Who's keen to grow a moustache for movember? We should get a little KB competition running to see who can grow the best mo by the end of November starting from scratch tomorrow. Pics to be taken tomorrow and at the end of the month!

The rules are pretty simple and as follows.

* On day "Mo-1" (October 31), the complete moustache region, including the entire upper lip and the handlebar zones, must be completely shaved.

* For the entire duration of Movember (Movember 1 - 32 inclusive), no hair shall be allowed to grow in the goatee zone - being any facial area below the bottom lip.

* There is to be no joining of the moustache to sideburns.

* Failure to conform to all of these rules may, at the discretion of the official Movember Committee, result in instant blacklisting.

* Movember Committee accepts no responsibility for lost jobs, rashes, food/beer encrustments or any other such mishaps caused to the wearer (or his partner) of a Movember Moustache. You grew it yourself.

Damn good idea, and for a good cause too.

And a good reason for a regional party at the end of Movember when they all get shaved off again. Pics would be great... what a laugh :sunny:

Pi** off:shutup: I can't even look at my wedding photos without cringing. Longish hair and sideburns, brown suit with flared trousers AND (cringe), a droopy Zapats moustache. I know droopy mo's are still in fashion down Balclutha way, but not in the rest of the known universe.

I'm all set to go with a work team. Unfortunately I'm interviewing and am going to be trying to recruit people in the next few weeks looking like a wife beater or a mexican porn star.

The best thing about this is you can tell your missus it's for charity.

Bring on the mo....

Southern women get chance to match fuzz with Movember men

Tuesday November 7, 2006
By Errol Kiong

It's been called the South Island Special.

While the men in Cromwell grow moustaches to raise awareness for prostate cancer, the women are leaving their left armpit unshaven for a month - all for Movember, the health campaign for the most common cancer among males.

When the Golden Gate Lodge in Cromwell decided to run an equal opportunity Movember competition at the start of the month, 13 women signed up.

"Some guys just can't put up with facial hair themselves, and some girls can't put up with armpit hairs. I thought it was only fair enough," said general manager Glen Christiansen.

"When you grow a beard, the wife or the girlfriend will often say, 'that's it, no snuggling for you for a month'. Now some guys have the opportunity to say to their partners, 'no snuggling for you either'."

The pub is holding Friday photo sessions to chart the 40 entrants' progress, culminating in a party on December 1 which will involve, among other things, shaving cream.

For the women, there's a bonus - the local hairdresser has signed on to do a "shape and colour" of the armpit fuzz. "She will have 13 armpits that she can shape and colour at will. It's a pretty horrid thought, really," said Mr Christiansen.

One female contestant already had "phenomenal coverage", he said.

"She's definitely got a good bit of stubble going.

"We've some that are very pathetic - and that goes with the guys as well ... It will be interesting to see in another 20 days where we're at.

"We haven't got a true ginga - which is a bit upsetting - but then they would probably win straight off."

One man and woman each stand to win a trip for two to Sydney for their month-long efforts.

More than 8000 men have pledged to grow a moustache for Movember, raising just over $100,000 so far for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

What, no "true ginga"? What's the world coming to? How can it be a "proper" contest without a ginga?

(Wonders if "faded" gingas would qualify)

No joining of the handlebars together (apart from top lip) - this is a goatee.

A small growth of hair under the bottom lip (known as a tickler) is allowed.

I shaved mine off already unfortunately, noone at my work got into the spirit of it which was a bit of a pain, but then when I shaved it off they said things along the lines of "why'd you go and shave it off, was looking good..."

Can't bloody win. :oi-grr:

Ah well, will make more of an effort next year, it's a good cause after all. More men die each year of testicular cancer than the bloody road toll, and there's still no screening program for it. Mention breast cancer and people are jumping on the bandwagon left right and centre (save the boobs! :pinch:), but the guy's version just isn't talked about.
