ZZR250 Owners - opinion?

I've been looking at a sweet zzr250 in town that I'm thinking of purchasing(it's rare to have another bike, in my price range, that I like, that hasn't been sold yet, in Queenstown), and hence been spending many a hour searching the forums/net for zzr250 information.

General comments are it runs smooth as at 100-120, could cruise all day at this speed even. It's not fast like a CBR/ZXR/other il4's, but it's okay on gas.

I need a bike for commuting this year, and doing a few trips ~2h long. Start of next year I'll be riding my new bike, or current bike (dread) to Auckland, where I'll be commuting from Mt Albert to Brown's Bay everyday or more. I'm not too fussed with it being able to top 180km/h, just pass people, cruise on mway etc.

So, I was wondering if I could get some comments on people who own a zzr, cause you all seem to hate your ZZR250's (that's what I've gathered from most of the resident ZZR riders). Are they really that boring, that I'd bore of it within 6 months and want to sell it?

Nah, they do alright, I have one in my garage (in bits) and have done some pretty long trips 2 up. Coped fine. Definitly not the fastest bike in the world, but will outride some people on faster bikes that think they are fast.
Good reliable donk... Cheap bikes, and yeah, pretty good on gas. They look great, and apart from strokers, there isn't any 250 with performance to die for, so I say go for it.

Okay i had a 96 zzr250, (this ig going back about 4 1/2 years ago now when i sold it)

Taught wife, and sister in law to ride on it, did over 50,000kms on 3 years on it.
They really need to be serviced every 5,000kms,(just oil filter thing)

They do seam like a rattle motor to some people but that due to parrel twin,

Camchain normall needs replacing around 35,000-45,000kms Mine got thrashed alot in its time, two up, doing 500kms+, Had it put on dyno at 50,00kms (replaced camchain, even tho it was still good, and hp was still same as what it should be factory)

Standard they have a 140 rear, i went downt a 130 rear, since i made it turn in heaps better. Very underrated bike, goes bloody well, not as fast as say a cbr/zxr but i still saw mine hitting 180km/h+ (going down tga side of kamais). Took mine around taupo old track.

My nephews got one. I've ridden it several times and I really like it. I've told him that i want it for myself when he finishes with it.

Cruises nicely at 120... (although high rev's) but I guess thats with any 250??

I've had mine up to one seventy three (cant leave out the three) before dropping my 'nuts' so to speak. (Cashews??!):dodge:

Had quite a few comments such as 'looks bigger than a 250 etc...

wife went to a bike rally with her father, imanage this two girls 18-19 passing all these harley guys two up on a red/pink zzr250, they were so shamed out when they came to say that 600 goes well, and were told it was a 250 two up that just blew them away

she's not the fastest bike around, but quick enough to keep you outta (or in) trouble if it come to it; and she's is comfortable to ride all day straight, looks good and is easy to run.

At the moment I commute more than anything on mine and have found it is perfect for this. longer trips have been undertaken without issue, and tie down latches mean with a couple of bungie cords, you can ride without having to worry about the backache of a backpack or having to buy an additional packrack.

Pity I cant make it the track day this sunday at manfield, but I have taken her on the old taupo track and had a blast! It loves to corner, and did I mention the looks?

I concur :)

I dig mine. Its got reasonably smooth power from right down low, but it'll still rev out a bit.
I managed to keep up with a Suzuki (looked like a GSXR600 or 750) and a Honda on the way back from a Maraetai run, I was tapping it out for most of the Whitford hill and the ridge back down towards Botany. Dunno how hard the other 2 were riding, but I was happy :) 160ks uphill is pretty impressive for a 250
