View Full Version : So WE are now paying back the money the Govt stole from us??

If I heard correctly today Labour are giving their MP's a payrise to help ease the burden of paying back the money that was overspent. So if I'm not mistaken, we pay their salaries (fair enough) but to give themselves more for no reason other than to pay back the overspent money just reeks of, well I don't need to say.
This is just unbelievable (hmm, maybe not so much). For the first time in my life I thought to myself today it's time to start considering how much I really want to stay in this country. Sure the grass isn't always greener, but to be lining these corrupt cunts pockets makes me sick.
Time for an overthrow?

Its called corruption
And they are in late tonight passing a law to make the fact that they stole a million of OUR dollars legal to avoid paying it back!
Fuckin thieves!

I'm not one who normally gets upset with this government, but this time they've gone too far. I'm very cross.
I don't think I'll be voting for Labour next election.

No the MPS are taking a 5% pay cut.

So they get the payrise this year to pay for corrupt practices, and pocket the extra next year.
I've been trying to view it as just politics, but I'm starting to develop a rather poor opinion of its members. They know they are ripping off the taxpayer and continue to do it willingly. Laubour ministers, you are thieving scum, no wonder you give benefits and easier sentences to your type in society.

No the MPS are taking a 5% pay cut.
No they are allocating 5% of their current pay to help fund the .85 million dollars Labour owes, this will raise roughly a 1/3 of that value. But they are also giving themselves a pay rise, to go with helen's one lats year of 9.6% and the backbenchers of 4%, and that will be backdated till the 1st of july.
Yip that 5% pay cut is really going to effect them, hell just get some more refuges to pay you to sneak them in .....

That's a change from the Stuff article I saw earlier.
I'm not voting for anyone currently sitting in the house during this term.
Time for a clean out.

So if I'm not mistaken, we pay their salaries (fair enough)
Fair enough? A back bench MP with no additional responsibilities has a basic pay of $118k. MP's also get an allowance for running an out-of-Parliament office, $55k/year if you're a constituency MP, $34k if you're on list. Just what a list MP is doing out of parliament for $34k a year is a mystery to me. I guess you could drink that much, but you'd have to work at it.
Helen Clarke is on $347k. Cullen, a shade under a quarter mill. Even Winston Fucking Peters is on $183k ... plus, of course, the baubles of office.
http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2005/12/mp_pay_increases.html
Fair enough? Doesn't sound fair enough to me. The wankers should be on national average wage and not one penny more. Their partners should have to go to work so they can afford the mortgage. They should have to worry about their credit card bill from time to time. Or getting the car WOF'd. Or how much it's going to cost to fill the car. Or park it. Why. WHY do we pay them so much? I don't care that this represents what they might get with similar age/experience at (say) Telescum - perhaps we should have our MP's on a near subsitence survival so at least we know they're doing it for the right reasons.

Ok ok, calm down. I wasn't agreeing with what they get paid, nor their regular high payrises, you read too much into my statement.

vote Dover for parliament.
you'll then get value for your 118k bucks a year.
and I GUARANTEE you I will drink the 34k for whatever the hell it is.
easy peasy.

An MP's wage should be the same as the "average" kiwi wage. Encourage the bastards to improve and develop this shithole.
I wonder if we can hire the Russians to use "sleeping gas" (Russian theatre seige) on parliament...
Just a shame about the side effects... not!

Well, whatever happened to the term "public servants"????
It was changed, sometime back to Public Parasite.
They contribute nothing to the economy, ride on the backs of the average hard worker like blood sucking leeches and tell us what to do, how do live and try and pass laws dictating what brand of bog paper we are allowed to use.
I can't for the life of me understand how they went from an average adult wage $38k ish to the massive amounts they now earn for doing squit. Apart from the exorbitant payouts to themselves we have to support 120 of these dirtbags and all the hangers on who leech of them as well.
Rant over (sort of) I better go for a quick ride to de stress before bedtime.

Bloody Labour - they fuck up and get caught so they 'promise' to pay back the money then whammo, let's change the law instead so we don't have to! I hope it hurts them in the polls and they get creamed next election.

I wish it would hurt them in the polls too Beemer. Problem is motorcyclists tend to be, as a whole, a group of clever people. Most Kiwis seriously don't give a fuck and just vote the way Mum & Dad did and never bother to take an interest in what Politicians are spending our money on. That's why MMP hasn't worked that well. It required some thought and understanding to be a workable system.
It's the little things that worry me. Like legislating to put folate in bread because the "health" system isn't up to educating potential Mothers about the importance of a balanced diet. There's 20-30 kids born with neural tube defects born in NZ every year. So instead of education, we'll add a compulsory dietary supplement to a food staple because the Health system isn;t funded well enough to either educate women about Folic acid or deal with the repurcussions of a disabled child.
It's Michael Cullen trying to hide our horrendous balance of payments behind an 11.5 Billion dollar surplus - "Balance of Payments is the worst it's been in NZ since 1945. But look over there! A big pile of cash! Aren't I clever?"
It's Social Services like SES justifying their own existence by labelling kids as disturbed in some fundamental way, and attaching that label permanently so other social services get to justify their existence as the "learning impaired" little darling grows up. Fuck we used to sort that stuff out for ourselves. You got beaten up , robbed, teased, and humiliated until you figured out how it worked. There were always one or two, like "Fat Kid", or "Gingernut", that never got it, but that sounds like a more normal stat for weirdos in a social group to me. 1 or 2 %. Not whole fucking classrooms.
Winja's right. If this was an Eastern European country we would already have taken to the streets.

Of sorts - yes. Collectivley "they" voted for an urgent bill to get Labour off the hook etc... it's hard to vote against "them"
It's a lot easier to vote against "Michael Cullen", or "Helen Clark" etc. I only have one MP for my electorate, and I want to know if they're morally capable.

Thing thats shits me is that all other legislation gets pushed to the back seat while these fuckers push the payback legislation under urgency. This means that I'm stuck for another couple of months with a $600k+ mortgage while waiting for the WHRS legislation to come into effect so I can stiff the council for a quarter mill.
Screw them....hippies

This just in (a relly of mine works in Parliament... oh gee damn)
The Bill you're talking about is the Appropriation (Parliamentary
Expenditure Validation) Bill. It's currently (as in right this very
minute) receiving its first reading, it then needs to go to select
committee (though I think this step can be skipped - not exactly sure),
then to a second reading, then to a third reading, and is then voted on.
Parliament is under urgency for the reading of the Bill though I think
these stages are expected to be completed in the next day or 2.
The place to read the debates, votes, etc is Hansard which is a record
of parliamentary business. Go to
http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/PB/Debates/Debates/3/6/3/36308db1950e415ba419823ea216152b.htm (http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/PB/Debates/Debates/3/6/3/36308db1950e415ba419823ea216152b.htm)
and you'll see there are links to records of debates in the House -
they're not in real time though, and the most recent one is 12 October
but today's transcript will be there soon.
For a live audio stream of the debate, go to
http://www.radionz.co.nz/parliament. (http://www.radionz.co.nz/parliament)
www.parliament.nz (http://www.parliament.nz/) is well worth checking out, there is a tonne of good
info on there.
Edit - it's playing live right now... tis interesting!
