View Full Version : Just goes to show - almost anything can be used for commuting
The carpark has seen a slight increase in bike numbers of late (though it was pretty empty this morning - wimps).
Currently at a high of 5 machines (max. space 8):
My Very Yellow SV650Sk1 (old fashinioned thing)
A bronze SV1000S
A blue Fazer 1000
A HD 883 Sportster
A Vespa
A Yamaha XS650 - the US custom version
From time to time a ZXR400 and a Suzuki Freewind park in there as well.
But what interests me is the range of stuff - my tiddler, couple of litre bikes (if very different), a cruiser, a scooter and something that is quite old and I suppose 'cruiserised'. All heading to the same place, but a very wide range of machinery.
All valid choices to commute?

A bloke I know has a Kawasaki 800 Drifter,as he only commutes a couple of miles into the city centre he`d been told a couple of times that he`d ruin his bike only using it that much. The solution? He put it in his garage and has now bought the ultimate commuter......a ZX9R :eek5: Being known as an evil, orrible, nasty bastard rather than useful brain surgeon material it`s been generally accepted not give him anymore advice or criticise his choice.

WHen I', thinking commuting ...
I'm thinkin >20kms each way in my caase ...
About 60 odd bikes in my bay, no problems getting in but sometimes it can be interesting getting out. A mixture of sports, hacks, adventure and the odd cruiser. Nothing exotic. But we are pretty overwhelmed by scoots. They'll be gone come winter, though.

Have to take the car now with the new job but I was commuting Henderson to Mt Wellington most days, on a Honda MB100. I was a bit hesitant at first being on such a small bike on the motorway but at the times I was riding it was perfect. Can't really see the need for anything much bigger than a 250 for commuting. I still reckon a modern 4-stroke scooter around 200cc would be the ideal commuter - no gears and enough power, stylish and practical. That is when you have to commute in the shit traffic here in Auckalnd anyway.

Scooter, power and stylish, are 3 words that should never be seen in the same sentence! :bleh:
Each to there own though :scooter:
