Trouble is the interweb thing is $hite in this country so it doesn't work properly until daft o'clock in the morning when all the kiddies have stopped surfing. The motogp subscription thingie is well worth the 24 euro's or whatever it costs, plus if you trust yer mates you can tell them the username and password so they can watch too.

Of course, the other alternative is just to download the races on bittorrent.

Wrong. The only factor that determines whether it is shown on Sun or Monday night is what timezone the country of the race is in. Valencia is 11 hrs behind NZ. The race starts at Sun 2pm which will be NZ 1am Mon morning so that kind of makes it difficult to show on a Sunday night doesn't it? Prime even shows races on a Sat night when they can!

Good on Prime for going to all the trouble to reschedule it on a weekly basis just so we can see it as soon as viable instead of taking the easy option and showing it in a permanent slot early/midweek.

I'm quite surprised at the responses to this, and I fully support the original poster's opinion. As far as I'm concerned Prime can piss off and then SKY can buy the rights. Then we would get it live and no doubt the qualifying too. Just as what happened with F1 when it moved from normal tv to SKY. Having to avoid all media everywhere to not hear the results beforehand (especially given the magnitude of the race) is a huge nuisance and difficult.

As my friend says about this:
It's like with Prime...
"man, I hate the fact that that guy keeps kicking me in the guts"
and you guys are all:
"Ha! Just be happy he's not kicking you in the face!"

Frankly, that just doesn't work.

There is almost no point in putting it on the next day. For those of us that are really into it, especially when it is down to a nail biter finish like this one, there is no way you can get through the day on Monday without some tossa who doesn't give a shit about it telling you what happens. A big thumbs down to Prime. It is bad enough having delayed coverage all year but with the championship coming down to the last race they should have made the effort to put it on Sunday night

Unfortunately you need a high speed broadband connection to be able to watch it on the internet. I can't get broadband where I live. I know someone who watches it at a friends house but even then it doesn't always work. They were all sitting round in the middle of the night to watch the last race and it didn't work.

Job done.

Alternatively (since Prime TV won't listen to you) I'll come round to your house, render you unconcious, change all the clocks in your house, put a little sticker with the word "live" on the top right hand corner of your telly and wake you up when coverage is about to start.

Those complaining obviously haven't been watching motogp that long and need a history lesson I think. Let me tell you a story from "The Chronicles of Kiwibiker".

In the beginning there was Motogp. This was shown live and replayed on Sky (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=200&highlight=motogp+sky) and all were happy. EDIT corrected thanks Gav

Then one day Sky lost the contract to MotoGP and stopped showing it altogether. No amount of wailing from the people could change this. (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=1646&highlight=motogp+sky) Now MotoGP was no longer viewable on any New Zealand TV except as a summary on Shell Helix sport many weeks later. There was much sadness in the land of Kiwibiker.

This lead to the Dark Ages where the only way one could watch a MotoGP race was by live webcast or by downloading a 250MB video that was posted by KB members who had paid access to the motogp site. (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/search.php?query=motogp+wmv+spoilers&searchuser=&exactname=0&starteronly=0&forumchoice=0&childforums=1&titleonly=0&showposts=0&searchdate=0&beforeafter=after&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=ascending&replyless=0&replylimit=0&searchthread=0&searchthreadid=0&saveprefs=1&quicksearch=0&searchtype=1&exclude=&nocache=0&ajax=0) Not everyone could manage this download so there was much swapping of CDs and MotoGP nights where fans would gather together to watch the race. Times were grim.

Then out of the blue Prime TV came along and purchased the MotoGP rights (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=4909) much to everyones suprise. The races were now shown the same or following evening. All were happy again and much goodwill and praise was given to Prime (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=4924)from the citizens of Kiwibiker. Peace and happiness returned to Kiwibiker and they lived happily ever after!

So although I agree that it would be nice to have live motogp, I would still refrain from shitting on the hand that feeds us as things could be a lot more worse than it could be better.

Prime started off very well. The GPs were mostly live. Then they started advertising them as live when in fact they were delayed by two hours. Then they started messing with the order in which they played the GPs. Then they dropped 125s and 250s then they started playing the GPs on Monday (sometimes Tuesday and a couple of times they "forgot" to show them at all - oval ball sports instead you see) nights while still advertising them as live.

A short letter to the advertising standards authority seemed to fix that.

If you are going to delay the broadcast, make it at a sane time the following weeked. Don't impose a news blackout on a few people for 24 hours.

I tried to pay for the MotoGP site, but I don't have a Credit Card. They won't take any other for of payment. "Policy" is the excuse I believe. So I steal it off Bit Torrent BEFORE it is on Prime most of the time.

Prime will be able to look at viewer figures for the last year, say, quite rightly, that viewership of MotoGP has fallen to uneconomic levels and dump it altogether. It interferes with oval ball sport broadcasts you see.

A most excellent post Hoon, and perhaps a timely lesson for those who see the glass as half empy. It's all about ratings and public response- they are trying to run a business and turn a profit after all. When Prime first announced that they were showing the MotoGP, many forward thinking KBers sent them emails. They were quite surprised at the large response they got and were sure they were onto a good thing. We have collectively dropped the bal.... erm... missed a gear shift, no doubt they are not hearing from us and the ratings show few people are watching. The easiest way to ensure MotoGP remains free to air is to send them a POLITE email, saying ta very much for showing the MotoGP, we really appreciate it etc etc, is there any chance of screening it live again? As I write this KB has 5,659 members. If Prime were to recieve 500 or so emails, thanking them very much for showing the MotoGP this season, and saying we very much hope they will show it next year etc etc, it would go a long way.

As far as I'm concerned, if Sky got the rights for the MotoGP again it would be a disaster. Sure not everyone can get Prime, but to watch it on Sky means forking out well over $50 a month

Motig

Quite right TonyB. I've always sent them a Thanks each year since they started coverage and before the season starts send another to check if they'll be showing it again. That is the scary bit.............
Sky made a commercial decision a few years ago to axe MotoGP coverage. So WHY will they now think it is commercially viable??????????????

It must be highly probable that you and I (and and the whingers) may end up with no TV coverage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that what Prime is showing is definitely better than nothing, BUT this is the first time in years that the championship has come down to the last round. The suspense is awesome. The only problem being that there is no F####N way that you will be able to get through Monday without finding out what has happened. It takes all the thrill out of watching it. How many people would watch a delayed coverage of the Rugby World Cup if the results had already been on the news ?????

Anyone notice how Sky has started switching the WSBK between channels? Race 1 will be on SS2 and race 1 @ 2.30pm will be different channel, so you can't setup the video and tape it. I'm sure ther reply would be buy a MySky and all your problems will be solved. Umm, no thanks...
I think Sky prefer to show the edited package of the race programme, live coverage can drag on if it starts raining, or theres some crashes etc.
