Well the damn cbr250rs seems to be falling apart this week. :weep:

First a couple of days ago the headlight stops working (all the other lights still go so I'm just hoping it is a blown bulb.

Then today the clutch cable snapped. Well the cable itself didn't snap, rather the metal part the you adjust the tension broke, so that the cable had nothing to grip against in order to be pulled.

Any suggestions as to where I should go in chch for parts? My haynes manual is useless for these two problems as it only covers the square headlight (mine is round) and has nothing about the clutch cable in it.

Looking at the cable and where it goes, it looks like a simple job that even I can do. But I have no idea about the part# or whether I should be going to wreakers or repco or somewhere that specialises in motorcycles.

Also there seems to be some unusal noises coming from the top of the engine and there is definitely a bit of oil around there. Only enough to show, not enough to be leaving stains on the floor. I'll go through the pics I have of the bike and see if I can circle exactly where it is. The noise is quite a hollow one, as in it seems to make the bike sound a little gruntier.

I'm not so worried about first two. But problems with the engine freak me right out (both due to lack of knowledge and also inability to afford major repairs).

yellow place down Tuam St, think it's about 300, as you are going out of town it's on the left.

otherwise go east down moorehouse ave, just after polytech, before crowe subaru go right and over the traintracks, first street on the right, second building on the left.

mine actually had no real parts to come off it, tail light lens is about it.

Pit stop at 65 Manchester st or Budget motorcyles at 344 Wilsons road, there's also a wrecker at 412 Tuam st

I think the second set of directions are to Allparts which dont exist any more all their stock went to pit stop

If you need help pm me and I'll give you a hand

Clutch jobbie is a really simple one, just go to a wreckers, they ought to be able to find you one for a few bucks, failing that you can go to a bike shop who will either have a wreck sitting around that they can cannibalise, or will order in a ridiculously expensive new part....
Oil showing on the head is no problem at all... Its an old bike, you just gotta expect it I reckon....

Is the engine noise a tapping, or a knocking? does it change at revs compared to idle or does it go away / stay the same?

cb250 rs were all built with square headlights so you have an after market one.
Not a biggie it probably just means you have a halogen conversion.
Before paying bike shop prices pull the bulb out and try repco or wootons.
Ditto to above re cable but a temp solution wound be a screw on type clamp. Ya slide the cable throught the clutch arm and slide the clamp over the broken cable end.
The noise you are describing could almost be a worn out or maladjusted cam chain -either way swing by a bike shop and have em listen to it.

What Kickaha said, but you can also include Superior m/c I'm sure that they will make up a cable for you if the others dont have one.
