Hey, congrats on the bike  . I've basically just started riding... did my first biggish trip yesterday. I found my right wrist was a bit sore, other then that every thing else was pretty good. A soak at the local thermal pools was great after wards though:cool:

Sorry I can't help you out much there,

Jaz

Yea it starts of sore but gets better each ride :2thumbsup also you could try adjusting your clutch angle and tension to suit you better if it continues to hurt.

Enjoy it, and keep cool!

cheers guys.i have found out from someone that holding your knees into the side of the tank will take some of the pressure of your arms

Mole_C
16th October 2006, 20:37
Also someone kept saying to hold yourself up with your torso, not your arms. Good advice aswel  takes pressure of your arms and hands and leaves them free for some good fist shaking :tugger:

Hello dreamR,

To some extend, those soreness will lessen once you are used to it - for me at least.

Enjoy your new bike and take it easy (for a start).

I could see myself getting sore very quickly trying to fit on Duck's bike! (mores the pity...)

I get sore hands/wrists, bit of lower back fatigue... grip the tank with your knees hard and it'll relieve alot of the strain.

Awesome choice of bike. My old MC22 was an excellent bike that I dearfully miss. However it was a bit expensive. I did get pains if I road for an hour or longer, but I enjoyed myself enough on it not to care.

By the way, don't get ahead of yourself as you're learning. My CBR was very confidence inspiring, and I went a bit trigger happy on the throttle and crashed. It didn't retain much of it's resale value :pinch:

congrats on the new bike! everyone gets sore when they start doing something new, its only natural. gradually you will get fitter at riding and you wont notice at all, except when you've been on for a long journey etc.
stay safe and have fun!

You use muscles different when riding so they will hurt. The more you use them, ie ride, they will get used to it and you will be able to ride longer and further without pain.

great first bike bro:Punk:
your body will adapt to riding the bike and musle soreness will disapear. As stated, us your torso by keeping your abs tight all the time, that will take the pressure off your arms and wrists.
play safe.

thanks for all the advice guys.
another thing ive noticed is that when my foot is under the gear lever,as oposed to over it,my knee sits higher up the tank and hits the bump.ie too high.doesnt happen when foot is above the selector.
would it be a good idea to adjust the lever to ahigher level?

Yeah congrats on the new bike, wouldve got one myself if i was 6'' shorter (they are 3/4 size bikes)

There a mint one (i mean mint mint, ie. perfect in everyway mint) one in red baron, think theyve only just got it in, would be a good buy for someone if it isnt their usual $7k...

The sore wrists isnt just a sportbike thing, and its only when you first start riding (although some bikes due to riding position etc you may get a sore back or neck and cramp in the legs)

dreamR
18th October 2006, 18:21
yeah i am going to take off those stickers when time permits.and cut and polish it or something like that

So any clues on the price you paid? I'll be selling up both my CBR250RR's within the next month... one that I've raced (and won on) and one that I've just used on the road for a few thousand k's.

got any parts for sale? or tips on makn them faster?

dreamR
19th October 2006, 17:53
i paid $4900.
i know thats quite a lot , but for me it was a good deal as its from a dealer with a warranty etc.which makes me feel more comfortable about buying a 16 year old bike as i dont know much about them!

FiBee
19th October 2006, 18:04
This was my first sport bike - i still twist my neck from drooling when one goes past, so how's that for knowing you've got a stylie bike! I've upgraded to the 400 version now, but don't bother - not much difference between them, and the plastics aren't as hot!
Anyways, you'll build up strength in wrists/neck/torso etc as you ride more and more and find comfy riding positions (I find toes on pegs are more comfy than flat footed if that helps?)
Have fun!

Grantasaurus
19th October 2006, 19:31
$4900 ain't too bad for a CBR from a dealer.. Depends on the K's its done I guess.

The sore wrists and back do go eventually. Try just fiddling about in the seat, I find moving back a bit on mine makes me brace a bit more on the pegs and takes a bit of weight off my arms.

Yeah, I've actually got a third CBR in bits that HDTBoy had modified to go faster, but don't bother the best modification you can do is put on a set of either GPR70's or BT090's and improve your skills... that is the biggest modification to a bike... you.

I raced with standard everything, the suspension is soft as hell, but that's the way I like it, because I'm so used to the bike like that.

Yeah $4900 these days for a CBR250RR is a steal. I paid $5g nearly 3 years ago for my one, but they've gone up heaps since then... I should be able to sell both for $5g, as they've both got about 30,000k's on them... depends if I can get my favourite (raced) one running smooth again.

GPR70 and GPR100 are Dunlop tires. These can be purchased from a tire store. Cycletreads is a good one on the Shore.

Well for starters - the cbr is so damn small, its tiny..

The bandit shares the engine with the GSXR - suzuki's equivalent of the CBR, so not heaps of difference in power.

Bah get a proper bike (that is, a naked one), and you don't get sore arms, the wind holds your body up for you. I don't seem to get the problem that people have with clutch levers, I have only rode a few bikes, and only one for any length of time, but on all of them the clutch lever seemed easy enough to pull to not cause any wrist problems. Do the CBR250RRs have a very heavy clutch?

G'day all!! Just bought a 91 CBR250RR the other day. I have been reading thru u guys posts and you seem to be very knowledgeable. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on a couple of questions?

Firstly when I have the handlebars at full lock either left or right, I can barely fit my hand in the gap between the bars (throttle) and the fuel tank. Is this normal for this model or can I adjust? It is hard to steer really tightly.

Secondly, It seems to take a few goes to try and start first time then its fine. Is there a trick to getting them to go straight away, should I use choke? pump throttle a few times.

Thanks for your time!

Firstly when I have the handlebars at full lock either left or right, I can barely fit my hand in the gap between the bars (throttle) and the fuel tank. Is this normal for this model or can I adjust? It is hard to steer really tightly.Gee! You are lucky to be able to fit your hands. Some bikes hand grips come right up to the bike and crush your thumbs. Seriously. Sounds pretty normal though. You can loosen the 'clip on' hand grips and twist them out a bit. But be careful to only do it a little and correctly tighten the 'clip ons' after you have done it. Also once you have done it, check all cables move freely. Start the bike and twist the bars to full lock both sides and make sure that it does not make the bike rev up by pulling on the throttle cables. You would NOT LIKE THAT TO HAPPEN.
Secondly, It seems to take a few goes to try and start first time then its fine. Is there a trick to getting them to go straight away, should I use choke? pump throttle a few times. If it is like both Hondas I have had, what they like is this:
Full choke
Start bike
Blip throttle once.
Once the engine is warmish, the engine will start to race, push the choke all the way in.
Ride away.

You'll learn your own technique for starting it, but that is a good place to start.

Also, consider cleaning the carbs and replacing the airfilter. That often does wonders for general engine behavior.

Personally, I am scared of 'carb cleaner' stuff you chuck in the petrol tank. If it de-gunks that carbs, where does the gunk go? Getting a bike shop to do it will cost a fair amount of money, all in the labour...

he is so right, best bet to get the bike running really nice on startup all comes down too the carbs being cleaned and having a clean airfilter. currantly im having my carbs cleaned by the garage cause it was starting shittily. but when i got the bike back it started like a dream first time everytime, no choke needed either.

as for those handlebars its very normal, they have a tight lock its just the nature of the beast. post up some pics of your bike dude.
