Greetings all
For those of you that dont know us we are just ordinary average Kiwis with an interesting idea.

Carissa is 31, and I am 34, we have one daughter and we have to work together as a family starting with the very basics and work our way through this adventure through what we expect to have, many ups and downs.

What an amazing journey it will be, it will be a life changing experience for both of us, but to us the most amazing thing we can hopefully achieve is if we can help just one person improve their life a little.
We have never been part of anything like this, the closest we have ever been to anything like this is watching it on TV, but then it dawned on us, 'Why watch it on TV, when we can LIVE it?"

Please help Carissa and I in the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER.
8000 New Zealanders die of cancer related diseases each year!
We are determined and committed to reducing that statistic - but we need your help.

Carissa and I will Ride around the entire New Zealand Coastline on our Suzuki Adventure Bikes, raising money for The Hawkes Bay Centre Cancer Society and their Hawkes Bay Relay for Life event!
We are expecting this to be perhaps New Zealand's Greatest Motorcycle Adventure in 2007.

So why a Motorbike adventure ride?
We came up with the Riding for Relay for Life idea from a discussion of ways that could challenge us, and really appreciate what Cancer Sufferers must be challenged with every day.

So I can see you thinking "That's not hard to do", here is some facts to put it into a little more perspective.

1. "Carissa has never ridden motorcycles before, and I have only ever ridden off-road".

2. " We will complete the journey on 250cc motorcycles, not really made for comfort or long journeys".

3. " The Journey will be approximately 7000km, and we plan to complete this within 14 riding days (we will need rest days along the way)"

Now this is what we would call an epic adventure for us, we will be way out of our comfort zone (but really looking forward to it now), and that this is something that maybe just the thing to get others out and about and exploring this magnificent country we have.
The journey is not all tar sealed highways, we detour to places like the East Coast Lighthouse (New Zealand's most Eastern Point), Cape Reinga (Most Northern Point) and Ninety Mile Beach, Golden Bay, Bluff (Most Southern Point) , Danseys Pass and the McKenzie Basin and Molesworth Station etc, so there will be lots of rough roads and dust and dirt to contend with, not to mention the bad weather we also may have to contend with, but in all reality the things we are looking forward to the most is New Zealand's beautiful places we see and people that we will meet.

Please support us as we ride around New Zealand prior to the Relay For Life.
When we finish riding around New Zealand we then start walking in the relay for Life event.
Relay For Life is a 24 hour team event that raises funds for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. We are part of a team that will walk/run around a track for 24 hours. As well as taking part our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for our local Cancer Society.
We are making a financial and physical commitment to this event - and challenge you to match my commitment by sponsoring us.

You have 3 options for supporting us on this adventure, and we would ideally love to see you all on Option 2
1. You can sponsor us 1 cent for every km we plan to ride - $70 (7000km) - If you sponsor us for every km we ride, you will be mentioned on our webpage, as well as a personal update from us on our journey.

2. Now we would also like to involve as many motorcyclists with a sense of adventure as we can, before, during and of course after the event, so we are offering you the opportunity to 'tag along' on all or part of the trip. Visit our webpage www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information on how you can join us. (see attached poster)

3. We would be delighted to receive any contribution you can make.

Visit our webpage at www.rideforlife.co.nz for more information

If you are in Hawkes Bay, please call in and see us finish at Tareha Reserve (Carters Arms Park) in Taradale on the 24th February 2007
If you see us on the road in your area, please stop and say hello, we would be delighted to meet you all!

Thanks for your support, wish us luck and please pass this website link on to all your friends, family, suppliers and workmates.

