Hey, I'm just looking at this alarmed disk lock on tardme:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=73555354
and was just wondering what price they sell for in bike stores, or if they are any good, just some general info, it's $100 on there, which seems like a good deal, but I maybe wrong?

I've never considered those because I've read too many stories on here, and in mags, where somebody attempted to ride away without first removing the lock. Potentially very expensive....

that ones alarmed tho, so if you tried to move it at all you'd get a very loud reminder that it's still on the bike

For $2.95 you can get a brightly coloured "reminder" bungee that attaches to the throttle so you don't forget youve got a disk lock on.

I have an older model of xena alarmed disc lock which is great!!!

If I sit on the bike while forgetting to take it off it will go off without me even having the chance to start the bike which is brillient! No chance of riding off while forgetting about it. it's also very loud though mine is a bit too sensitive. (mine goes off after a couple of minutes of putting it on after a hard ride due to everything on the bike cooling down and causing it to move a little especially when I've been braking hard)

but mine is an older model mind you so I would expect this would be better. I think I got mine second hand for 50 or so but I've seen the model you're looking at at cyclethreads for about 130 I think. I recommend it!

Been there, done that.

Didn't do any damage or fall off, but I felt pretty silly.

ah yes but as the promotional crap for this one says, try not drawing attention to yourself when gas axing through a disk lock with a 110dB alarm blaring away

I have one of these, seems to work fine, and is pretty sensitive. It fitted the disc on the GSXR600 fine when cold, but was quite hard to fit if the disks were hot and the clearance between the disk and carrier reduced with thermal expansion, the bloody pin wouldn't budge.
It didn't fit the girlfreinds CBR 125 at all because of the size / hole pattern on the disk. might be worth having a measure up.

I don't reckon you'd ride off with one on as they'e pretty loud, enough to make you jump when it beeps to tell you it's armed and your head is only a couple of feet away. Just make sure you put it tight against either the forkleg, or the back of the caliper so you don't move at all before it would stop againt something. at least you'll be stationary when you try an fall over!!

so how does the alarm work? does it give you a warning beep if ya move it, then the proper full noise alarm if you move it again?

If the alarm is movement based I suspect it could be false triggered due to wind, this as I sit here and see a 40-50 knot Norwest gust roll through Christchurch.

On the other hand if it fits your bike, is what you want, and is in your price range then go for it, anything that reduces the risk of someone stealing your bike, and gives you piece of mind has to be good.
