I know it's a long shot but has anyone got one? I've looked through the "lotsa manuals" thread and searched all over the web but no luck. Has anyone got one they want to sell or in .pdf form? I'm guessing I'll need one sooner rather than later as the old girl's done over 100,000 km's but I just picked her up for $600 and she's running alright at the moment!

go to the library - they should have them in the reference section. you could always (shock horror) order one from supercheap or similar (just a haynes one)

Not sure what that site has to do with my search for a shop manual but thanks anyway. The library's got one but It would be good to have my own copy and I think it's out of print with Haynes. I'm sure I'll find one somewhere though.

Yeah, it's out of print... I've been looking for one myself. I went to the library, and had a squiz at the Haynes copy they brought up from the vault for me. It was nice and everything but not terribly useful as obviously my bike is parked outside the library, and all my tools are at home. Not being a member I couldn't photocopy anything (and to photocopy everything you think you might need would take a couple of days).

If anybody sees one on the internet, or in some bookstore that I can order from, I'd love to know -- as would badmofo I'm sure.

Badmofo, if I get hold of a copy, I'll make a copy for you! But you gotta promise to do the same for me ;).

Hi there peeps,

Just got a 250RS as a winter bike/project.

I have the Haynes manual, it is 164 pages.

I will attempt to scan it all in the next couple of weeks for general consumption. Meanwhile, if anyone is desperate for any particular info/pics, etc. from it let me know.

Lol good timing! I just bought one on eBay from the UK, due to my latest problem which is a cracked cylinder head. I'm still yet to receive it, I wonder how long shipping usually takes from UK.

I am searching for an exhaust system, other than that my one seems fine, bar a few hours with an oily rag and some new oil.

Yeah it arrived this morning, sweet! Yeah it's just the cylinder head (well mainly. There's a few other more minor problems).

Are you looking for an original exhaust/silencer system? Or are you going with some antisocial 2-into-1-frighten-small-dogs system? I have entertained notions of swapping out the exhaust for something which sounds a bit nicer, but I like the look of the classic twin chrome exhausts. If you fit something non-standard you should post some photos!

I just called a dude at custom chambers in tamaki, he reckons $350 for a black 2 into 1 exhaust custom made. It's not gonna look as nice as the (not so) shiny chrome twin exhausts i've got at the moment but he reckons an extra $200 for chrome and that's still the 2 into 1, I didn't even ask him how much for twin mufflers. I've got more holes than I've got metal in my right muffler so I guess it needs to be done. Are your guys bikes loud? I get dogs chasing me and little kids plugging their ears as I drive past, hopefully it'll sound better with a new exhaust.

I've got a manual coming up in the post from chch, I was gonna scan it but it seems as though we've all solved our manual-less problems. Good look with the head xerxesdaphat, I've just been reading your other post, congrats on getting it apart and back together and not having any bits left over.

LOL no mine is super quiet, actually -- and that's with a cracked cylinder head! Hahah. Yeah I can barely hear the engine in my helmet, and as the engine is quite smooth I often need to look at the tachometer to check how I'm doing when I'm riding around town. Wind noise is mostly far louder at >=60kph, until the bike gets above 5 grand. It got even quieter when I pulled the cylinder head off, because the exhaust gaskets were pretty rooted so those were replaced with rather nice new ones I cut with scissors from some gasket paper my uncle had. Not exactly the most perfectly round gaskets you've ever seen but they do the trick!

Are you sure you can't get some new mufflers/exhaust from a wreckers? There are quite a few places which are wrecking CB250RSs, as I've found in my search for a cylinder head. Try http://www.bucketsnbits.co.nz/ , I know they've got a CB250RS. I imagine freight would be pretty frightening from Wellington though, but you might be able to get it cheaper and at least they'll be original.

Good to hear you found a manual. Is it Haynes, or an original Honda workshop manual? Or is it even the original owner's manual? Yes lol, at >100,000kms you'll probably need it... mine's an '84, but it's under 60,000kms, without wrapping around the counter (at least as far as I can tell from the VIR check readings).

I still haven't seen any other CB250RSs on the road... what colour is yours? They don't seem too common in Auckland.

