry fee could be one ZXR400 (dont expect it back in one piece tho).
Guess you could always tell the insurance co that some big bad HOG riders stole it off you to start their fire with huh?

CB&Me are considering it, we've just received the Deep South HOG travel itinary, looks like an easy cruise so will have to check the work roster. (& dollars - to buy more tassles and chrome blingy stuff with!)
Only worries I have involve traffic lights, round-ma-bouts and sharing the same 1/2 km section of road with more than 5 cages, - oh, and crossing that big-arsed ditch en route.
And Dangerous being in the vicinity, now that IS a worry!!!:Pokey:

You DO know that if the South Auckland bosses know you're up here, they'll press gang you into working in that shit hole. They'll have you doing traffic and tell the Pollies they're cracking down on crime.

I don't see it as a bite, you should know I'm not anti HD - but they have a huge history, and made a lot of bikes that weren't V twins. There was the Aremachi connection (my wife had a 350 Sprint SX) and they even made their own DKW clone 2 strokes.Selective memories for the HD image.Guzzi riders do the same,to them it's only the V twins....but at least the Ducati owners recognise the singles.

As per my PM, I haven't seen any restriction on bike size or age on the entry form and I for one have no problem with an Aermacchi turning up and have not heard anybody else having the 'nothing less than 883' attitude - and if HOG did have such a problem I would do a Grouch Marx on their HOG membership.

yup true... there isn't one, just me trying to rark up the boy...done it good too by the looks of things.
its just the usual, only HD's or Buells can go thru to the rally.
I've been to 5 HOG rallys so far and 2 on my Virago... I just didn't take my bike to the rally site, simple really...and seeing as thats their rules, then its their rally, they can do what they want.
personally I like seeing all the HDs at the rally, its kinda cool seeing what people do to customize their individual bikes, waaaaay diferent to most OTHER brand of bike. Their uniqueness is what attracts me a lot
Riding a bike for me isn't just about getting to a place, its about enjoying getting there, and i love getting there on the Buell :2thumbsup

oh yes... loving it...
oh and to all you folks who are jealous... its HDs and Buells only cos Harley contribute a fairly heft chunk of the Rally costs... they would give more $$$ but they are always disapproving of the fact that the Kiwi Hog Rallies have booze etc... NOT the family image HOG is trying to promote... yes really!
I have been a member of HOG for 14 yrs and made it to most of the Rallies, always had a brilliant time and have made lasting friendships!

some of them are that narrow monded and will not accept s&s powered bikes in custom frames as they are not genuine HD and have heard of one guy being asked not to come back to any future hog events back on his harman

guess it probably depends on which crowd you tend to hang out with doesn't it? Maybe you need to go to more than one before passing judgement?
Been to five now, first one was 95 i think... Dunedin one and damn that was a mission to get too eh BB??
Yup there are some tossers at them but no more or less than those at other rallies. It is just as easy to buy your way into the sportsbike fraternity by buying the latest and greatest bike as it is the HD group, you just need a few more dollars to do it on an HD. MOST people at HOG are like you and me, they have worked hard and scrimped and saved to get the bike of their dreams, which happens to be a classic bike rather than a crotch rocket. Personally I like my Buell cos it does have the history in the engine but makes the most of newer technology as well. Doesn't make me stop liking conventional HDs nor other makes/styles of bikes
And at times it is nice to just check out the Harleys, without getting the usual sniggering from non Hd riders about liking Hds. ;)
And personally I have some good mates that I only get to see at these rallies cos we all live so far apart... it is nice to think that i will get to see most of them at least once a year at the rally
So we will see you there huh? Even just as an onlooker? :innocent:

Keen to avoid the posers and hope not to become one of them just cause I own a harley! After 10 years out of the road bike scene (been playing in the dirt for a while now), hope to meet some real people, have a great time and discover that ownership is as rewarding as the marketing team and HD say it is!

