Thieves strip boy's bike
19.10.2006
By BELINDA FEEK
RIA KEPA was on top of the world two weeks ago when his parents bought him a brand new motorbike.
After six days of riding the 2007 Honda CRF80 around the backyard, his dad, Andre, thought it was time for him to try out some decent turf – the Morgan St end of Castlecliff Beach.
However, it soon turned sour as four young men in an old white Toyota hatchback hurtled towards Ria.
“He got scared and fell off, then one of the guys grabbed the bike, kick-started it and took off,” Mr Kepa said.
The other three men jumped back in the car to drive off. However, the car had other ideas and stalled, with the battery falling out.
This enabled Mr Kepa to run and catch one of the guys, who had run off.
Although the bike was later found by police in Braves Park, Gonville, it had been stripped of all its plastics and left scratched and twisted.
The motorbike, once worth $3500, was left looking like $50. Mr Kepa was grateful to Dowman Keown Honda, who fixed the bike to make it “rideable”, but was still keen to find out where the stolen parts were.
Ria said he was devastated after the theft, but was pleased to be riding the machine again.
Wanganui police are investigating.

The Father caught one of the thieves.
Thief in custody.
Thief locked up until he spills the beans.
Round up the rest.
Where are the parts or pay for the repair bill divided by the four C@#ts.
Not rocket science.
Stealing is bad enough let alone terrorizing the young fella.

Well anyone who has the lack of social skills to steal off a child does not deserve to be locked up at my expense, I would happily pay for the bullet however.
I feel sorry for the kid, and really its not like a few body parts are going to make these idiots a fortune in the spare parts market, I can see it now the 'P' defense will be dragged out if the police ever catch these clowns.
I have been looking to find something lower than a worms ankle, guess that its out there and now has its 15 seconds of fame, probably bragging about this big job to its lowlife mates in the pub.

Chances are they have pitbikes and XR/CRF parts are like gold to them. The vast majority of pitbikes have XR50 style plastics so all the graphics kits are universal, I'm pretty sure the 80 shares the same plastics

Now seeing as i don't want to hijack this thread, i'd like Paul in NZ to get in touch with me, this is after all his baby (he had the idea to contact the editor) and i really want to see us help out this boy, having your shit ripped off sucks and i'd hate to see him have a bad impression of bikes.
Not to mention that it gives us a great PR boost as a biking community.

Good Job mate.
Folks - if you have $5 it's a start OK. No pressure, only if you are keen but, my reasoning is that there is a lot of miserable pricks out there - the sort of bastards that would steal from a kid.
Now I don't know if this kid comes from a rich family, a poor family or someplace in between, thats not the point. The point is that I don't think this is acceptable and since I can't chase down the bad guys I can at least make a gesture that WILL make a difference in someones life. Plus it will make me feel good as well.
And thats it isn't it. How do we make a difference while we see society sliding down the hill? The most effective way is to care and to give a shit.
if you can chip in even a couple of bucks, please do 'cos this (with Spank Ms permission) will be gifted from all of us - the wider biking community not from individuals (at least thats the way I see it)
I've stumped up some dosh - not much but some and it will make a difference I know. If only to me.
Cheers

paul, the bike was taken at castlecliff beach....castlecliff being the lower end of the wealth spectrum...mostly gang members and the like live out that way. though in recent years, rich people from welly and auckland have been buying the beachfront houses for a fair bit of $$, so the area has improved a little. still a long way to go!

As you all know Darryl was on the ferry back home and got turned around, he was nice enough to call me this afternoon and give me the low down.
The cost price of the parts needed to fix the boys bike is just under $600 and yes he is going to supply them for cost and Dowman Keown Honda in Wanganui are going to do all the work for free :)
Soo .. here's a plug for their site :)
http://dowmanhonda.motorcycletrader.co.nz/
A check of the current balance this afternoon showed $110.
And we have a current pledge total of $330 .. so we are doing pretty well :)
Even if we can't get all the cash needed to fix this kids bike, every little bit helps :)
On a side note, Darryl tells me that the dad of the boy has been in touch and he is completely overwhelmed by what we are doing and we have been promised photos of the bike and the happy wee chap once we get this all squared away.
Keep up the good work people.

P defence should not exist... Unless they were forced to aquire some P, place it in a pipe, apply flame to it and inhale...
Maybe they should be able to sieze stuff for personal reparation... Why should these assholes be able to drive round in their $15 car's with $12000 of sounds and wheels while paying back a kid at 5 bucks a week for the rest of thier lives...
The system is seriously flawed...

The system is seriously flawed...
The system is usually ok - it's the people that are flawed. Thats what this is about - showing this kid that most of us are good bastards. Remember that this crime was done by a motorcyclist and it's important that we show that 99% of us are not like that.

Shit mate - I hope thats a bit of a piss take as even I'm not that calculating and I'm in sales and marketing. (ie bugger - why didn't i think of that?)
If I get a picture of a happy lad it will be going here. If there is a positive spin for all motorcyclists I will promote it but number one is to DO something to counter these miserable pricks. Sadly I don't wear me undies on the outside of me tights and this is all i can do... So thats what I'm doin'

LOL actually no - no p/t. It's as good a time as any (like you say - make the thing short and sharp) and if any publicity is your goal, that seems a logical one to work to.
And yeah - I'm in Sales/Marketing too... did it show?
edit - that being said... I reckon the publicity needs to be around the kid. Sure there's a good news story in there, but I'd prefer the pay it forward philosophy being the focus, the happy kid and the Dad seeing his little man being (rightly) looked after.

