Guys, is Woodhill open on weekdays? If not, is there anywhere else to ride on weekdays near auckland?

The last information I saw said it was open every day but it would pay to confirm. Give Greg Power a call, he runs the park 09 410 1498 or 025 454429.

The only other place I know of that is close to Auckland would be Thunderpark but I believe it's only open Wednesday-Sunday. James Fowley runs it 09 233 3117

That you Nick? Anyway, the word is Woodhill is now closed during the week. The only reason I can think of why is because Greg Power cannot collect money from riders during the week. No other good reason as far as I can see seeings as we have been able to ride in the bike park during the week since way back in the 80's.
Greg Power does have his twilight rides every second Tuesday arvo from 2.00pm. These have just started up again after a two month break but you will have to wait until next week for the next twilight ride.

Yep, It's me, I hear you have gone yellow on us eh? How do you find the new bike compared to the 200exc?

Bugger about the park. Where's a guy to ride when he's pulling a sickie!

Still got the KTM but liking the Zook more and more. A few more things to do on the KTM and then I might sell it and get a 07 SX250 when the Moto boys start unloading them. The Zook is a little faster handling in the trees but the KTM is still a great bike.
I can see more people starting to ride in the forests illegally which was the reason the original Woodhill bike park was started up by the Waitemata Motorcycle Club in consultation with the Forest service of the day. Now its all about comercial gain unfortunatley. Bring back weekday riding in the bike park or there will be a return to illegal riding by many is my view.

A return!! There are plenty of idiots out there now, riding illegally and they have been for a long time. There's always some brain dead, smug fucker who'll spoil it for the rest of us.

It used to be great in Napier, you could go to the river and it is free, you have to look out for dickheads in mums car racing around the river and the burnt out cars, but it was great.

It's a pity that there is no-where in auckland that you can just got for a wee ride around for free......

I think you should be able to rock up at woodhill Carter holt harvey info center, pay the $20 Fee, and head on over to the bike park. Chh and power adventures could split the fee, and everyone concerned would be better off?

Anyone know how hard is it to get an individual permit to ride from chh? Or is there no such thing...

I believe the mid-week closure has a lot to do with H & S issues rather than profitability (although that is also likely to be an issue).

I can't see the Bike Park ever opening on a regular basis on week days unless there is a site manager there, certainly not with all the bureaucratic crap that you have to do through to get a resoucre consent to operate and then there's compliance with health and safety. This country is too bloody PC can't ever take a piss in your back yard with out first consulting with your neighbours, getting iwi approval and then complying with noise constraints. The only place you used to be able to ride for free was on the beach but you can't even do that now because they call the beach a road! Too many rules..............

If you want somewhere to ride for free midweek, try Karioitahi Beach, just south of Waiuku. Midweek is best as there is mostly no one around to upset, gets pretty busy weekends. Some good sand trails along the beach to the south just behind the dunes and right up to the forest. Plenty of signs at the carpark from the local Council advising regs not to ride on the beach/dunes - farkers!!!! :whocares: You'll soon gets sick of riding there (limited tracks) but worth a ride if you're Looking for somewhere new.

Who the hell cuts all the trails that you fuckers ride for free? What the hell have you ever done to help out? The ride fee goes to the club to help pay for arrows, staples, tape, St Johns, CHH, insurance blah blah blah blah blah. Not one cent goes into anyone's pocket. We spend hundreds of hours cutting trails. If we run into some assholes riding the tracks while we're marking out for a trailride, we will go off at them. They are illegal. If I literally run into you it's your fault for being somewhere you're not allowed to be & believe me, I'll take it to court.

Yes, comments like this wind me up. Assholes like you wind me up. If you happen to crash & I happen to come along, expect me to keep riding/walking. I don't care. If you turn up at a trailride, expect us all to help you out and do whatever we can (within reason).

Oh, if you happen to set fire to the forest without insurance (public liability & whatever else the club, Power Adventures & other users need), I'll laugh at you but will be upset that it's one less place for others to ride.

You're not a smug fucker, you're just a fucker who wants to win lotto and not even buy a ticket. If you don't have a job to pay for it, shame on you, it ain't that hard.

We want to ride our bikes too, but illegal riders are killing that for us even if we're marking out trailrides or cutting trails for others to ride on.

Send me red whateverthehellitscalledstuff, I don't care. I'm just amazed that some illegal riders actually know how to read & write & maybe even use a computer.

There are places to ride midweek - try Kimmy's farm, Thundercross Park, the new mx place in Onehunga, I dunno, you work it out. I work Mon-Fri so I can have weekends free (apart from all the time I spend out in the forests helping with events - wonder why I've had a gutsful of it all).

Beaches are public roads - get over it. Farms are private property - get over it. Forests are leased from the crown - get over it. Basically, sort your own shit out & maybe think about doing something helpful instead of helping us all get kicked out of whatever land we have left to use.

Oh, btw, I'm coming over in the weekend as I want somewhere to ride my bike, I heard your place is fine to ride on.

mate, believe me, if i won lotto tomorrow you;d be the first person id invite to come over and ride, and i wouldnt charge ya! you talk abt cutting trails, staples and signs,i get up there most weekends and witness huge numbers of bikes and do wonder wat the money is paying for. dont get me wrong i pay my way and support the facility (on the weekends) with enthusiasm, its benificial to us all,but how many new trails have been cut in the last 12 months? how many staples have you used? at the end off the day, someones profiting from me from riding the crown land, fuck that! i;v been involved in many sports organisations where people do a hell off alot work for absolutly no personal gain! the last thing i think of when racing down the beach (mid week) is who is or isnt making money out of me if i decide to duck into a trail,if the sort of appreciation you want is a financial one then im sorry,if ever you guys need a hand up there just let us know, more than happy to lend a hand in a working B type day, otherwise, keep up the good work! is that PC enough for ya?

I'm talking about further south of the bike park, not the actual bike park. The problem isn't during the week, but on the weekends. As for how many staples I've used lately, umm, I hate to count. New arrows - had some delivered just before our last event - at about 3 for $1, they're not cheap. They do get used plenty but the club needs money in its coffers to pay for things like that. Staplers are the same - they get lost, they break.

All we want is a safe environment where we can organise events & not worry about having a head on. We charge less for club members as club members pay to join the club. It's $35 for an adult a year, $45 for families - these are the most expensive joining fees. I think it's $25 for a youngster. This is not a plug for the Waitemata Club. With the money we get we also pay for bridges in Riverhead, saws for us to use to cut trails with. It also pays for postage of the fliers.

I spend 2-4 hours after each event working on the database, I then spend another hour or two printing out labels. I don't charge for the use of the printer or paper, but do put in receipts for the labels.

It is not about appreciation, it's about safety. I can't comment about what work's done at the bike park as I ride weekends & I've not ridden there for about 4-5 years.

Believe me, we don't like charging for the riding, but not much worthwhile is free in this world. I don't ride a Honda either. None of us in the club make a cent, Power Adventures is a commercial operator but how he survives on what profit there is in his events is beyond me.

If you get caught in CCH forest you get a 2 year ban plus fine. caught again bigger fine. It's basically trespassing.

If you want to ride at Woodhill stick to the bike park don't be one of those silly farkers who risk it for all of us, Greg works hard to keep the bike park going, there's more to it than just collecting $ and putting up arrows. The bombing range and beach are a different story, freedom for all, just like Kunta Kenta from Roots fame......
