I have had a search of the forums and there seems to be little information about what I should get for my first bike!
Suggestions please.
Looking at maybe a fxr150 or similar.

If you're into any off-roading I'd definately recommend one of these babies. (image at bottom of page)
Very sturdy and easy to ride. Very quick pick up too, I just bout shat myself!!!! It was unbelievable.
Not to mention, an absolutely fantastic option as you go through half the amount of tyres in a year compaired to what you would go through if you brought one of them silly little fxr150's.
Within a reasonable price range too.
Or you could try one of these babies...

I have reason to believe the pink would suit you quite nicely...

The first thing, is what do you want to use it for most?
Commuting, open road, off road? a mix of all of these?
Second thing is what is your budget?
Many bikers learnt on off road bikes to start, these have tha advantage of being cheaper to repair when you fall of (belive me it will happen on day) and you can ride off road and get some experience without being in the middle of traffic.
If you are going to do a lot of commuting then it comes down to budget and what style of bike you like the look of most, sports bikes will teach you alot about handling as they tend to need a little more active riding compared to a cruiser style bike, an FXR150 is a resonably cheap bike, so long as it is in good condition with good tyres should serve well as a round town commuter but might be a little under powered if you want to do some open road touring
What degree of experience do you have?
If you are a rank beginner than don't get something that is as fast as possible, the modern 250cc bikes are really quite scary compared to what I learnt on (it had girder forks and a 3 speed villiers 150cc 2 stroke single)

Go for an older chick man. They know more stuff, have more money, and will be grateful for the attention.

Yamaha have released the Scorpio 225 now in NZ.
Appear to be reasonably priced at $3,800.00. You get a new bike and a warranty, less/no repair costs. Naked so when you drop it, you don't have extra repair costs.
I haven't ridden one, but may be worth a look. Certainly a better looking machine than the GN and being a Yamaha will most likely last longer.

Kawasaki do a nice 1400cc bike that would suit you very well.
Note to people REALLY looking for a first bike - Matt has posted this because there are so many "I would like a bike - what should I start on?" threads.
He is trying to be ironic.....perhaps he still believes irony means "like iron" who knows?