Listen Woody, you are what you are, I dreamed for 20+ years of owning a Harley, now I have one I have learned to put up with the barbs from non-Harley owners and never EVER look down on another man or his brand of bike.
The non-Harley owners I know through KB are the salt of the earth, sure, they give me shit about my tassles and owning a HD but if it comes to the crunch I know they would be there for me. (Just look at Dangerous that let me use his Moto-Guzzi and his doris (Sorry Rashika!) yet he only met me about three times - if that!!
As I say: "It's not the bike - it's the rider astride that counts"
And sure, there are posuers at HOG rallies but shee-it, us real people can have real fun despite them - AND take the piss out of them without them realising.

Hi
Me and Crowe (wife) heading up from Chch on Sunday with a few other Chch members, ferry Mon morning, we are going up the west coast and it will take us a few days to get to Ak. Really looking forward to the rally and catching up with all our Hog friends and catching up with long lost friends and faimly along the way. Going up north after the rally but have to be back in Ak the following weekend. Planning to come back down the East coast but havent made any fixed plans to be anywhere, just going to travel and see where the road takes us.

looks like our plan is something like this...
Me and Dangerous will head up to Nelson on sat, then ferry across on sun morning and travel to Foxton to stay with AJTurbo. Meander our way from there to Taupo via Napier and meet up with BuellBabe. Tootle from there to maybe Waihi or Whangamata via Rotorua, and Tauranga.
Do a bit of a lap of the Coromandel, maybe stay with friends in Tairua and then head off to Auckland on Thursday.
Gonna be a flying trip back tho, leave Auckers on sunday, ferry on monday, home monday night.
Might see you enroute somewhere... look out for a motley bunch on Buells, Guzzi and Yammyhahahaa :Punk:

Ermmmm thats right. You are appearing sunday and there was a thread about it methinks?
Ohhhh kaaaayyee.. Well.. bad timing guys. This weekend is the Martinborough Fair (1st weekend in Feb and March) and every 'Lady that Lunches', short sighted SUV driver, mad pottery expert, frustrated people mover pilots, little white van men and the dreaded little blue truck guys will be out in FORCE shepherded by the Police.
Not a good day to go through Martinborough...

sounds like we may set up something. We will only be going as far as foxton on the sunday, prob leave reasonably early, dont think we will manage the Helicopter fundraising ride in the morning.
send us a pm with your ph number, hopefully will catch you up at the rally anyway... knowing me and BB, we will prob be the only chicks on Buells anyway, prob easy to spot ;)

Well, I laugh to myself now, as with all you hog rides going to the rally does that mean that you guys will be firing up your engines before it evens gets dark to the be the first to leave.
I am only have a laugh here boys and girls, but it does seem to be that at every rally, you harley riders (and I do love Harleys btw), get up at the crack of dawn, start your bikes earlier than the birds yawn, let alone tweet! and then proceed to shout a conversation across to each other.:nono:
Can you guys tell me why this occurs.
So I hope you all have a great rally, and it will be good to get some sleep at the Vincent County Rally if you guys are up there.....tee hee

Staring bikes up at sparrows fart???? yeah its always been a mystery to me too... but its not just HDs mate... been to a few different rallies over the years and the worst offender I can remember was a Suzuki Bandit that went full noise all over the campground pretty much all day and seemed like all night as well!!! BTW that was at a Cold Kiwi...

OK... still meeting at the Bog after Thunder Ride... jeez how ARE we gonna identify each other? I have got a couple of cellys but it might be easier if we just ask the bar staff to point KBrs to a certain table...
As well as 'The Bog' there is also 'Breakers' and 'The Lone Star' so plenty of drinking holes :-)

damn the time just flies, heading off to picton at lunchtime, then its onwards and upwards to the big smoke. Catch those who are going at the rally, the others at the 'Bog' pub after the Thunder ride on saturday arvo. Thunder ride starts about 10am, guessing it will finish up about 12, so maybe from about 2pm at the pub?

Thank God that's over. Record setting turnover at AMPS. Non-stop shopaholics buying like there's no tomorrow.
We sold at least 8 Schuberths for God's sake.
I'm glad I wasn't there for the clean-up.

I spent sunday transfering stuff from my lockup in Huntly, crossing from one side of the river to the other half a dozen times. The lockup is next to SH1 and there was a constant stream of Harley's heading south.....but never saw one on the west side of the river. Those Harley boys just love SH1 don't they?
