I keep hearing radio announcers going on about this being a new commercial fad introduction from the States and that it's all bad etc.

Hey, we were doing that when we were kids in the bloody 1940's, so whats new about it?

We used to spend hours making hollowed out pumpkin masks with candles in them to light them up then stick them on fences at night.

We would dress our selves up in all sorts of mom's old junk that we could scrounge.

When people walked past we would jump out and try to scare shit out of them, screaming "Trick or treat"!

We got more biffs across the ear than treats but we used to piss our selves laughing at the reactions.

We had to beat a pretty fast retreat more often than not but we didn't have TV etc then and there was a war on so things were scarce.

So where do people get the idea that this is a new commercial phenomenon?

Just something to blame the USA for perhaps! :shit: Cheers John.

just put stink bombs (seeds out of a pod from Wattle trees) in their lolly bags, that stopped them from coming to my old place. I'm in the country now so I don't have to worry about annoying kids.

We used to go 'Guising' in Scotland. We would dress up and go round to neighbours' houses. We would then be invited in but we had to entertain them with a poem/joke/song/dance - if your performance was shit you got nothing or just a small amount of sweeties or fruit - if you were good you got loads and sometimes even money.

We didn't have pumpkins - too cold to grow them - we hollowed out neaps (swedes/turnips) instead to make lanterns.

The trick or treat thing is new to me.

lol good one...

Last year we weren't home so it wasn't a problem...

I'm hoping the kids this year won't be too smart... the front of the house is a business... so they may not think to come around the back...

*makes mental note to stay off the deck so they don't see us when they are bugging the neighbors*

And you know this how? Actually, all of my kids can read and know that Napier is spelt with a capital "N":buggerd:
