View Full Version : Biker movies
Brando passing away got me thinking about this - there have been quite a few biking movies/films over the years, so what is your favourite?
I like a fairly obscure one called 'Streets of Fire' - admittedly the bikers are the bad guys in it (basic story, Female Singer plays a gig at the town she was born in and gets kidnapped by a rebel (what other kind?) biker gang. Sister of hero who used to date singer gets him to come back and rescue her- lots of action, acting cool and no smiling whatsoever!)
There is another one I can't recall the name, but it is based on a true story about an undercover cop who infiltrates an Angel's gang - end result was the head guys were put away for a very long time. Charlie Sheen played the lead role I think. The real cop was in the movie - but they couldn't give him a credit or show his real name as he is (or was) still on a hit list.
So what ones do you like? This is where I get worried as someone says 'Barb Wire' (remind me to tell you guys the time I looked out the window and saw a 20ft tall Pamela Anderson staring back at me... I'm not kidding)
SKy hada series of olde bikerr movies on rresently ...
DIDnt they little fella ... :yeah: ... <== didI menshion he's my yes man ?
Ialways forgot they werre on ...
ANd I can neverr rrememberr the name of movies ... :spudwhat:
I don't watch biker movies, even for B movies they are bad,but I saw The Wild One when the ban was lifted.Easy Rider is at the top of the list - saw it at 15 or 16,the rest is history. On Any Sunday had Steve McQueen in it,and he usualy got some riding or driving into his movies. There was a bike chase (Triumph) in one of Clint Eastwoods early movies, that was a good one,the bike going up and down steps. There were a couple of Evel Knevel movies, some good riding in them,Triumphs and Evel's Harley - they may have done bigger jumps, but they haven't used a bigger bike.

I'm ready for being flamed.....
Though the Cher movie I think "Mask" The movie where her son had that facial deformity, showed bikers as good guys.
Saw easy rider just recently it didn't have the same impact as when I was younger.
Peter Fonda was cool back then aslo in Easy rider
Remember Cannon ball run and those butterflys
Steve McQueen in The great eascape or dixie dynamite or Bullitt on the BSA
Electroglide in blue
Battle truck
Mad max movies
Tomb Raider
Every which way you can

Easy rider,Stone,On any sunday,Wild one.
On any suday is my favorite, the others are just a little better than most of the crap out there and I like them more for the time frames and the historical thing than for their acting or story lines.
I kind of liked "Any which way but loose" as well.
See this tattoo,It's a black widow!! :killingme :brick:

Quadraphenia is the word you seek. From The Who album of the same name. "That deaf dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball..." [Probably his way of compensating for the Tourettes Syndrome!]

Hells Angels on wheels
Hells Angels '69
Both 'Bikesploitation' flicks from the late '60's, to cash in on the notoriety of the Hells Angels. The first one starred Jack Nicolson. They used a lot of the real Angels as extras and they're supposed to be reasonably authentic period pieces (not seen 'em, but they're on the list).
If you like weird Japanese animation, I'd highly recommend Akira. There's some great bike sequences in it.
Probably best if we forgot 'Stone Cold' and 'Biker Boyz'.
Oh, and Vanilla Ice's one and only celluloid outing, where he's the leader of a bike gang (cos Ice, Ice baby is such a bad boy).
Which illustrates nicely the point that every time Hollywood has wanted to portray a character as 'a bad boy', the lazy, easy shorthand way to do it is stick the bloke in leather on some sort of two wheeled machine.

Nearly forgot:
Best bike action sequence in a recent film has to be the freeway chase in Matrix 2. Pity about the rest of the film....
Hitcher, I liked mask, too. So no flames from me.
Battle truck! I'd forgotten that one!
Wasn't that filmed in NZ?
Best "biker" thing I`ve seen recently was a BBC programme about bike gangs, all stereotypical crap but at least it showed Sonny Barger up for the wanker he really is,bloke`s brain dead.

I presume you are referring to my extreme good looks here? -- I find that I am often confused with the lead character from Mask...

Any man who looks like Cher has indeed got a problem
Predator 2`s just started on t.v.,5 minutes in and there`s a burning Harley laying on it`s side in the middle of the road,I hereby declare it the finest biking moment in any movie.

I never watched a good biker movie, but I have just finished watching "Me and Will (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0160518/)" on the Rialto Channel and I have to say it is worth watching.
Jane and Will meet at drug rehab after Jane OD'ed and Will crashed her motorcycle driving stoned. They hit it off immediately and escape the clinic to ride their bikes to Montana and find the bike from Easy Rider.