Regards
Scott & Carissa McIsaac

Hey everyone

Yes when the website is running there will be a route plan with start and finish places and times and dates.
Also it is for all bikes, we will list the days where it probably doesnt suit thos bikes (and riders) that dont want to venture onto gravel :)

We are surprised and overwhelmed by the offers of accommodation when we ride on through, this is really appreciated and wherever possible we will take you up on the offers of a bed for the night. We need to shave allot of the costs associated with this ride, as the entire proceeds from the fundraising will go directly to the Cancer Society.
There will be one or two extra in a support vehicle too (if we can find a van and someone to drive it for the duration)

Our early plan is as follows (subject to change)
3rd Feb - Napier to Hicks Bay (East Cape Lighthouse)
4th Feb - Hicks Bay to Whitianga
5th Feb - Whitianga to Russell
6th Feb - REST DAY
7th Feb - Russell to Kaitaia (via Ninety Mile Beach)
8th Feb - Kaitaia to Auckland
9th Feb - REST DAY
10th Feb - Auckland to New Plymouth (Via the Coast)
11th Feb - New Plymouth to Wellington
12th Feb - REST DAY and Cook Strait
13th Feb - Picton to Westport
14th Feb - Westport to Franz J
15th Feb - Franz J to Queenstown (Up Cardrona Skifield Road)
16th Feb - REST DAY
17th Feb - Queenstown to Te Anau (Milford Sound)
18th Feb - Te Anau to Dunedin (Bluff)
19th Feb - Dunedin to Christchurch
20th Feb - REST DAY
21st Feb - Christchurch to Picton (via Molesworth)
22nd Feb - Picton to Masterton (via Cape Palliser)
23rd Feb - REST DAY
24th Feb - Masterton to Napier - 313km

There's actually an event happening at the moment down here, was talking to a bloke from Oxford today who had ridden through to link up with 20 other bikes that had done the southern half of the island and were heading North towards Nelson.

He was on a silver/blue GT750 Kawasaki with ride for life stickers plastered all over it, and when the main group passed through Rakaia they had a full mix of bikes and 3 support vehicles, one of which was towing a trailer with a very sad looking blue R1 on board.

Doing a damn good job, but they'd picked a fairly brisk day to be clocking up the Kms today:yes:

How about a little competition?

Lets see which city can provide the biggest escort into their respective city :)

The Cities are
Auckland (Thursday 8th Feb 2007)
Wellington (Sunday 11th Feb 2007)
Dunedin (Sunday 18th Feb 2007)
Christchurch (Monday 19th Feb 2007)

Lets see if we can get 100 motorcycles at least too one of these?
We will use our media contacts to try and get some good coverage of the biggest turn out :)

Just checked out your website and have to ask the question - who's Alana? You say that Possum Bourne was so inspirational to you as a family and really influenced Alana and her passion for motorsport but I can't see any other mention of her and I'm nosy! Is she your daughter?

Good luck with the ride, it would be great if you could raise an amount like Nathan Blackler, a soldier from Linton who raised $60,000 for child cancer on a fundraising walk in NZ while in remission from cancer himself. Linton Military Camp is holding a big fundraiser/monter garage sale/carnival for his family on December 2, if anyone is interested in going along.

Hi
Alana is our daughter, she is 16 and mad on motorsport :)
Whilst she cant yet ride on the road, she will be coming along for the South Island leg of our journey in the support vehicle.
We would love to be able to give the Cancer Society as much as we possibly can.

Hi Jonathon

We really appreciate your kind comments and offer :)
Rather than just the donation we would prefer to have as many riders such as yourself join in on the ride if the dates suit? (These details will be available soon on the website)
We would really love to get a HUGE escort into the city, as it would be beneficial to both the Cancer Society but also for motorcyclists in general.
The more media coverage we get for this event the more we can tell the public about our cause and also to keep an eye out for motorcyclists.

Cheers

Hi there elle33f

Thanks for you offer
We are having a rest day in Masterton on the 23rd too, with a planned ride to Castlepoint.
We will probably have a bit of a shindig down there somewhere as a celebration too :)
Then its the final ride to the finish line on the Sat, it will be a late start to allow for riders from Wellington, Hawkes Bay & Manawatu to get to Masterton and join in for the final ride. We want as many riders for this as we can ;)

Ok so the website is not working properly so I have decided to add the info here :)

Everything you need to know on how to join us on this amazing journey:

How to Sign Up (until the website is operational)
1. See below for the route and decide which trip option you would like to attend (Entire Ride, North Island, South Island, Two Days, One day or the Final Day ride)

2.If you are riding a Road bike, please click on the dates to ensure that this leg of the adventure caters for you.

3.N/A - Website only If you are selecting the ONE DAY tour option, please check here to ensure that the dates you prefer are still available. If the date you prefer is RED, this means the day is fully booked, if it is ORANGE is almost full, and if it is GREEN it is good to book. (Dont worry about the colours yet)

4.N/A - Website only -For TWO DAY tours please click on the first day you would like to join us, if this date is RED, it means the tours are booked out, if it is ORANGE is almost full, and if it is GREEN it is good to book.

5.Then go to this website (http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/booking/)

6.Another website (in New Zealand) will open, follow this process making sure you enter the minimum amount (if you pay a little more that would be fantastic!)

7.You will receive a receipt number, then you need to copy it or write this number down

8.Then close this window and enter your receipt number in the required field

9.Then you are almost done.

10.Then send an email to ride@rideforlife.co.nz with your name and receipt number.

11.You will then receive an email with regular updates and information regarding your leg of the adventure.

12.The first thing you should do once you receive this email if you have selected the ONE DAY or TWO DAY tour option is to book which dates and days you would like to travel with us as we will restrict the amount of riders we can have.

"Whilst we would love to have as many riders as possible join us, we must restrict the number of riders that can attend

"Preference will be given in order to the ENTIRE tour riders, then NORTH or SOUTH Island Riders, then TWO day and finally ONE day riders.

"There are a number of spots available exclusively for Learner Riders for all tour options.

"There are also a number of spots available for Suzuki Motorcycle Riders for all tour options.

"A current NZ drivers licence must be held by the rider

"Pillion passengers are ok (a donation is requested but not an expectation for these pillion passengers)

"Must have the necessary insurance

DAY 1 Saturday 3rd February
Napier to Hicks Bay
Distance = 450km
Road Conditions - Mostly Tarseal - There is a gravel road to the East Cape Lighthouse, this is an option for those that wish to ride to the lighthouse.

We depart Napier and head up the rugged East Cape through Wairoa and Gisborne, we continue north before arriving in Te Araroa where we detour into an unsealed, no-exit road to the most Easterly point on mainland New Zealand. We make a visit to the historic East Cape lighthouse, which stands 154 metres above sea level and is accessed by a walking track of some 700 steps - worth it for the views at the top. The road to the lighthouse clings to the coastline - there are numerous sandy beaches just metres away. Then we head back to Te Araroa where we hope time will allow us to visit Te Waha-o-Rerekohu - New Zealand's most ancient pohutukawa tree. We then leave this magical area and continue to our final destination on the first day of the Adventure - Hicks Bay

DAY 2 Sunday 4th February
Hicks Bay to Coromandel
Distance = 440km
Road Conditions - Mostly Tarseal, with options for Gravel riding in Coromandel.

We start the day travelling down the magnificent East Coast, through towns such as Waihau Bay and Te Kaha before reaching the Bay of Plenty.
We will pass through Opotiki and Whakatane, and stop to take on fuel and refreshments if we need to before continuing on to the Kiwifruit capital of the World and Mt Maunganui / Tauranga
Then it's back onto the bikes and continue the trek north to the Coromandel. The Coromandel's landscapes are hugely varied - from the dead flat Hauraki Plains to the rugged peaks of the ranges; from the crashing surf of the east coast to the tranquil bays on the Firth of Thames. Just before we reach Whitianga, those on the more adventurous bikes can follow us through the 309 road, which is a nice gravel road that crosses the ranges before dropping into Coromandel for a well deserved rest.

DAY 3 Monday 5th February
Coromandel to Russell
Distance = 440km
Road Conditions - Tarseal all the way today

We start the day with a short ride south, following the Coastline along the Firth of Thames before making our way along the Western side of the Firth of Thames through Orere and Clevedon before we hit the thriving metropolis of Auckland. No stopover here unless it is for refreshments and fuel. Then it's up to Northland, via the Auckland Harbour Bridge and through Warkworth and Wellsford. Then it's through Whangarei before reaching our stopover in Russell which was New Zealand's first capital and a well deserved day off tomorrow.