Thanks for the heads up on the wreckers, I'll give them a call and see what they've got, the photo of the cb's got no exhaust on it though so I'm not holding out too much hope.

I haven't seen any other CBs either, you might see mine as I see you're at auckland uni too, mine's a kind of gold/greeny colour (she's in need of a paint job) and it's got dirty great air horns on the front. I should be studying but I'm having too much fun on the old girl, she sticks to the road like glue (well, compared to my old GN), might take her over to piha tomorrow if the weather's good.

yeah it's a Haynes manual, might come in handy as I think I need to adjust the valves but I don't really know what I'm doing. I can't believe how well she runs for the mileage though.

You're at UoA too?! Shit, where do you park? My delivery driver (a suicidal maniac Vietnamese boy on a scooter with playboy logo on front) mentioned he saw another RS around uni. Didn't believe him as he prefers scooters so must be full of shit.

That's massive amounts of mileage. You never know though, that might be a second-hand speedo which already had lots of kms on it. Then again I'm doing about 30+kms a day so I imagine you could rack up serious mileage if you were using it as a commuter (as I am).

Hope to meet you some time on a KB ride. Hope you can sort out that 'zorst, too.

Copy that on exhausts, I have seen plenty RS advertised in the breakers pages in the UK Bike Trader, well one or two!

Breakers won't usually guarantee an exhaust except for looking good, and I am too far from them to check out the gear, though I am regalarly in London so can get one then. My bike has the usual after market motad 2 into 1 on it, and I think it is just the front pipes that are shot, seems it has had a new muffler at some point.

I will check it out, got the bike from its one owner who is a life long friend, so I know the mileage is 25 thousand, and the bike has had an easy life generally. Saying that, he moved a couple of years ago and no longer had a garage so she has sat outside and he never covered it, and hardly used it. There is a lot of superfacial rust so I am going to do a complete strip down and powder coat the frame once spring arrives.

Good luck with the head job. Sounds like your bike is a lot quieter than mine, wait to see when I get the new exhaust on.

I will get to that manual asap, someone will need it sometime.

I park on Symonds street outside the chemistry building, I might be there tomorrow studying but I might go for a ride instead. I need an exhaust bad, it's ear destroyingly loud at the moment, and that's with earplugs in. What colour's yours? you'll laugh pretty hard if you see mine, most people do but I love it, so much fun to ride and only cost me $600 so I don't really give a shit what it looks like. Now if I could just get rid of the annoying ticking noise.................

Mine's silver, with rear fibreglass damage due to a lowside on a KB 250 ride, 3 days after I'd learned to ride hahaha. I'll be there tomorrow too actually, need to see girlfriend before she expires from worry. Will keep an eye out for your bike. I normally park up under the trees in that little connecting street between Princes St and Symonds St. I paid $1650 for mine (and $100 for the guy to deliver it to me from Tauranga), which in hindsight was probably a little bit much, but he bought it from a dealer and having overpaid for it himself expected somebody else to overpay for it in return.

They go for quite cheap in the UK, don't they, Highlandflyer? They seem to be super-common there. I've heard of those motad 2-into-1 pipes before in some article I read about the bike on the net. I'll keep it in mind if my pipes get any worse (they're in reasonable nick but I put a couple of dents into the RHS one with the lowside, and they're fairly corroded around the top).

Annoying ticking noise? What's that all about? Hmm... hope you haven't done a top end as well...

Hopefully it's just the valves or something. I guess I'll open her up and take a look when I get my manual. I don't know wether to just not worry about it and hope it gets me through to my full licence (6 months), after all it was cheap, or put some time into it and try and get her sounding and looking better and keep her a bit longer. She's not too economical though I only get 200km's out of a full tank, how about you?

Hahahaha. And super loud too. I bet you turn heads lol. That's fantastic haha.

I tend to fill her up at about 200-250kms, I don't like hitting reserve because that means I have to start the bike up again (which means about 20 minutes of screaming and yelling at the bike because the engine is hot and she's just impossible), ride it to the gas station, then repeat. I estimate I'd probably get about 270kms+ with a full tank, right to the brim. I got 245kms once when it hit reserve, and I couldn't get it started so I pushed it 100metres to the gas station. However, I still had another 2 litres reserve, and the tank wasn't completely full by a long stretch when I'd filled it up last.

