FXR 150 Is this a good learers bike?

Does/has anyone out there own/d a fxr 150? and what are they like to ride? Is it true that the rear tyre has really poor grip?

they are a great bike to learn on. Fuel economy awesome, easy maintenance.

They aint fast, but keep up with cars, sit at 100kph okay, with a top speed of around 140ish.

issues:
- standard tyres are downright dangerous - do not trust in greasy conditions. Replace with Pirelli MT75's, or Bridgestone BT39ss.
- speedo reads way optimistic (up to 10-15kph)
- headlight is poor
- mirrors are crap (well unless you're built like Kate Moss)

but as a cheap learner/commuter - hard to beat

It is vitally important when getting a FXR150 to never have ridden another bike before otherwise you will realise that it's gutless.

I borrowed one for a laugh the other day after being on my VTR250 (which I consider to be modestly powered) I couldn't believe the lack of torque or power - dangerous in corners - there's nothing there to pull you out of a corner - invest in an RG150 instead - much more fun but a bit more temperamental.

It is fine as a learner as I said as long as you have not experienced any other bikes first.

But yea, they do seem to be abit light on the arse, but unless ur trying to ride like a motogp rider then you should be fine lol.

The stock tyre are really shite, so I would change them. I still have the stock front and a Nylon rear :S

i found a Kawasaki KRR150ZX on trademe and it seams pretty cool for a first bike, any more suggestions out there would be great.

Mrs P has one, and I ride it from time-to-time. It's great fun! So small, light, and cheap to run. Easy to ride, and has gear position indicator which is handy when starting out. Hell, it even hauls my lardy arse at motorway speeds no problems. Just don't try any optimistic overtakes...

The lights pop all the time, but seldom all at once. You can get uprated 35/35W bulbs, which are a slight improvement over the 25/25W ones. Make sure you have spares - they are easy to change and cheap. And unless you're fatalistic, change the stock tyres for less suicidal rubber! Our wee FXR sticks nicely on Pirelli MT75 rubber.

Buy and enjoy - way better than a GN250 IMHO. :yes:

KRR150 is an awesome learners bike, I learned on mine and ive found it great. Just be careful not to go nuts with your wrist until you've got the hang of the bike.

Put Pirellis on it and it's a whole new bike. Grreat fun in the twisties. I've never had an issue with the rear end. I've been over the takas countless times on mine.

That said, If I were to do it all again knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have bought the FXR. It's slow and fairings are expensive to fix, but you have that problem with any sports bike. I'd pick the KR, just make sure the engines in good condition
