So there we were sitting at a pavement cafe in the middle of a sleepy French town enjoying our lunch of "sandwich jambon et fromage" washed down with un rouge. The weather was beautifully hot...almost too hot in black leathers.
The bike was parked directly across the street near a bus stop looking every bit like an ad for Oxford Products. Slowly a group of lolly sucking school kids arrived to wait for the next bus. As they do in France, some of the lads started to inspect and oggle over the bike (ZX9C2 at the time). I decided to have some fun with them. As they peered and perused, I zapped the alarm remote from where I was sitting which of course made the indicators flash and the alarm beep. Being of small brain this tickled me as the lads jumped back looking at each other and giggling. I would do this again and eventually they started to look around and sure enough they spotted helmets etc and waved at us in amusement. Anyway, eventually the bus came and the kids went. Nothing had been tampered with on the bike and after drinking up we set off up the road. About a kilometre ahead was a major junction controlled by traffic lights. I eased to a halt at the red light. It was then that I realised with horror that my left foot was stuck to the pedal. In blind panic I lost my balance...the bike started to topple. The extra weight (Mrs included) meant that the point of no return was reached far too easily and at zero mph we and the Ninja were soon lying horizontally in the road now with a queue of cars behind us. No one offered assistance typically - just stared and started tooting their horns! Further investigation into the cause proved that I had trodden on a sticky lolly discarded into the gutter by the little froggy oiks I had been winding up earlier. Tres amusant n'est ce pas?
