Well the weekend here in Wellington has been a complete wind and washout. So stuck my nose in a book and looked over some useful reiminders about road safety.

I rode to my comp this morning cuz my gear was already there and my mate had my car... then rd home the long way afterwards, got in just before it started to rain.
What did I practice??... Looking where I want to go not where im going... if that makes sense (had I learnt that sooner, im certain my first bin would not have happened!)... instructor dude yesterday (took my best friend to get her handling cert-she passed) and he was showing her stuff n so I opened my ears too n then he gave some tips n so practiced that  best thing I couldve heard/learnt I reckon, much better riding by taking that one lil thing n putting it into practice, easier to lean bike in the corners n feels heaps better at speed. :2thumbsup
gonna do a course to reduce restricted time by 6 months n learn more :D:D
cant wait!

It was also quite windy up here.
We went through the Waipoua Forest (24kms of twisties :wari: ) and got to the southern end of the Hokianga, as per photos.
Practiced:
Fighting the wind on exposed ridgelines.
Passing German tourists on hire BMWs in the forest.
Directing same German tourists that the next gasser was about 70kms ahead. They had passed one about 10kms back.
A philosophical debate about the ridiculousness and inappropriate double yellow lines on our fair highways. Ixion, where are you??

Had friends over for breakfast, and then rested my hip in the bath with a book.
Watched Top Gear. The Caravan Trip (capitalised for a reason) was some of the funniest TV ever, especially towing home the charred remains.

Not much riding today, went over to North Shore to buy oil for the bikes service change - did that and then did a quick pootle to Pukekohe to make sure everything was tickety-boo. Went to Borders and purchased the excellent "How to Maintain your Motorcycle Yourself" book (50% discount voucher meant $71 = $35.50 )
On Friday I did some figure 8 practice at Maraetai in the parking lot there. Once I did those, I practiced doing in-outs on the parking lot lines until I finished every one of them! Then did some emergency braking at varying speeds (scary at higher speeds!)

Having had my bike in the shop for a week, I had to go for a ride despite the wind. Did the Wellington coast anticlockwise (down through Brooklyn and round from Owhiro Bay to Oriental Bay) with a couple of minor deviations.
The wind either wasn't as bad as I was expecting, or I'm getting better at dealing with it. The problem was following cars - there were several times I felt that I needed to apply power and accelerate for better stability, but there was a car right there, so I couldn't. Should have been hanging back further I suppose.

I polished my bike, cleaned and oiled my chain, checked my tyres, cleaned my discs, repainted my centrestand, and polished my bike. Then I polished my bike.
Watched Wellington beat Auckland.

Went camping up north, was windy but warm on sat and just windy on sunday. That was ok, just drank more beer. The Fishing was pretty sad, but that might have something to do with all the beer.
So I guess I practiced drinking, can't complain really.

Gave the bike keys to the missus - told her I'd look after the children and got Maverick to keep an eye on her.
About an hour later she comes back with a bruise on her leg and a bent brake lever.
She practiced dropping the bike. Glad she's okay.

I was referring to the missus - the bike is just a collection of bits of metal/plastic and rubber.
Getting a decent bike is just a matter of spending money.
Geting a decent wife is a whole lot more difficult.
Keeping a decent wife....ahhh now there's an art form that defies description!
Shame Buckbuck never asked where we went on Saturday eh gijoe1313? That was good day's riding - really enjoyed myself. Thanks for turning up.

Went up SH1 to Porirua for a round of mini-golf having not really checked the weather properly. Was getting shifted a metre in my lane at times! Developed a mysterious miss-fire or similar on the way back, so went to work checking the plugs, only for the sun to come out and the wind to stop. Cleaned the plugs, engine still didn't sound right but then my brother turned up nagging to go for a ride so went over to the Makara Cemetery and back for shits and giggles. Awesome road.

Always good to get out there eh? Well no worries on the decent wifey score, if'n my mum had her way I'd be married already sight unseen! :gob: Good thing I'm asian and played the "do due diligence" card on her!
That is, are the stars in correct alignment and are our chinese star signs auspicious and was there a celestial comet that heralded the Emperor's blessing where a golden phoenix was in the house of riches...yadda yadda yadda! Phew...that'll hold her for a few more...months?
Getting a wife ain't the problem, keeping my sanity is...and thats where the bike comes in...any good asian girl wouldn't be interested in a hoon that rides two wheels. Any asian girl that is interested in a hoon that rides two wheels wouldn't be approved of!
Yeah, gee-up for the ride - was great 'cept for that concrete mixer on the Goat track twisties. The conversation I had with the dear old thing at Kaiaua was a hoot, if'n I had my full I woulda taken her for a pillion ride, turns out she had a boyfriend in the days gone back when she would throw her leg over the back (she had a glint in her eye which :Pokey: told me that she had some wikkid wiles in her youth!) and go for a blat sans helmet sans riding protection!
Jes' goes to show how serendipitous is the ol'riding lifestyle...and that TL...VRROOOOM VRRROOOOOOOM!! Ahhh...if my Hornet didn't turn up, I would be in the V-twin brigade as well! Ride with ya anytime McJim, anywhere, with anyone and anyhow!
Now, where is Loch Lomond?

Now, where is Loch Lomond?
You're on JJ - before the clay covers us I shall take you to Loch Lomond and we shall ride the Trossachs (many many many twisties) - so long as you're prepared to wait a couple of years or so.

Sigh,
I haven’t ridden since Thursday, and even then it was only to pick the bike up after it’s first service. :(
Oh well, there’s a long weekend coming up and I have the Friday off work as well, so all going well I’ll get a bit of riding in soon :D