If yours is making funny noises and using lots of fuel then in my inexpert opinion there's probably something off with the engine. But if it's only for 6 months, you might be able to get through it. These engines are bulletproof... I rode mine 20kms with an exhaust valve jammed open, at carriageway speeds, and have knowingly done about 150kms on it with a cracked cylinder head (and probably hundreds of kms before I knew about it).

yeah that sounds more like the mileage I should be getting, the motor doesnt sound too bad though, just a bit rattley. The exhaust's the main problem at the moment, the right muffler isn't even attached to the header pipe anymore hence the reason it's so loud. There's this bloody little dog on my street that keeps running out in front of me and barking, I nearly killed him yesterday so I went and had a chat to the owner, hopefully now she'll keep him restrained. I'm gonna put the boot in if it happens again, what the fuck goes through their tiny brains to make them think they can take on a motorbike, or a car with a trailer for that matter.

How come you have to restart once you hit reserve? don't you just flick it over while you're riding? I ran out of petrol on the north western port off ramp the other day, I was racing in to hand in my last assignment and forgot I was already on reserve, doh! I had 3 minutes to get it in on time so I was cursing pretty loudly inside my helmet, but I tipped her over a bit and then she started up first kick and got me to uni on time so I gave her a big hug and promised her I'd fill up as soon as I hit reserve from now on.

I have to restart before it hits reserve because inevitably it happens while I'm idling at the lights, and it happens suddenly before I have a chance to flick the tap. Hahah, lucky you still had a bit sloshing around! I just tend to fill up sooner rather than later -- with a bike as reluctant as mine is to actually get running, it's easier. Plus it's not like it's costs you anything to fill up more frequently. On a bike it takes all of 20 seconds to get a full tank lol.

DO NOT kick the dog, whatever you do!!! I can't remember who posted about it, but somebody wrote how they went to kick a possum or bird or something (something a hell of a lot lighter than a dog) at 50kph and ended up crashing or breaking their ankle or something. Can't remember exact details, but at even slow speeds basic physics will show you that trying to accelerate small animals in a small space of time is going to put rather large forces on your leg. Don't be tempted lol! Slow right down to walking speed and give it a kick if you like, but I wouldn't do it any faster than that lol.

On that note, do you remember reading in the road code the bizarre advice they gave about dogs? Is that legit? It was very strange...

yeah it works, slow down and then gun it at the last minute, always makes me laugh thinking about that thing in the road code when that dog runs out at me, it's the best piece of advice in the thing. It only works if you can see em coming though, luckily I'm loud and he lines me up and starts running when I'm about 50 metres down the road, stupid dog. I think the owner must have listened to me he was restrained today, I just heard his incessant barking as I rode past.

I'm loving the RS, went for a ride to Muriwai today. I'll have to go on a 250 ride one of these days have you been on any rides with the guys from here?

Hahaha so that advice does actually work? How bizarre!

Yeah, I went on a 250 ride held by Maverick about 3 days after I got my Learners. Not the brightest thing I did because although I got down there OK, on my way back to Auckland I chickened out on leaning the bike over any further (had miles of lean angle left!) and ran wide, went off the road, hit gravel and went face-first off the bike. Wasn't wearing any gloves and had cheap non-biking jacket on (genius!) so ended up with pretty cut hands and chewed a chunk out of my bottom lip. Have healed up almost completely.

If you're going to crash though, I'd recommend a 250 ride :lol:! The guys there were great, picked me up, checked that I was all in one piece, helped pick up the pieces of my bike strewn throughout the corner. GIJoe escorted me (cutting short his ride!) all the way back to his house and spent a long time checking over my bike and fixing it up, and gave me some first aid help. He also lent me some gloves and wing mirrors until I acquire some new ones (which I still haven't lol. I like his wing mirrors though, I wonder if he'll let me buy them? :lol:).

Great bunch of people. Go on a ride, you'll learn heaps! And don't worry about crashing, they ride slow, it was only myself panicking and being too afraid to lean the bike which got me into the shit. They're doing a ride on Guy Fawkes, you should go.