Good to see it's all coming together mate. I suspect I'm going to get made redundant in January so I can't make any plans for Feb, but hopefully I'll be able to hook up for part of the ride, maybe even a whole island if the gods of unemployment are smiling on me.

Hey there

That would be fantastic.
I would love you and John to lead us into Hastings if you can join us on the final day, seeing you are Suzuki Riders and all :) and given us the time of day and actually rode with us from the start
Something we really appreciate

The last day we want to showcase motorcycling to the public by trying to attract at least 100 riders and have a full escort into Napier :)

We will have meeting places for riders to tag along in
Masterton
Pahiatua
Dannevirke
Waipukurau

You will need to pre register for the final day though

Bookings can now be made on our website www.rideforlife.co.nz (the costs and details will be found on the first link, under the tag along riders page)

We have all road bikes booked for the entire trip at the moment, so it would be good to have an 'adventure bike" for part or all of it

I have spoken to John, in passing, and we will see what happens. I am keen for the first and last day. Probably only to Gisborne on the way up as we would have to return home same day.

Some preplanned pick up points would be great. Sure some K/B club members would sort this out in their own towns. Maybe get the Suzuki dealers on the job and the local papers.

Have you contact NZ on air? We had good coverage of the 4X4 rally on TV 3 so I am sure if you and Suzuki NZ pushed the point hard enough you could get some good TV coverage. Even a Doco made.

Hi all

Just a quick update on our Ride around NZ charity event :)

We are not too far away from it now, just have to sort a few more things out.
There is a number of riders that have decided to do the entire ride with us, so that is good to know that not only will be have some company along the way, but also they are helping others out that are much less fortunate than us.Three cheers to them:first:
We have raised about $2000 to date, so we are well under way for our $10k target.
We will really wind the fundraising campaign up in the first week of January

The booking page is now up and running on the website for those that want to tag along with us.
For those of you that cant/dont want to ride, please make a donation to the event either via credit card on our site, or make a deposit into the bank account listed in the post further up :)

Have a very safe and enjoyable Xmas and New Year

I'm guessing that buy the time you reach Levin it will be about lunch time. If you like we will put on a BBQ. You guys and anyone who wants to tag along for the last hour into Welly can meet up here, have a snarler, a cuppa and use the dunny. We'll shout the snarlers and the cuppa.

I am trying to work out which part of the ride I can join you on......
I'm based in Auckland and can meet you for the ride thru Auckland on the 5th Feb and would like to join you for the legs on 7 feb and 8 feb (Russel, Kaitaia, Auckland). Have you got spaces then?

I can't afford to take 4 days off in one lump so have to do this in a couple of bites.

Is there anything you want done?

Earlier you mentioned info about the ninety mile beach part, do you want me to sort that out?

Scott,
I will look after the 90 mile beach bit...all I need is some local knowledge!!!

I am assuming you are traveling from Coromandel to Thames, across the bottom of the Firth and up the opposite coast to Auckland rather than heading inland to the southern motorway.
If so, I would meet you on that coast, say at Miranda? Thats about 1 hour from Coromandel. I can happily act as a guide to the city if thats neccessary and would see you on your way after the harbour bridge.
Let me know if there is anything you want / need done.....

Anyway, I will get signed up for the legs on the 7th and 8th.

Hi Iain

Thanks a million for you offer, we would especially love an escort around the coast and through Auckland!
That is the one part of the trip we are not really looking forward to, and that is riding on Auckland Motorways

The one thing that we dont know for each day is arrival times, as there are a few riders coming for the entire trip now, there will be things that we will stop at etc along the way.

Miranda will be a good meeting point but I think we will need to txt or call you from somewhere to avoid you waiting around for us

Thanks again

Hi Scott,
Finally got everything signed up for the 7th & 8th!!!

Couple of queries:
5th: No problem meeting you somewhere on the Thames coast, I will make sure I am at Miranda by 9.00am and will wait for you. I'm always ready to sit around in the sun....

