Coeliac Disease

Oldest son (7) has just had diagnosis confirmed via biopsy.

Do any other KBers have kids with Coeliac?

If so, I'd like to get in touch.

in tolerence to gluten is more comon than people realise....but theres heaps of info out there about it on the interweb thingy...



Ps:no I don't have it....just knew someone for a good portion of my life with it...

Plenty of gluten free foods available in Supermarkets, Health Food Shops...may be worth looking at amino acids too as some can help as well.

Gini and I have learnt a whole lot about the medical side of it all. As a Type-I diabetic I'm well aware of finding out medical information.

What we're really interested in is the day-to-day life; how parents are coping with having one kid who's coeliac and three other kids who aren't...

and I know Tim would like to have someone to communicate with about this too.

A guy I worked with up until yesterday has a young family - 2 under 5 1 is coeliac and the other just gluten intolerant. They have adapted to the problem by going totally Gluten free. He has said how much better he feels as well so he was possibley a bit intolerant as well. It was a very expensive life style change as he is ultra carfeful on what he buys and he said it can increase the food bills by as much as 1/3.

Hi Man.
My wife and 7 year old daughter are both at least gluten intolerant. We haven't bothered with biopsy cos it absolutely gallops in my wife's family. I knew I shouldn't have married a Hillbilly.:lol:
We are mostly all gluten free now (three kids plus ma n pa) but us non-gimpies have our own bread and other bits n bobs.
My girl has amazed me with how well she has adapted. We have found some good substitute flour for baking and Hell Pizza do mean gluten free pizza. The hardest thing for my girl is birthday parties, staying over with friends and other gatherings but we pack her a baggy of her own treats and she does ok.
I'm more than happy to catch up sometime. If the weather get's it's act together y'all will have to come round for a gluten free barby. I'll put you on my buddy list so you can get my details.

Yes Riffer, most of our family (Including me) has "Gluten intolerance" which leads to "Celiac disease" if not treated or controlled by diet.
