Motorcycle bomb in Baghdad kills seven
7.30am Friday November 3, 2006
BAGHDAD - A motorcycle bomb killed seven people and wounded 45 others as it ripped through a crowded motorbike market in Baghdad's Shi'ite Sadr City district on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.
The bomb, detonated by remote control, targeted shoppers in the Mureydi market. The source, quoting police at the scene, said officers initially thought the explosion was caused by a rigged car but later determined the explosives had been planted on a motorcycle.
The densely populated and impoverished area is often targeted by Sunni militants.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki demanded the US and Iraqi military lift a blockade of the district that was enforced after a US soldier of Iraqi descent was suspected to have been kidnapped by a powerful militia controlling many parts of the slum, which is home to a third of Baghdad's population.

i seem remeber watching something on tv about the bali bombings and a motorcycle was involved - i think it may have just been that the guy who was to set off the bomb at the embassy (or that other building not the bar area) rode a bike to get there....

I don't see the point of your comment. It makes no difference whether it was a motorcycle carrying the bomb or car or truck or a used biscuit tin. Motorcycles have been used probably 1000's of times as concealed bombs.

KATHMANDU, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist rebel chief Prachanda failed once again on Sunday to bridge key differences in their crucial peace talks, negotiators said.
Both sides said they would meet again but set no date for fresh dialogue.
The main sticking points that have blocked a deal in the previous three rounds of talks in a week between Koirala and Prachanda were disputes over the disarming of the rebel army and the future of the monarchy in the impoverished Himalayan nation.
More than 13,000 people have died since the Maoists began an armed campaign in 1996 to turn Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries, into a communist state.
"Today's meeting ended without any decision," Tourism Minister Pradip Gyanwali, a government negotiator, told Reuters.
"We'll meet again after more homework and dates will be decided through mutual consultations."
The rebels also said more preparations were needed before the next round.
"The meeting could not take any decision on the main political agenda," said Dev Gurung, a Maoist negotiator.
Another rebel leader said the talks were stuck "on the issue of arms management".
Both sides had said they had been "very close" to a breakthrough at the end of each previous round of talks.
Prachanda and other rebel negotiators were guarded by Maoist guards on motorcycles and vans as they arrived at Koirala's high-security residence for the talks.
That's the first time I've heard of Maoist guards riding motorcycles.

ENOUGH!
There is NO need for abusive language. I totally agree with the person that reported this post. There is an abusive trail running through this thread... and I do NOT want this part of the site turning into an abusive arena.
So I am snipping this one off.
Btw, I've read a lot of news items recently about motorcycles being used to hide bombs. There was an old IRA trick in Northern Ireland, where they would send someone whizzing past an army troup... and make sure they were just obvious enough in their route for the army to follow. Then, when the troops followed, they would find a bike parked up, with a warm engine and a helmet left on top.
Idea was an inexperienced officer or soldier who had just been posted would lift up the helmet... thus pulling the cord that pulled the pin on the grenade... and up went the bike and the soliders.
But back to the point - I don't get it either. I also don't get the need for abuse. So this thread is closed. And if Spank is reading this, I'll leave it to his more than capable hands to take whatever action he feels is needed.
yes, do discuss, do debate, by all means get passionate over a subject. But do NOT get abusive.