5th: Following the coast up to Auckland...no problems. I suggest we then do a bit of a suburban meander and end up following the city coastline (city beaches) into the central city, then on to the motorway and follow the northern motorway out of town - SH1.
This is probably 30 minutes longer than getting on the motorway at the first chance but it's a neat way to enter the city.
Let me know on the day if neccessary.
If you want to stop in the city let me know and we can adjust the route to suit.

90 mile beach...nearly sorted, just seeking some local advice.

8th & 9th: If anyone needs accomodation in Auckland we have tons of space available....15mins from centre.

Anything else, let me know.

just a query for anyone in the whakatane area who would like to support the cause but cant make the ride.i have approached management at Harvey Norman Whakatane who have agreed to supply a BBQ at their store on the
morning of the 4th of feb to help raise funds for the ride.they will supply the food at no cost and all proceeds will go towards this cause.it could also be a quik refreshment stop for riders heading north
the problem we have is we need a couple of volunteers to help setup and run the BBQ......can anyone out there help???

absolutely brilliant, when around the coast in taranaki you have to stop off at the local beach home for cancer sufferers and families named after a courageuos fighter and the family who organised it's building of,called house for karen,it's on the coast by rahotu,a house for families to get away, and supported by local business people etc, only bad part was when thehouse was transported to the site and had no security system some f..ken lowlifes broke in and stole lcd tvs, stereos etc.also can we sign up for ride via internet deposit, very keen on the taranaki leg, would love to be at the end in napier to greet you, have done the survivors walk in palmy last year and believe me if there is a good side to having cancer, taking part in the survivors walk was emotionally brilliant, very hard not to shed a few tears of joy when people are applauding as you walk around the track with your wife/family and supporters, may the great weather shine on you and have a fun trip, cheers tony.:third:

Well they are off. I went as far as Gisborne today. The other rider headed for Hicks Bay

We had 8 bikes to Gisborne. There I had to leave them and head for home. We had an overcast day as we headed out of Napier.
That was after the support Van was sent to the Ford shop for repairs to a leaking radiator hose.

A few spots of rain as we hit the motorway. Some heavy rain as we got closer to Wairoa. The oil and shit washing out of the road surface made riding a challenge. Well done to everyone. The weather broke as we hit Wairoa and the sun almost peaked out as we stood around the gas station. As a few tried to dry out most put on warm liners and things as the rain clouds looked heavy to the North.

We set out from Wairoa on dry roads and little traffic. That soon changed and the rain set in again. Wet roads, and all degrees of rain accompanied us to Gisborne. However as before the rain was gone when we pulled in to town. Filled up with gas and contacted the support crew. They were only half an hour behind us at this stage. It was time for me to head back to Napier. I have to admit it was hard to say goodbye after riding with this group. Great people and they are going to have a great adventure. With the shaking of hands and a few friendly comments I hit the road home.

I can imagine sitting on the deck outside the Hicks Bay motel drinking a few cold ones. Kinda wish I was there. So till the 24th I wish you all a safe and happy trip.

Only a short write up from me cos I was only on the ride a short time. Make the effort to catch this group when they come to a town close to you. They all rock man.

Ummm why did it cost $1.23 more to fill the bike when I went from Gisborne to Wairoa than on the way up from Wairoa to Gisborne? Strange really........:innocent: .......

