View Full Version : South Island: Screw The "MAN" - South Island Escape

I think I'm about to become catatonic, so I'm taking a few weeks off in a month or two, to explore the South Island. There are lots of great ride reports hidden in the bilge of KB, which I'll scour before I go for ideas. (Ride reports from bikes, which I'll adapt to my car).

The reason I'm posting this is, does anyone who I know / semi-know / know by association or even know only from my active days on the KB forum & rides want to meet up for a drink as I'm passing through? I realise that now when I click new posts (that is, when I log on to KB every couple of months), I don't actually know anyone, and feel like a foreigner (more so than I literally am)...

Flick me a PM, and I'll make a point of swinging by. I know that life moves so much faster nowdays, and that Nov/Dec/Jan is over the holiday season so I realise that people are busy, etc... As I said, let me know.

Hopefully in Dec the snow will have become less frequent, as I like the snow and don't mind driving on it, but only when I specifically go looking for it!

Cheers,
Dave

PS: There are a couple of people I'm definitely getting in touch with, so you better change your numbers if you know who you are:wari:

Well good luck with that Dave, now, if you were to come north, the hospitality is 2nd to none, taking nothing away from the good folk of the mainland region, seems to be a few cool guys in North Otago that have said ''for us to drop in'' when next down there, so you should have places to stop without a doubt.... Cheers........Maha man...(Mark)

Absolutely, I agree 100% It's just that I've already done the whole North Island, and haven't been past Greymouth in the South Island.

Although, since I tried to fuse my bike with a bridge (+- 16 months ago), I haven't been past Masterton going up the North Island, so maybe another trip is due in a couple of years...

Coincide your trip with one of the nationals series dates, be able to catch heaps of kbers then. Invercargill on 6th/7th jan, timaru on 12th/13th and ruapuna on 19th/20th. Get to see some racing too.

Good onya Stonechucker...... good to see you are venturing out again.. albeit in a car... which is great. There are many in the deep south who I am sure would meet up for a drink or ten.... and offer you a bed to kip in.

Now after the south Island trip you have to head up North..... to Auckland etc... many on here would love to meet you.....

There are still many of the old crew still about..... who look forward to your posts... I know I do...

Let us know when you are getting down towards South Otago - are you travelling on your own or with a car load?
Check out the pictures on this page from the Pissed Penguin rally in Sept this year. The walk out to Nugget point lighthouse is one of the "must do's" as is spending some time around the Catlins area.http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=33794&page=3
Great to have a trip without too many time constraints. Hope we can meet when you're down and there's usually plenty of room here so keep in touch.
