God damn it. Just noticed this morning that our motorbike trailer was stolen. Dad and his mate Peter spent several weeks building this awesome trailer, and spent several thousand on materials alone. We had it about 20 metres down our driveway next to the garage, and it had a wheel clamp on it, a bolt lock and the rear gate was padlocked too.

It has a very high rear gate, covered with mesh steel that doubled as the ramp to get the bikes up. Had steel box section around the sides and timber filling in all the gaps so it could be used as a conventional trailer aswell, except for the front. The middle bike rail is extended further forward than the side ones. This is a one off trailer, and we would recognise it straight away. Damn it I'm angry. Being very restrained not to swear right now.

Bloody inorganic collections bring the thieves in packs. We were just organising having some front gates put on our place (in Pakuranga).

Will attach pictures as soon as I find them.

Since these pictures were taken, it had been galvanised (so nice and silvery) and timber filled in all the gaps including on the sides.

that sucks mate!!!

Depending on what kind of car/house/contents/motorcycle insurance you have, it may be covered. Most motorvehcile policies have a trailer extension built in and some motorcycle policies have it as well if they are used to carry your bike..

GOod luck in getting it back.

Mum just checked, it's not covered, as it is registered in its own right. The only thing it would be covered for would be if it was being towed by another vehicle and was involved in an accident, 3rd party damage would be covered by the towing vehicles insurance.

We are in Pakuranga if I hadn't mentioned it.

Yippeeee, good news. Trailer was recovered this evening by the guy who helped my dad build it. Just saw it entering a carpark as he was leaving. Sounds like he didn't involve the cops, in exchange for its peaceful return, so vengeance isn't mine. All the locks on it had been ground off. Jockey wheel missing. All the timber in the gaps has also been removed. Pain in the arse cause there was about $100 of timber that was painstakingly cut planed to fit... Just happy to have it home, now I can get to Puke and back on my own :)

So, The thieves are free to go and steal someone else's trailor now?!

Yeah was dissappointed not to see them get reamed. But our justice system is pretty lame anyway. Plus I think they may have just bought it off the thieves, so they would probably just be up for receiving. They were of eastern european ethnicity. This is all second hand info, cause I wasn't part of the recovery.

Did he get the rego of the towing vehicle? Be nice to ring the cops with that little bit of info, cos you can bet your boots they have more hot stuff at home!

Need to make sure you keep your trailer well secured now, they may just come back to recover it!

Yeah he did get the rego, but he was so fired up and pumped with adrenalin when he got them to drop it off at his house, he forgot the rego number. He was on a motorbike when he spotted it, so he made them drop it off... I think they bought it off gang members cheap, so they were probably only receiving stolen gear, which in my opinion is a smaller crime than the stealing of it in the first place.

In your opinion maybe, but not in the eyes of the law.

Anyways, youve got to pick your battles I suppose. Glad you got your trailer back.
