What is it?

I mean - it's a pressure vessel for sure.

It measures about 350 diameter and 350 high. Has a screw off cap on a valve (valve is same as a tire valve) and when I release some pressure out it smell of paint thinners or similar (not natural gas, definitely a spirit smell)

There is another lump on top (assumedly another valve) sealed under rubbery plastic.

The label reads "CAUTION: The valve cap must not be removed except by authorized [sic] service-man to compensate for line pressure or pressure switch setting.

- Maximum workming pressure 100psi

NOTICE: This system must be protected if line pressures exceed 100psig"

I bought something off trademe and the lady asked if I wanted this thing. I said yeah (looks new.. might be worth a dollar or three) so I took it. Problem is - how do you look up what something is with only a picture and no useful description?

I'm guessing it's a chamber to stabilise/reduce surges from a pressure line. But for what? And what's it called ("lots of noodles" is NOT the answer I'm after here...!)

looks like a pressure regulator for a household water pump. similar to those old blue davey water pumps rural people have..... or these....

hard to tell tho without more detail from the sticker.... see if it has a bike tyre type of valve on it somewhere, or a rubber bladder.