wow now that was one kooooool ride.
big meet at the carters arms, intro's all round and putting names to faces seemed the best way to start.
8 bikes left and we were awayyyy.made good time to wairoa for a quik stop and gasup.i have to say that we have one beautiful country weather it be wet or fine.the roads along the east coast were great and we were travelling at a pace where we could just enjoy the views.
gisborne was the next break and was sad to see one of the crew leave us,so we were now down to 7 bikes.cheers gixxer, was nice meeting you.
this was my first time along this coast from napier and i now know what i have been missing.we stopped at tokomaru bay as i went to fill up i just happened to ask the girl behind the counter where the next gas station is,her reply was...'we're the only one along the coast'.this had me worried as the range on th VN was limited to 170km before reserve.i knew there was one in omaio but unsure what was before that.when we left tokomaru bay we went thru te puia springs and guess what....there was a gas station, that girl at the last stop just didnt have a clue.
we got to te araroa and well ill be!!theres a gas stop there too.i had to laugh to myself, wondering what i was worried about.
5 bikes and the van headed to the lighthouse and us 2 cruisers just hung around and waited.i decided to check the accomodation out and went to hicks bay.most were staying at the motel but 2 of us were booked in at mels place,a backpackers nestled in a private little bay run by joe mcclutchie.joe also runs fishing charters too and i will be returning there again one day soon, with my dive gear in tow.once i found our bed for the night,i headed back to te araroa to catchup with the crew again.we all went to the motel, made plans for the morning then said goodnight kiwi.

(day2)
with a hearty brekky of maori bread and museli in our tummys,we headed off to the meeting place at 8.30.
not a good start when our cameraman left the camera on the back of the bike and was pickedup in pieces by the rearguard:gob:

the plan on this leg was more leisurely:mellow: .take in the sites enjoy the ride and meet up in opotiki.my plan was just to make omaio for gas.

and what a day it was.beautiful coastline,:sunny: no rain in site and bikers everywhere going all ways.after a couple of stops to take in the views(and the odd icecream)my eye was back on the guage creeping towards E.

omaio was just around the corner and relief was actually getting there without switching to reserve.astonishment was finding out that there was a major powercut and pumps were out of action.generosity was a guy from motu jetboat tours offering me some gas.now that was kool!but hang on,its aviation gas he states.hope its ok.i couldnt say yep fast enough lol.
that stuff made the VN hum along nicely.

finally meeting up in opotiki scott asked me to lead us into whakatane:banana: ,twas my privilege and the ride through was again blessed by fine weather.:sunny:
after a break at whakatane i rang my boss at harvey normans to see if we can get a replacement camera.not a prob and a big $500 discount to boot.

back on the road again and tauranga was in our sites(so were the black clouds)these hit us at otamarakau but didnt hang around for long.

as we passed the papamoa turn off 2 of our team decided papamoa looked better than tauranga and branched off to the wrong road:shit: oh well.after realising the mistake they then became the tail enders:chase:

knowing my time with these guys was near its end,we stopped at tauranga for gas where i was wishing i could just keep going all the way with these great people.i was told there will be a cuppa tea waiting at katikati for us so that was it,im easy.i had to go that extra for a real cup of tea.
the parents of one of the crew had it all ready for us when we got to katikati.the hospitality there was amazing.thanks again for the cuppa,we all needed it im sure.

well handshakes, hugs and farewells said i went back to whakatane as the others headed to coromandel.
my short time with these people will be remembered as long as i live and i will attempt to catch them again in auckland on the 10th feb as they head south to new plymouth.this will coincide with the westpac run on the 11th feb.
then i will also make the final day from masterton into napier.i cant wait.
im also looking forward to the updates to come

everyone who reads this please keep an eye out for these bikes.the most noticable being the ural sidecar which looks like something out of world war 2,
and the big suzuki boulevard 109 which follows it.stop and say hi and throw any spare change you have their way.its an awsum cause and they are doing this for charity out of their own pockets.

the end(for me)untill the next meeting in auckland

Hi there

No it didnt work out today, so we arent getting to the top of the country:bye:

We rode in torrential rain, until we were stopped just out of Kaitaia heading north by the police to say the roads have been washed out.
2 bridges out :shit:

Still it was amazing riding in the elements, and I am amazed at how good Carissa has started to master the rain!! We are riding slowly and carefully and managed to get through the few flooded roads we encountered!!
We have had heavy showers every other day, but today was something else!!

We have camped up now and we are looking forward to the leg into Auckland if the roads are open:yes:

Speak to you all soon

Thanks for posting Scott.

We were a bit concerned tonight as I heard a bike hit a Camper van and well, you know, it is always bad news but pleased it wasn't you guys. Hope who ever it was is ok. I hear the ambo couldn't get to them and they had to wait a few hours cos the bridge was washed out. The chopper had to fly in.

