Tonight, TV3, 5pm.
It's that rocking show where they count down the 10 greatest ever machines of various types. Others in this series include 10 greatest tanks, weapons, heavyweight monsters, trucks, and sports cars, etc.
It's a repeat that was on tv almost a year ago, and it generated more than 200 posts in this thread.

Should be worth a look if you haven't seen it already.

Shit programme, missed out lots of influential machinery. Typical TV bullshit written by people with no knowledge of the items they are showing.
Sure the Honda 50 stepthru would win if it was a program on the top 10 most sold bikes......

Oh yeah, they always put a lame machine at number 10. I was going to list my guesses before I saw it had already been discussed on here, and I was going to say a 50cc scoot will be #1 because of all the millions of them out there in Asia.

Why do free-to-air broadcasters feel compelled to repeat programmes that have already been done to death on one (at least) of Sky's channels?
I suspect that that is a question to which there is no answer. A bit like expecting people who don't watch the State Broadcaster to know who Robson Green is...

top mc was spot on the mark.:dodge:
Personnally I think it was a piss take to invoke debate. It was also mentioned that the CB750/4s handled and implied the front disc brakes where of any use.

It was also mentioned that the CB750/4s handled and implied the front disc brakes where of any use. Anyone who actually road one would tell you the rear drum brake was better at slowing them down.
Rode a f2 for 3 years and always wanted to move that rear drum to the front for improved braking.
They missed my fav bike The Honda CBX1000 (http://www.allenmotorsports.com/cbx.htm) there was a fun bike to ride

My f1 certainly did. Got rid of it because it was a bus compared to the cb550f I've got.
There's an f1 on TM at the moment-

The key thing about this ...... bike was it got kids started and hooked on bikes.
Truelly a gutless wonder but shit it went a long long way on a few litres of fuel!
I had one as a first bike and quickly upgraded to larger bikes. (Well you could only go to larger and I felt a bit embarrassed about being seen on it.)
Nearly 40 years later I still own and enjoy riding motorbikes and I'm pleased to say that two of my sons have road bikes also.
That little C50 may have assisted in changing the attitude of many to owning 2 wheels.

I owned a Honda 740/4. The F2 model I think. It was about a 1977/78 model? Brakes were average when dry and non existent if it rained. The original 750/4 was a show stopper in it's day so i'm pleased it got a place.
I don't think the point of the show was the greatest bike because of speed, or power,or technology or sales... More, in some way it had a major impact on motocycling. In that sense whatever the first motor-on-a-bike was that has to be the greatest. The Cub deserved some mention (not bloody first though) for simply introducing the most amount of people to m/cycling. Any show that promotes m/c is good in my books.

I think they were bang on with number 1. The honda cub is a legend bike, they are found on every part of the globe, have crossed more rough and inhospitable places than any other bike, Been affordable and reliable transport for millions and did wonders for the image of bikes and bike riders in the western world. Not to mention there longevity. How many farmers in NZ had honda cub/ct 90/ct110 over the years? Posties?
I would have thought some of the german BMW's that helped take over half the world and then copied by the russians for 60 years might have featured

I managed to miss it. I didn't even know it was on as I spent most of the weekend at work. 15 1/2 hours on Friday and 16 3/4 hours on Saturday!!! followed by 11 hours on the Sunday although that was on the other side of the bar :D
So if anyone recorded it and wouldn't mind be borrowing the tape/dvd I would very much appreciate it if you'd let me know.
Kindest regards