Count me in for $20 too. My parent's first house (and therefore mine) was at the north end of Karaka St in Castlecliff. I don't remember it being a "rough" neighbourhood, but as kids we were the same as everyone else, brown or white then.

Hes just amazed that we have done as much as we have.

All good... no need to ease up on the good work now though (I'm happy to help out where needed). Give the poor little bugger something to really celebrate. Shit I'll even pay for his first tank of fuel
edit - I see Quasi has boots on there for $200, although I'm not sure how they compare with what his dad was looking at.

Tis a good point, but if he needs safety kit he needs safety kit. Same would apply to lid, gloves and jacket.

Thats a good idea .. LOL
I know that boots probably arn't the best thing, but according to the dad, his current ones are falling apart and next to useless ..
I intend to give the rest of the money we collect to the father and he can spend it on whatever gear he feels his son needs most.

Just joined the thread and the generosity of KB'ers gives you the warm fuzzies alright.
As soon as I get a PM with the details I'll bang in $20 from the pillion and I. We can do the online thingy thismorning. Hope its not too late.
And, like most here, I'd dearly love to know the names and addresses of the lowlifes who menaced the young fella on his bike. Even if it was simply to "name and shame" them. It wouldn't be too hard to put up some pics of their day in court?
I am sure, however, that if the "system" doesn't deal to them then karma will!
Cheers,

Just cover your arse on that one. The civil libertarians don't like any extra punishment being dealt out... although a name and shame campaign would be a brilliant follow up.
Help the kid for sure... and name and shame the bad guys as the second act.

However, you can all rest assured that i will keep you up to date, when i can .. lol.
just a quick update, with the extra cash we have received we have a total of $192.76 over the total needed to fix the kids bike.

Just quietly I've been having a really great week helping people. Helped get a young fella a job and pointed another young fella at an apprenticeship (hopefully) and the continuing goodness from this thread. I'm happy. The best part about it is that I don't feel the need for reward from any of this - it just makes me feel good (and I like that)

To be honest it would not surprise me if they did. This isn't about what others would not have done - it's about what people did do. And it rocks
Something Steve from Blue Wing told me - this is about the motorcycling community, with a bunch of people pitching in. Focus on what's been done by the community, not what individuals contributed.
It's not verbose, but he said it even if it was different words.

Right oh people,
I've just transferred the last of the donation money to Dowman Honda, being $172.76.
So that gives us a total amount of $770.
That should go a long way towards some decent gear for the little guy .. lol .. Don’t you just love it when Christmas comes early?
Once I have some photo's I’ll post them up for everyone to see but in the meantime I have a couple of things to say.
First, I’d like to once again thank all my fellows KB’ers for your support, you people are the cream of society, that’s right, the cream and I am proud to be counted among your numbers. You saw an injustice and you did something about it, how many people can say that about themselves?
Second, Dowman Honda. These blokes stepped up and came to the party and when I’m down that way next, I’ll be popping in to say hello and shake them all by the hand, Hell, I may even make the trip just to buy my next bike off them.
And finally, Blue Wing Honda. Holy shit!, what can you say, with the support of these guys we have managed to not only fix this young boys bike but we have managed to get him some kick ass gear as well. Thank you Blue Wing Honda, you guys rock!.

Well bugger me with a buttered stick of blackberry...
Well done folks - and in particular to WarlockNZ for stepping out and doing something with the contacts he had. A whip round was suggest, I dropped an email BUT this guy DID something and that snowballed into a grand thing indeed.
Would Honda have supported this so generously if KB had not highlighted it and got behind it? Maybe... But maybe they wouldn't have even heard about it - no disrespect intended but it was a small story from the boarderlands eh?
The point is..... Something magic happened and a bad bad thing was made into a very very good thing because a few good people acted. Thats a lesson for life - never be afraid of doing the right thing and selfless acts.
I'm proud of you all.... If you didn't have the $$ to make a donation this time, don't worry, if you thought this was a silly thing, at least you had the sense not to criticize...
This is KIWI biking at its best and I'm delighted...

Hey all, it'll get to the point where we'll just be paying for too much... Cool to give him a leg up, but no point spoon-feeding the whole elephant.
How about giving them $300 on top of getting the bike fixed, and then:-
a. Donating the rest towards website costs, or
b. Putting it in some sort of trust account that can go toward other similar causes? This however, will require management.
c. We could give the remainder towards a charity of choice? Westpac Helicopter trust thing maybe?

I hear what you're saying but it was all given with the intent of helping the kid. I.e. everyone wanted to contribute to that cause, I say leave it where it is.
It's true we've covered the bases financially though and I hope we absolutely rock this kid's world. On to the next thing...

I had a chat to Andre last night (that's the dad), the young boy had no idea what was happening and from all accounts was just expecting the bike to have had had some work done on it.
Andre was tell me that his eyes just lit up when he saw the bike completely fixed and then he was told he and about $1000 to spend in the shop .. now that would have been a Kodak moment.. lol.
He left with complete new kit, and still has $400 on his account at dowman's, he went to bed that night in his new bike pants and shirt and keep asking his dad if they could go back to the shop.. LOL.
The boy was going to write us a letter of thanks, but has asked his dad if he can make us a video instead, so Andre is going to send me the tape when it's done .. on a side note .. I'll need to figure out a way to convert VHS to digital .. lol .. I'm sure I'll figure something out.
Dowman's took some photos as well .. so i am just waiting for those to arrive and i will post them as soon as they do.
Looks like we managed to get this young lad even more excited about bikes than he was before.
