Do you know or see the guy who rides a yellow vtr firestorm every week day to auckland cbd from almost the end of the north western motorway? Are you wondering why you haven't seen him lately? My friends dad (the rider of said motorcycle) was taken out by a rav 4 on ngapipi road(sp), near mission bay he is in hospital and has broken his pelvis in four places, shattered his wrist and has other injuries. He will be in auckland hospital for a long time, he is in traction for a minimum of 2 months. The rav lost control on one of the corners and slid sideways into his lane, there was no avoiding it and he slammed into the side of the rav, unfortunatly he also went into the side of teh rav instead of going over the top. this accident happened at 50kph, just a reminder of how much damage can be done even at slow speeds.

Sorry to hear that! I think that's the bike Tim,(Classic_Z), did some servicing on recently? Bad news and yeah, a god reminder how vulnerable we are to out of control cages!
All the best, broken bones hurt!

I really hate RAV 4s. I've never seen a competantly driven one yet. My commiserations to your friend's dad. That's a very very hard thing to avoid, no matter how careful and defensive a rider you are.

how the fuck does a full-time 4wd lose control on an urban road at 50km/h?

Ngapipi Rd , from memory, is very steep with some quite sharp corners on it. Ive seen cages do all manner of things. Do the RAV have ABS? 4WD won't stop a muppet panicing and locking all four wheels on a wet sharp downhill corner ?

This is why off-road vehicles should be banned from tarmac roads.
The Rav 4 is a particular case though - it's shit on AND off road - neither one thing nor the other by trying to be both.
Cagers should make a decision -am I going on road or off road and buy the appropriate vehicle. I farken hate people with 4x4 off roaders that never take them off road.
Hope the guy makes a full recovery - sounds like uncomfortable injuries there.