Hehe I wanna build Kaneda's bike. Anyway, only biking movies I've seen that were really worth it were Easy Riders and Beyond the Law. The only other ones were biker boys and torque and I deeply regret them.

Now Hitcher, I know you were younger when you posted this but isn't it Quadrophenia, and wasn't the deaf dumb and blind kid in Tommy?
For random short stuff...
www.bikepics.com -> movies
GhostRider :first: & Urban Streetbike Warriors :second: :niceone:
No ones mentioned "Silver Dream Racer?" with David Essex? Classic, was actually filmed at some of teh early GP's, keep an eye out for kiwis like John Woodley and Stu Avant in the background. Think the bike used was what Eric Buell started out with.

At the end on the month I shall have a look for the movies etc posted on here and see if they are on DC++, I have done it before (How I got ghost rider etc)but didn’t have much success.
.
.
There was an Australian film about speedway sidecar racers, from the late '70's probably? I think it might have been called "Sidecar Racers". Can't remember much about it.
Never saw "Silver Dream Racer" though remember there was much talk about it at the time. Must see if it's out on video.
Bob: yes, I do believe "Battletruck" was filmed in NZ.
Then there was "Girl on a Motorcycle" starring Marianne Faithfull. I've never seen it. I think it was made in the late 60's?

what about TORQUE, with our very own ex-shortie st martin henderson?
terrible movie - but KTM dukes!!
k
It's a doco, but "Quest for Victory" is good (the cubs love it so it gets a lot of play, chez Wolf)
It's about ELF's involvement in bike sports and has clips of everything from 70's GP to modern day, has Paris-Dakar, MX, sidecar MX, Trials etc. Quite a good all round look at bike events (though slanted towards ELF's machines) with lots of great spills, shots of the Paris-Dakar run etc.
(sigh)
I want to do the Paris-Dakar. I have no illusions about winning it - would be happy to complete it. Spend the next 16 years saving and practising - then stray, the cubs and I can all go in it.

has anyone managed to get hold of Ewan McGregor's/Charlie Boorman's "Long Way Round" on DVD.
Still to be found as a torrent download (http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?query=long+way+round&submit.x=21&submit.y=15).
in ascending order:
10. Biker Boyz (would be higher if not for cringeworthy name)
9. Girl On A Motorcycle (for pure nostalgia and Marianne Faithfull!!!)
8. Electra Glide In Blue (state of the art, way back then)
7. Quadrophenia (UK classic)
6. Silver Dream Racer (best full fairing movie racing bike ever)
5. Streets Of Fire (closest to chick flick on the list so watch with your lady)
4. Torque (forget plot and character development, watch the bikes!)
3. Knightriders (no, NOT Knight Rider!)
2. Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man (I have a V-rod, what d'you expect?
and the all time best:
1. On Any Sunday
Honorable mentions:
Stone (Aussie movie - "Get with Stone - take the trip!")
Mad Max 1 & 2 (not bike movies, but damn good movies with bikes)
Dishonorable mentions:
Deathsport
Stone Cold

Beyond the Law , Charlie Sheens best work . A ex cop goes undercover to infiltrate a biker gang . It was so realistic the FBI now use it in training their agents .
You have good taste Waylander . Bout time you see the light and come back to the legend , we (the forum) are waiting .

That movie was released here as Fixing the shadow and overseas as Beyond the law. Good film.

Little Fauss and Big Halsey. Robert Redford anf Michael J. Pollard (it is said this is his least favourite movie).
A review from the movie database: This was a great movie if you were a kid growing up around motorcycle racing. I was just 14 when this movie came out. I went to the theater to see it because I had heard it was about motorcycle racing. It was great! It captured the eccentric attitude of racers in general and was really very accurate as to the characters one could find in AMA racing. "On Any Sunday"! We would trailer our bikes all over the northeast to any race we could find. Enduros, motocross, flat-track, scrambles... whatever was going on, we'd go! Change tires, fenders, or what ever we needed to do to the bikes and take off. Great movie and great times! when you were involved with the racing scene, you got to know the other regulars that would show up at the various races and there were the personalities found in the movie. Every one knew a Halsey! Most of us were more Fauss, however. we were more interested in riding and tuning than partying and chasing skirts! This movie is one of the only movies I actually searched for and purchased just so I would have it as the years go by.
