Fuck yeah. Just about any accident caused by somebody reversing warrants a charge of careless use.

Colapop
25th October 2006, 19:27
Nah mate there's still no excuse for that. Sorry about the accident but at least it can be and will (We'll see - sorry for the cynicism) be fixed.

Oh shit man that hurts. Right when your in the middle of the new bike "Oh fuck its got a tiny stone chip" stage, some bimbo backs over it with a cage. I'm feeling for ya..

I CAN'T SAY THIS ENOUGH.

PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.
PARK ON THE FOOTPATH.

It makes no difference how wide the space. I've had a guy walk right past my bike before getting into his egg beater suzuki 4x4 and backed into my SV650. Now I never park in the park spaces if I have to be more than a couple of feet away from it.

:gob: Oh...my....lord.... That is totally heinous! And here's stupid me parking in car parking spaces without thinking about that scenario (newb newb newbie!) I will learn from this and park my bike on the footpath (cheers Spanky!)

I can't believe you're handling it so well - I feel gutted just reading your post and gives me chills just thinking about it! $1000? Lets hope thats all the damage that was done, I hope you won't be too paranoid about all the little things you think are "Wrong" due to the inane actions of the driver!

Hope you get your ride back ASAP and get out to some open roads!

Man, that would surely make you feel sick  :(

Like Terbang said, right smack in the middle of the new bike phase where every teeny chip or dirty blow fly makes you cringe. Then some twerp comes and squashes it. Hope that's the last of it and smooth sailing from here on in.

ouch, sorry to hear Spank....
Question is tho... it may save your bike, but isant it somewhat illegal?
cant you get fined or towed for parking on a footpath?

Dadpole
25th October 2006, 20:37
Was that Master-town or Welly-town?
I know the parking bastards in Masterton would love to find bike on the footpath

SpankMe
25th October 2006, 20:39
Only ever got one ticket, and that was years ago in Hamilton. So long as you're not in anyones way, it shouldn't be a problem.

There's always someplace, somewhere nearby, out of the way of people and cages where you can park ya bike.

Yeah, in Auckland they would likely tow it as well for blocking the footpath.
Imagine coming out of a shop and seeing your pride and joy dangling from some towies hook as he crawls down the road gloating at your misfortune.

That's got to be nearly as bad as some old trout having a poke at it with her differential??

How can you get away with parking on the footpath??

Ixion
25th October 2006, 20:43
Well, I always park on the footpath (or some similar place). Been doing so for 40 years and haven't had a ticket stick yet. Had plenty of cops and parking wardens drive and walk past.

Be considerate though, don't plonk your bike smack bang in the middle of the path where people will fall over it. If you look around you can always spot a place where people wont walk anyway - between street furniture, the recesses between buttresses on buildings ,side of a bus shelter etc. Where you can park and not be an impediment. There's always something suitable within 20 foot or so

Prolly illegal, yeah, but so is speeding.

I do it all the time, ie the shore has no bike parks so I park on the footpath out of the way by the planter boxes etc and have had the parking warden walk past a few times without batting an eyelid

Then don't block the footpath! Plenty of room on most to park ya bike without getting in anyones way.

 I think we need to post pictures with captions to illustrate this! I did in in Wellywood when I was down there and it was sweet as. When I'm in Dorkland, I just park it down by the Auckland Library since I only hang out in Borders.

Easy, Because a cop is looking for you , most other people are looking for friends or doing makeup.

Unlucky eh mate. Lady backed into my bike today as well and it wAS on the footpath. Doing a 3 point turn. Alarm went off which probably stopped her carrying on and climbing right on top of the thing. Gaaaah!!

As Spankme says, park your bike on the footpath, usually people dont hit them.....usually.

Hell Tauranga crew that show up to the pub park on the footpath everythursday night. Not one of us has gotten a ticket yet (granted the parking wardens have buggerd off by the time we got there.

Just make sure it's out of everyones way, as if you wouldn't anyway, and you'll be sweet.

Sorry to hear about your bike man. Glad it is nothing too drastic and is mainly cosmetic. I guess it doesn't make anyone feel any better though.

As for the excuse of not seeing it - I find that hard to accept. I think most motorists can see things if they LOOK FOR THEM. I've heard the "didn't see..." bullshit before. From above by the lady looking down at me (as I was lying bleeding on the road) after turning right in front of me and I was immediately in front of her.

Good luck with all your repairs.
