I was just riding home about half an hour ago when a cop pulled me up.
I hadnt been doing anything wrong so i didnt know what he had stopped me for.
Turns out my tail light was out. But he said he would just give me a warning which was nice of him.
The only problem was i was on my learners and it was after 10. I also didnt have an L plate.
But since i already had 85 demerit points he said hed just let me go with another warning.
which was very nice of him.

Ive never been let off with a warning before and was incredibly grateful.
Moral of the story is: not all cops are dicks, and i'll be bothered to upgrade to my restricted sooner rather than later.

Good to hear. There are plenty of decent cops out there. Though I wouldn't really expect anyone other than Cuntstable Cunt to give more than a warning for a blown taillight bulb.

But I've had a lot of warnings, some for quite significant naughtiness , but only one ticket ($80) in the last 30+ years.

And go the licence upgrade. Just remember though that the curfew still applies on a restricted.

I'm in wonderment as to how one manages to accrue 85 demerits on a GN125!

Speeding in 30km/h construction zones or past school buses?

as those demerits are all for speeding it would have been quite the challenge for me to have got them all from the gn125. Ive only been biking since the begining of the year tho. those demerits are all from driving cages.

A good radar detector or new spectacles seems like a good idea:innocent:

Like the one who gave me a ticket on Hillsborough Rd for 71 in a 50 zone. Fair enough, I was speeding, at the bottom of a hill I had just rolled down.
He tried to be my mate about it, until I asked why he didn't pull up the car in front of me who was going the same speed.
At this point he gave me a stern look and said " we all have a job to do to keep people safe, including you".
So I asked him who's job it was to keep people safe from the rapists, murderers and P-freaks that were carrying out their crimes while he is busy capturing viscious criminals like myself. I thought that was a job for real policemen. He didn't want to pretend to be my friend anymore after that.
Anyway, I left with my $170 ticket (which puts me at 110 demerits) and rode away quite happy about the fact I didn't also have a ticket for not having my licence on me.

That is what I call a 'high-risk' strategy. I have seen other cops decide that now is a good time for a vehicle inspection and 'lets see what we can find wrong here' tour.

Ixion, you are such a big teddy bear and such a charmer that I am surprised you even have one ticket!

I've been really lucky with the cops in Welly. Ive been pulled over 3 times for speeding, all 3 times I was on my Learners Licence without an L plate as well and I have never been ticketed. Each time I was pulled over I was expecting to be given a ticket and never tried to get out of one either. I was also lucky to only be given a warning for Dangerous Driving when I wrote my first bike off. Though it should have been Careless, but hey sometimes it just aint worth stirring them up!

To quote Billy Connelly - "Many's the man the broke his nose with his mouth".

Your checklist
1) Brain on, and in gear
2) Open mouth, speak

I'd take that a step further, most aren't... most are damned good people. If you thjink about it, the most likely reason you've been pulled over is because you appear to be doing something wrong.

I wonder how many times you didn't get pulled over becuase you were let off.

Hey dude! your Good attitude sure helped you!!!
genuine concern that you were invisible from behind was the reason for stop!
(I recommend something other than black clothing ....just in case you blow a bulb at night)
Shit I hope I havent used up my QUOTA of warnings!!!

Like those good cop fullas who didn't mind me lane splitting past them on the motorway tuesday evening. I may "technically" have been in the right but they could equally have decided to be arses. Thanks chaps.

Tip - if you see 2 or more bikes behaving themselves in sloooow traffic ahead they probably are scared of splitting past the cops.....

Like I said in my post, "fair enough, I was speeding".
What I took offence to was him pretending it was in everyone's interest for him to be hiding at the bottom of a hill, halfway around a blind corner, dishing out tickets to people who have not quite braked enough after coming down a hill. If he moved another 50metres on over the brow of the next hill, I doubt he would have picked anybody up, because like me they would have coasted back to 50 up the rise before they got to him.
Very opportunistic on his part for gathering revenue and fulfilling his job requirements as such. Given the lack of crosses on the 200metres of road where I was exceeding the limit, I doubt anybody has ever died there. So its not like he is policing a known black spot, or keeping the road toll down in anyway.
Its not like I was coming around the corner at 71 and giving it some stick.
I was coasting down a hill, obviously applying the brakes a bit gently. My error.
But just in case I get lucky, before I pay the fine, I will insist on seeing a copy of the certificate of accuracy of the microwave radar, and also the officers certificate of competency on that piece of equipment.
If I get lucky and can save my ass on a technicality it means $170 and my licence remain in my possession.
