View Full Version : Guy Fawkes Auckland 250 ride, BBQ + Fireworks
Maverick
24th October 2006, 13:35
Hi Guys,
The next 250 ride is scheduled to land on Guy Fawkes,
Thought it could be fun to go for a ride, then have a BBQ somewhere and let off some fireworks,
Mav
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2006-11-5&e=991&c=1
Update:
At this point it looks like a ride out east starting around 3pm, then anyone who wants to come back to our place to get takeout and let off some fireworks is welcome.
This invitation is generally open to those who ride with us and their kids/partners etc, Im not posting my address and details for all and sundry to turn up later.
Alcohol is BYO, Drink driving is not encouraged or advised.
Fireworks, I will be getting some, people are welcome to chip in towards these or bring their own to add. (if you want to drop some (or anything etc) off before the ride let me know)
Food, people can either chip in for take out or pick up whatever they fancy. My place is pretty close to almost any take out you could want. (Pizza, Chinese, Mcd's, BK, Wendys, KFC, Oporto)
As with all the 250 rides we dont tolerate stupid behaviour, the same applys in this case to firework safety afterwards. (As much as we might joke about setting fire to Warlock's Hyosung, I like to think that most members are intelligent enough not to take it seriously).

I'm guessing the BBQ and fireworks will have to be at someones place... I don't think its legal to set off fireworks in public places... like beaches etc
Sounds like a plan... weather pending I'm keen :)

Great idea! There is a place called shakespear park, about 30-40 min drive from Auckland. Im sure u can light up some fire works thea and they have BBQ machines 2:)
Cant say for sure that i'll come but if i'd be free i'll definitely tag alone;)

I have a reasonably good place for fireworks, but my BBQ is in a bit of an old rusty state, will talk to my neighbour tomorrow to see if he wants to join us if his BBQ is a goer (he's a biker too), (Im in Ellerslie).

Yeah thats a great place... do you live in the area? Maybe you could go check out the signs and see if they allow it... if so then we'd need to organise a cage to get the BBQ there and back lol

Its quite a long drive back in the dark for inexperianced riders though, and if the weather turns nasty it wouldnt be that great, someones place would be better,
As mentioned Im happy to have it at my place, just need to sort a better BBQ. My place would be on the way home for most people from the usual 250 ride routes, (except McJim as you cant get much closer then him).

So would this firewords thing just be for the 250 riders? Or will it be open to ALL KB'ers? I think if it's open there will be a bigger response

Its aimed at riders who come to the responsible 250 learner rides, so if you are prepared to come ride with us then sure, you are welcome, we have a few larger bikes that come on our ride a few times.
Note, as always dangerous behaviour isnt welcome on these rides, and that extends to the social function afterwards also in this case,

Ooooh, I do so want to go to this and bring along all my stash of fireworks and play with ( I can imagine what will happen, one of the dangling fuses hits my hot cans and then I'll be rocketing down the street past everyone ... before exploding into a cornucopia of crescending incandescent illuminations! ) :dodge:
Sounds a right goer this! Need to get that weather genie out for the night methinks Mav :msn-wink: No need for torches, the reflection from Warlock's ride will sort that out!
Now where did I put those incense sticks and my stash of illegally kewl fireworks? ( little rolling tanks, battleships you put in water and skyrockets that go up seriously high! ) :sunny: :innocent:

Its starting to pick up!
If there is anyone on a Full license or who knows someone who is trailing along in a cage, could you consider having Sam with you (Either as pillion or passanger in the cage)... she will be sad if she misses the fireworks... her birthday is on the 4th... so I'll make sure that she isn't too hungover... lol
I'm liking the idea of Shakespear Regional Park... but like Maverick said... its a bit far for the newbies to be riding back from in the dark... but still all good :)

Given that it will be after the 250 ride it wont be at Shakespeare, as it is on the other side of Auckland.
At this point it could be at my place, but no BBQ, however people could pitch in for Pizza or Fish and chips etc, (save people lugging around meat etc)
Alcohol would be BYO, I dont encourage drink driving.
Families are welcome to join us later after the ride.

Hey thanks for the offer...
Still not 100% sure what the plan is this weekend. Sam's brother is coming down for her birthday on Saturday.... if Sam gets her way i won't be well enough (hung over...) on Sunday to even consider riding anywhere...
I'll know closer to Sunday and will have to text Mav on Saturday night or Sunday morning to confirm... Chances are Sam won't come along if her brother stays long on Sunday... I'll confirm with Mav over the weekend :)

Great ride today Maverick, was great being your wingman and boosting down roads unknown - doing the circuit of Maraetai, Clevedon, Hunuas and back to McJim's abode and onto your desmesne was most excellent.
Cheers to McJim for allowing me to give his v-twin a quick blat around, vurry nice and a bonus at the end of the day! Had a quick blat down to Mission Bay - watched some fireworks being let off before the constabulary shut the pyrotechnic party done!

Part of me really regrets not making the 250 ride on 5th Nov but Faaaaark that Taupo full track rocks!
Did the commute to work this morning weary but felt more in control than usual - it's good to get a bit closer to the limits of your bike - allows you to fling it around a bit more.
Feel really guilty about R6 kid talking of new 250 dedicated riders and I didn't bother my arse turning up eh? Shame on me.

Er...um...yeah - like - it's got a 2 litre Turbocharged engine and lots of little computers telling the wheels when to stop and when to go and really fucken short service intervals and costs about 20 times the price of a 250cc used motorcycle so fuck yeah, it might just keep up with a 250cc imported bike with a Learner on it coz it only needs a moron behind the wheel to keep it on the road at insane speeds (the car does all the work not the driver) whereas the bike requires talent, precision and guts.

Now now ... be nice ... keep the scotsman in the cage (not a reference to cars).
Hes a young lad and dosn't know the joy of dragging off a tricked out car at the lights on a 250 .. :Punk:

Man you suited being on the 250, seriously man i think you need to go back to your roots....come on admit it - you had a blast on that thing.
Haha, i'd be lying if i said otherwise mate. The 'lack' of power makes them so much easier to throw around yet they still have the balls to get you to licence losing speeds!
If i had cash i'd get another 250, but I sincerely love the feeling of the 600 on the track - The compromise is a 250 two stroke, which im seriously considering but i aint selling the 600 any time soon!

Cheers to everyone who came along, I'm glad people enjoyed the ride, attached is the route for those interested. Now I just have to start planning the next one, maybe even somewhere out west perhaps.
Glad we had no bins this time, and the weather geanie even managed to beat the Guy Fawkes curse!

Should do coastal to Kaiaua, only regroups between BP and Kaiaua and same on the way home (possible different route)... then you once the usuals have some stamina you should look at attacking the 'coro loop' with a 250 ride.

HAHA, watch the video first mate :dodge: But honestly, its not the car its the driver...

Haha, nothing beats duct tape and foam packing!, wasnt shaky at all thanks to the camera having a super steady shot mode, but it does show some of the more serious bumps quite well, also the sound wasnt muffled by the wind this time which is an added bonus!

I would be keen to give the coro loop a go, havent been there on a motorbike but i can tell it would be nothing short of mint...brakes and tyres pending.
