Yep, lots of people.

What do you want to compare it to? What do you want to do with it?

Both the vtr and the SV are pretty good all round bikes. Neither full on sports or tourers.

You can certainly do the miles on a VTR. 240k to a tank is not too bad.

The VTR won't keep up with an inline 4 sport bike in a straight line. But has been known to give the odd 600 (not a modern thou) a wake up call on the twisty hilly bits.

How nice it would be to get that milage from my VTR. Im gunna have to upgrade the tank to increase my milage. Damn. Never mind, lifes like that when you are enjoying something.

From the ride on one & what I have heard & seen they are an OK bike that does a good all round job on the road & track , Not a top spec bike but a Good mid level bike that is reliable & goes well >

The VTR scrubs up real well. I spent the day stripping the back end, cleaning the bike withs keroseen and far out. The bike comes up like a jewel. Then crc was applied on to area needing such treatment. Changed the oil and filter, cleaned out the air system. Nice.

However, i wanted to place a new RK-XW Ring chain and sprokets and realised that the job may mean additional work. The cover over the front sprocket requires that you need to take the cover off the clutch slave cylinder. It is part of the main sproket cover, i think. Bummer. Am i wrong in my assumption? or can it be removed a part of the cover. The main bolts holding the cover on also a part of the sproket cover.

Great all rounder the VTR,easy to ride and can get up and go when the mood hots up.At the track the front end gets a bit soft and the brakes show their age,but still great fun.And being Honda it won't give any probs for a long time.

By crappy milage do you mean km/litre or km/tank?

You mentioned upgarding the tank, can you elaborate?

I'm considering the VTR as a contender for my next bike ('cause I love the twin sound, and like the look).

From what I gather pre 2001 models had a 13 litre tank and the VTR has two of the biggest carbs around.
Vtr's produced after then were upgraded to a 19 litre tank and upgraded forks and gauges.

17 litre. Got upgraded to 19 after bulk complaints from owners about lack of range. Realistically, Honda should have addressed the thirst issue.

Love my VTR1000, altho I can't recall what it's like to ride at the moment, have been way too busy. Hopefully that will be adressed in the next week or two.
As it being my first bike back after a 7yr layoff I've found it very user friendly and it sounds great with the pipes and has plenty of get up and go for me. Being my first ever v-twin I'm amazed at how good the bottom end of the rev range is compared to inline 4s I've had.
The front brake seems very average to me, I've changed the fluid and have some decent HBC pads to put in, so hopefully that should be ok.
I have the 2002 model so the tank is a good size, but I have'nt gone on a decent long ride yet.
I'll keep my VTR, as I'm still getting my 'road sense' back on a bike, and if I do get rid of it will do so only for a Duc......I'm in love with the v-twin now.

Hi, I have one and love it. The rectifier/regulator packed a sad on mine @ 18k. The replacement had been modified by Mr Honda so it is less prone to overheating which seems to be the issue with the original.
Apart from that one issue, (which was a common fault) I have had a great run with the bike. Hope you do too.
Cheers Geoff

Crazy Steve. No, just a little over 240k tops what I got on the track at pukekohe.
she pulls all the way to the redline in all gears. seams to get to 200k quick and from there a slow buildup to 240esh

THeyre not that great for consumption but not bad considering the size of the carbs on them(biggest hondas ever put on a bike) mine has stage one dyna jet kit,K&N filter and micron pipes and I can get an easy 240kms averaging 130km/ph.
The good thing about the storm is its very easy to get after market parts for because its remained unchanged for so long.
Ebays a great thing

the VTR officially did 385km/h with the whole indian army motorcycle display team on it.

and then jumped through a burning wall of fire.

That was the prototype (hence the name Firestorm), I want to know about the production version.

Wouldn't belive that, the only it would get to that speed is if you dropped it out the back of a C130 at 30,000 feet.

I love mine, I commute in Auckland traffic on it everyday. I've got dynojet kit, scorpian cans and it sounds amazing.
Because it's a twin it's a lot skinnier than the fours hence better at getting between cages :)
