View Full Version : My First Bike !!!!!!!!

Hi guys how are you all??
I got yesterday my FIRST OWN MOTORBIKE!!!!!!! And I am just so proud of this beauty  It´s a Honda VTR250, matt black from 2005 and 13.000 kms on it. I am a totally learner and except a few lessons and my basic handling skill test no experience at all. After I spend my half fortune (incl. the bike - but it´s so worth!) they delivered it yesterday to my place.
And guess what: It was raining!!! There is nothing more worse than having your first motorbike in your life and all what you want to do is going for a ride and then RAIN, isn´t it? Bugger. Oh well but I had luck and in the evening the streets were dry and we had even a little bit of a sunshine :-)
So I certainly had to go for a ride with him (my motorbike is a boy but I am not sure yet about his name!)
The first time on the road - with the first bike AND no experience. And when I rode it felt GREAT. I rode certainly just in streets were no other car was (except one which overtook me and beeped - cheeky bugger. I just waved and smiled - and kept on driving). I felt like the queen in the world and had the whole day a big smile in my face till I got a cramp in my cheeks haha. Well I thought I rode in a normal speed but I was so concentraded and happy and then I recognized that I rode just 30kms ! Jesus and I am German - what happened with the speed????? Doesn´t matter to me (not now and yet anyway!) because at first I have to learn how to ride proper and then I can start to speed up.
Oh men I have soooo much to learn. One of the 1000 things is for example my wrists. I had sometimes a bit trouble to keep them straight and move them gentle. Or I changed a few times the gear but forgot to let the throttle of (my poor new baby!) and all these kind of things. But it felt so great! I guess I was also a bit more nervouse because the streets here in Brooklyn are so small and windy and steep! But it was everything fine and I just loved it. My baby certainly as well. And today is the wheather just so bad that I won´t be able to go for a ride at all
So hopefully I have luck tomorrow and can practice again and again and again. Attached is a picture from my baby - but hey no jelousy please :sunny:

Whoah! NICE first bike! Where'd you get that?

Practice.
Or I changed a few times the gear but forgot to let the throttle of (my poor new baby!) and all these kind of things.
Oh, it'll survive that, don't you worry.
So hopefully I have luck tomorrow and can practice again and again and again.
Yeah, exactly. Practice. Take it really gently, there's no pressure. Keep your eyes up and look in the direction you want to go. Look out for the cagers and assume they have not seen you. Congratulations, you'll love it.

Well done Sphinx! You've picked up one of the better looking 250's around at the moment I reckon.
Ranty Dave has probably given some of the best advice around too - ride as if everyone is out to get you. Assume that all vehicles that can invade your space will and that anticipation will give you valuable time to react and do what you need to do. That doesn't mean you'll not still be able to enjoy the ride, just that you'll (hopefully) develop a 6th sense about what other road users are doing around you.
Take care with those white lines when they're wet too. Have fun and keep us posted on your new adventures! Cheers, bell :sunny:

Hey there! Glad to hear you're happy with your new bike, I hope it gives you a lot of fun (and safe) times!
Thanks for doing business with me, you were a total pleasure to deal with!
Good on you for getting out even though it's been so nasty, I went for my first big road ride since my accident today, and even though I got pretty soaked, I had a fat old time!!
All the best....

That happened to me too. And it seems to happen everytime I buy a new bike also.
Congrats on your new bike - looks good.

Hi guys thanks so much! I am sure that I will have heaps of fun with him. And yes he is such a beauty!
LardEmbargo - you make the right thing to buy one as well
Do you know already where to go to? Because I just can recommend the Motorcycle shop in the Kent Tce (Wlgt) that´s where I bought my baby.
And Pete: Thank YOU! Such a great service and you helped me so much with my bike - I really appreciate that! And I will come over this week with a cake (or muffins)
Can you all understand now why I said even better than chocolate??
I certainly will take much care about him no worries!
I woke up today in the morning and saw all the b..... rain - again. But in the afternoon it stopped to rain and the streets were mostly dry so I decided to go for a little ride again to get some practice. And belive it or not but after 5 minutes it started again to rain :Offtopic: So I turned around, dried him with a soft towel in the garage and had a good talk instead with him. Certainly not the same but oh well how you said already: That´s obviously normal that you have bad weather when you have your first motorbike.
But shall I tell you what? Really funny because despite of it was just the second time on the street today and I rode for just 5 minutes I felt already a bit more secure. Strange, isn´t it. That must be love.....
So if anyone is fancy for a ride with us (me and bike certainly!) please just let me know but don´t forget: I am not ridign in rain yet and I ride still a slow :scooter:
I hope you all had a good day and at least some of you good weather!??

