Jut had an Epiphany (http://tinyurl.com/hx9r4), as you do at 2:30 am when trying to get to sleep

Why not move the lounge to the spare bedroom upstairs, (don't have any furniture in the new house anyway, and it'd be cheaper cause I wont have to buy as much).

http://farr.net.nz/liam/Epiphany/Upstairs.jpg

And rather than re-carpeting downstairs, tile all of it or lay industrial carpet, and use it as a bike garage / bar / bachelor pad with some cheap couches :Punk:

Simply add a small ramp to the back door and ride the bike up and through :shifty:

http://farr.net.nz/liam/Epiphany/Downstairs.jpg

Then I'd have some space for tools, good lighting, and a very biker style house

Fuck I own the place, its not like I have a landlord to worry about (just the body corp :bleh:), and if I don’t like it / want to sell, just get the old carpet put back down, no harm done :innocent:

Now is that a fucking cool idea or what :D

(Wonder what the neighbours’ ‘ll say....... they’ll prolly never know )

My only reservation with tiles is that they’re a cunt to lift later..... unless you could keep them in mint condition (unlikely) and simply put a few rugs in when I go to sell the place. Tiles would create a nice indoor / outdoor flow through the French doors and onto the deck too.

Hmm, I could, but I do have to keep the house looking reasonably respectable. Don't want to give mum & dad a heart attack when they visit, so there has to be some rational (non 3am) thinking put into the project. Needs to be neat & tidy, look nice, and functional.

For a garage, more than respectable, for what is supposed to be a kitchen / dining area / lounge in a reasonably upmarket and new’ish townhouse, sorry it just dosen't cut the mustard.

I think investigating some form of underlay (perhaps thin plywood) that can be tacked to the floor and then tiled over would be the go. That way the wood panels can be lifted with a crow bar / spade etc in sections, and can be thrown out with the tiles still attached and the carpet simply re-layed.

I've got carpet down in my garage, great for working on bikes. Although, a good bike lift would be better :)
