I am the manager of Parakai Airfield (5mins from Woodhill Motocross Park turnoff) and we are looking for ways to boost our AVGAS sales so we can get a permanent installation. So I am writing to various clubs and organisations to see if there is any interest in either:

- Coming here to buy fuel, 20L minimum.

- Me bringing our 1200 litre fuel trailer to an event or gathering of your club members. This would be dependant on selling a certain quantity.

Current price is $1.99 per litre.

This AVGAS is the same stuff we use in our aircraft. Not the expired AVGAS that gas stations sell as "Race Fuel"

Sorry I forgot to mention -

AVGAS is not for street use and therefore I am only permitted to put in non-street registered vehicles or fuel containers.


If you're unsure your bike will suit it, I suggest asking your bike mechanic.
Generally 2 strokes love it, but 4 strokes need tuning.

most bikes will run on avgas with out much hassles, two strokes do like avgas but i would reccomend mixing it 50/50 with normal 96

Where has this myth come from ??? When I was in NZ I repeatedly hear this one

Cr s ( cant speak for the others ) are designed for 91 unleaded the same stuff that is avail in any local garage

Would love to see some evidence,,,

( May be in the older 2 strokes where the sqush/gas speeds were designed for older fuels ,,,but not nowadays )

barring fouling the plugs, back in the day i used to run my Honda Integra on avgas... advanced the timing slightly... much more torque and ran slightly cooler also.

ive had 4 CR's since 1995-now and have run on 91, 96 & avgas and ive noticed no difference between any of them except the price

have u taken the engine apart when using the differant fuel? i found avgas to be a lot cleaner.

There are a lot of myths about AVGAS - rather than go on hear-say, I'd strongly advise asking someone who KNOWS for sure.. ie: Your dealer or mechanic.

As we already know from 91 & 96 octane fuel. "Usually" If you run a car tuned for 91 on 96, not much happens. If you run a car tuned for 96 on 91, it'll run like a dog.

In my experience (qualification: A general petrol head of limited formal training) :Punk: :
- Great in Turbo'd vehicles if you want to run higher boost without detonation.. the AVGAS itself won't make you much more power, but allowing you to run higher boost is the payoff..
- However, in modern cars it does tend to destroy some O2 sensors and catalytic converters.
- 4 strokes won't usually make more power unless they're tuned or modified for it. A modified inlet and exhaust may be enough of a change to show some improvement with AVGAS. A standard vehicle will probably not go any better.
- Higher Octane lets you run more advanced timing without leaning the engine out.
- Rotary Engines will go better if you setup the timing and sparkplugs to suit. Otherwise, no change.
- 2 strokes will usually perform better. Even if they don't perform noticeably better, they will be less prone to detonation.
- My mate now runs it in his 2001 RM250, the difference is clear, it pops wheelies easily in places where it used to need encouragement.

For people that Know they Want AVGAS, I'll gladly sell you some.

IF you're unsure, or uninterested save up that 50c per litre you'll be saving and buy your Mrs something nice... :yes:

(h)ave gas is less prone to Dislocation at the higher temp pressures in a Engine esp a the squish of a 2 smoke

If the squish is of a poor /older design then a fuel which can hold its own a bit better is a cheaper way of over comming the problem

Hondas ( standard ) run on cheap #$%& , though a common mod is to advance the timing , and then they become fair game to those Pinky monkeys

Then you start to try and get rid of the heat ...and the Rad/ coolant flow aint the top shelf ....

As for clean .. I havent stripped any Avgas engines , but I do a lot of cr engines and they are pretty clean , cant remember the last time I saw a gummed up ring ...

ran both my last two cr 250 om 100% avgas stripped the first on after a cock up with mixing ratios (piston became a grey paste in the crank) but in saying that head was nice and clean and the second one fixed leaking head gasket when i first got it head and piston gumed up ran avgas when i did rings before i sold it was noticeabily cleaner

I found my bike ran worse on avgas. However the station i bought it from probably has let it go off. Gas doesnt last long...