Good stuff Sphinx. Thats a great looking bike you have there. Just a small note: you 'drive' a car and 'ride' a bike...you'll get used it ;)

Hi Skelstar thanks for that! I always change it because in Germany we drive everything (except a horse!) :-)
Mr Peanut: Had speedy a bad damage??

No, not too bad :) Broke his headlight and his fairing, but I have nice new ones I have to put on anyway. This is why it is good to have a naked bike

WOW! I thought someone had nicked me bike for a moment there but then your frame is black where mine is silver.
I had mine in Matt Black for a while but it lookes really ratty when it got dirty so I've glossed it up a bit. The Little top fairing does a great job too of deflecting the wind from your chest - handy to have in Wellington.
VTR is a fine choice for a first bike - the only problem is that they're not cheap to buy but what do you get for your money? - torque so you don't stall, reliability, quality workmanship and the handling....lovely.
My wife didn't like the VTR but then she married me so that proves she has poor taste - hence she has a Suzuki RG150.
Congrats.

Mr Peanut: What´s fairing? And can you fix it by yourself? And how is your dog???
McJim: Haha VTR = good taste so excuse me! I love my baby. Don´t know the Suzuki you were talking about but is it a good one?
I went yesterday for a ride: 47 kms!!!!!!!! Certainly just in the city and quiet areas like Lyall Bay, Island Bay etc. Rode even 70kms on the Ohiro Road!!!!! WOW such a great bike! And today I missed obviously the 50 sign and rode 70 - passed the police on the side! Uuups. But that was really accidentaly because I haven´t seen the sign!! One turned but for some reason didn´t follow be and told me off. Hope that he didn´t take a "picture" from me. Maybe I was still in the 70zone I am no more sure anyway...But slowed immediately down because I am such a good girl
Well I almost lost my balance yesterday: When I turned left into a steep mainstreet (uphill). I had to brake as a car came around this stupid corner and baby rolled back and started to lean left (where the footpath was) but supergirl me took all the power against it and could save him! Puuuh. And I really have to practice corner, turns and stop and keep on riding UPHILL! Almost rode into a parking car because I thought I want make the turn anymore and stupid me instead of looking where I want to ride to I looked at the parking car - coming closer and closer  But I made it in the end. That´s my news for today! Oh and I rode another 25kms today. riding a motorbike is just soooo beautiful
I hope you had all a good day and have a good evening now :zzzz:

I'm up Brooklyn way (Kingston) and ride an older VTZ250 (pretty much the spiritual ancestor of your shiny new VTR250). - i'd be keen to go on a group ride sometime - I try and get out and do a little run around the coast (island bay to oriental bay) most weekends. I also commute to work and back every day so i'll be sure to give you a wave if i see you and your bike.
I've been riding my bike for only a couple of months (had a 50cc scooter before that) so i'm pretty much a learner too, and loving it.
Good advice re. 'dont trust anyone else on the road' - healthy paranoia is something every motorbike rider should cultivate.

Hi yah you should chuck a picture from your baby into this forum so I can see her!
I quite like the Island Bay/Lyall Bay/Oriental Parade area as well - it´s a nice ride there isn´t it. I would love to ride in a group - if you go the next time let me know - I would love to come with you guys...!??Have a great evening

Hey Sphinx, Glad to hear your loving your bike  riding is awsome isn't it!!!
If you're ever coming up to Taupo give me a PM :) It would be awsome to meet you and go for a ride... I could show you all the nice roads up here by the lake.
Just a bit of advice... never trust gravel and if you can... avoid it!! But keep it up fellow biker angel!! Sounds like you are doing great