Tomorrow is a new day and the adventure continues.

Keep at it.

A very lovely day, no rain and eventually sunshine. :sunny:

We met at Wellsford and wandered down SH16 to Helensville to the Suzuki dealer there for photo's for Kiwi Rider ( I hope the've got someone good at photoshop to tidy that lot up) :dodge:

Then on to west harbour, Greenhithe and eventually Devonport thru the last of the rush hour, everyone was well and truly cooked by the time they got there...I don't know about these adventure riders, complain about a bit of rain, complain about a bit of sun. They're probably going to complain about the snow when they get down south as well.

Anyway I left them settling into a neat old villa near the sea at Devonport and looking forward to a couple of beers....all looked happy!!

Hey all

Yes after a day off yesterday, we left the sun in Auckland for the sun in Taranaki :)

What a great day (except for Carissa dislocating her knee again:gob: ) just before New Plymouth!! She didnt fall off, it just happens occasionally.
We had to stop, she couldnt get her leg straight, but we somehow managed to get her off the bike so she could put it back into place!.
Makes her ill when she does that, and seeing her do it, didnt make me feel to good either!!

We rode around the coast from Waitomo to Awakino, fantastic!!!
The gravel road was slippy as I guess it has been graded and repaired in the last few days.

When was the last time you did something for the first time??
Well we rode through the motorways of Auckland, and all you the live there dont probably think anything off it, but we were scared sh**less!
Still we survived, so thanks Iain for the escort you provided for our first motorway experience!

Tomorrow is our last leg of the North Island (except for the final day) so watch out Southerners here we come

Then about 15 bikes rode into Wellington to our final destination at Grubs and Nasty's place, where a fully laid out dinner had been prepared!!
Amazing to think that they had all gone to so much trouble to accommodate us.
Three cheers for the Welly crew for making us so welcome.

well done carissa, you can take the L plate off by my reckoning, the mileage you've done the last few weeks as well as prior to leaving means you probably have more miles than most other with L plates,no learner now, enjoy the rest when you get home as well as support crew, fantastic effort.:sunny:

Just googled it for you, it appears to be the main street, go straight through the roundabout just past the Mobil station on your left, it looks like it becomes Queen st on the south side of the roundabout.
If I am wrong can some Mastertonian correct me please.... Lissa????

Hey there

The easiest way to find Dave Anderson Suzuki coming from the North is

First big roundabout you come across, veer right, past the fire station.
Stay on this road (which is the main road, SH2), through 2 more roundabouts and then you will see The Warehouse on your left, turn next left after The Warehouse, then 50 meters turn right.
You will see the Suzuki Flags from here.

Cheers Scott

Bugger,

Just been to the ferry terminal but must have just missed them. I was going to ride with them until the bottom of the Takas (work commitments stop me going over). Never mind.
Hopefully I will catch up with them at Masterton tomorrow and join them through the gorge. Again, other commitments stop me going all the way to Napier.

I do sincerely hope that we have time to stop at Mangitanoka ... I have the feeling that there's a memorable photo opportunity to be had there if there's 100 bikes and we all pay homage to the tower

Ha! That'll teach me to confirm dates/day. I just got it into my head that they were riding to Napier on Sat so must be arriving from the South today.
Looked at the clock, saw 8:40am. Throw on leathers, jump on bike, arrive at terminal at 9.05 thinking I'd missed them.
And yes I had.. by 24 hrs. Doh!!!!

Strange how no one mentioned about meeting them the next morning whilst on the cruisy Wed ride to the Tin Hut.

A team of 15 bikes cruised into Taradales Tareha Reserve to the applause and awe of thousands of Hawkes Bay walkers in Cancers Relay fof Life.

Contrary to popular belief, these accolades were not for the KBers but for Scott, Carissa, Pam & Gurlracer who have finally completed 7,000km in support of Cancer and raised nearly $10,000.

Well done team, Kari and I take our helmets offto you and stand in awe of your committment and efforfs
