Beginners first bike

hey,

Looking to get my first bike. No previous riding experience. Want something sporty.

considering the fxr150 as im finding that 250cc sporty bikes are generally above $3000-$3500.
my budget is around $2500.

any suggestions??

Fxr150 or an older GN250 (pre 95) would be an excellent choice within that price bracket.

My wife is just learning to ride and I only had $2,000 budget to buy her a bike.

Bought her a Suzuki RG150 - was worried the 2 stroke would be too fickle for her but she was out on it today and had a ball - she loves the bike.

GN250 is a good, reliable and economic commuter.
FXR150 is a good bike too.

Isn't there footage of the aftermath of that bike sliding off the higway at speed? Whilst being ridden by a bloke who claims he has "Never binned on the open road?"

First - what gear do you have? Good gear (or even medium priced gear) will set you back between $700 - $1000. $300+ for a new helmet (if you don't have one) codura is $400ish & leather, more. If you're buying a new bike and gear make sure you put a bit extra on for gear even if it means waiting a little while longer. That said, it's up to you what you want to wear, don't cry about it if you come off and get hurt is all.

As far as bikes go... even for a 250 you're looking at a ZXR250 (as above) or TU250 (Volty) or something and they'll mostly be around the $3 - $3 1/2 range. Buy something cheap and it'll require more money in the long run to keep going.

Consider the RG150 and KRR150s. They're 250 pace for 150 prices, although theres more maintenance and you want to be careful with your right wrist until you get the hang of things. My KR is my first bike and I'd highly recommend it, great fun!

I found them to be light...very light. Getting onto a gsx250 seemed like a huge leap after riding fxr150. Encounting trucks coming the opposite direction was always a challenge. She got blowin around a fair bit. Apart from that shes been a fantastic bike to learn on. Fastest ive had mine was 130.....down hill...with a tail wind :)
New tyres are cheap (cost me $180 for a pair). They run on an oily rag and go plenty fast enough while you learn.

You'll outgrow it quickly. And parts might be a little hard to get. That said, its one of the best learner bikes out there, and certainly the best in your price bracket.
