Hey guy's I am flying into Auckland at 12pm on Monday 13th November to pick up my new bike and ride it back to Wgtn.
What I was hoping is that someone would be able to pick me up from the airport and take me to the bike which will be on the North Shore at Frosty's place of work. Please?!
Also if anyone would be able to escort me out of Auckland down the motorway and then point me in the right direction, that would be awesome too....
I would also really appreciate it if people could meet up with me along the way and escort me as far as they possibly can. Im nervous as hell and while I know that im more than capable of doing this a bit of company would be the piece of mind I need to help me relax. But I wont be going fast!
If anyone can help me with this please let me know. My phone number is 027 668 7628 but I will check on here during the day as well.

I'm the wrong end of the country to help out Str8, but have a great ride. Its the best way to get to know your bike. I would suggest going via Taranaki rather than the Desert Road for your first long distance ride. Enjoy. :scooter:

Ah yeah I plan of what I intend to do might help, eh?!
I arrive at 12 Noon, need to get to Frosty's work then I plan on leaving Auckland about 2pmish and head to Taupo where I will stay the night. Then I'll head back to Wgtn the next day.
If anyone could give me a bed for the night in Taupo that'd be awesome! Failing that what are the Backpackers like in Taupo?

Weather permitting I can meet you over at Frosty's workplace.......in Devonport..... and help escort you back out of town..... maybe even ride with you down to Hamilton.
Or if he can get the bike to you at the airport then I can also meet you there.
We can refuel up at BP autobahn if you like if others want to join in on the ride down.
Oh yeah I dont ride fast either..... so that will give you time to get used to your new baby.

Glad to see you took the riding option Hels. Prolly a good idea to stick to the main road too as it has the best cellphone coverage and more people passing along it to help you out if you had a breakdown or whatever.

Yeah thats what I reckon too. I pretty sure i'll just go over the Desert Rd as its the quickest way and one that I have been over quite a few times!

Since i am living a life of leisure still.
If Terbang wasn't able to pick you up,i could, being 10 minutes away.
Then depending how things pan out with Crashe,i could grab the TL and escort you to Taupo then head back.. :scooter: ...I don't need much reason to fire the bike up.
*
I think the main thing to do on an Adventure like this is relax and enjoy it (perhaps easier said than done)...and not to look at it as the whole distance but from town to town.
It will be a case of :woohoo: when you see Welly.

Do you know where Frosty works in devonport.......?
He is at that car salesyard on the left hand side heading into Devonport on a corner... by the set of lights... Cant remember the name of the car yard thou.
we can all meet up there at 1pm and wait for str8 jacket to get there.
Then all head down the southern motorway and refuel up at BP Autobahn for the ride down south.... that will give str8 jacket a wee break in getting to know her new bike.

You are heading to Devonport....... 154 Lake Road...
On the left hand side by a set of lights is a car yard......
It could be the corner of Lake Rd and Williamson Ave going by my map book.
You go past Takapuna Grammar School which is also on your left.
You cant miss it... there is a huge wrought iron fence around it....
You also go past a BP garage on your right hand side.
There is also another car yard on the same road......
PS: just spoke to Frosty...... he doesnt want a huge amount of bikes showing up at his work place...lol. Like what is 3 or 4 bikes.... we can park up across the road...

if you can let me know when you nearly at bulls, ill shoot over, so long as theres time. ill come over the foxton str8 at least.

I think they have different numbers on them CBA so that people can't use someone else's expired or lost or stolen licence, they cancel the old one and issue a new one that has a different coded number on it. Sucks aye, cause I'd like to have on in my bike jacket and one in the car, but I was told they can't issue you two valid licences.

Well what an interesting day! I am sooo sore and im only in Taupo.... Oh my God, I love the FZR! When I first hopped on it I was so scared of it but by the time that we were at the end of the motorway I was feeling quite comfortable. It is so different from my KR I cant even explain. I dont think I got any higher than 3rd gear! It cruises so well at about 110-120 and I made it to Taupo within 4 hours so I was happy with that. Did I mention how much my butt hurts? Im really really tired and think that I shall sleep very well tonight.
Big huge thankyou goes to TLVD?... for picking me up from the airport amd riding with me from Autobahn until Taupo, it was so much easier having someone with me. Big huge thanks to Crashe for escorting me down the motorway and riding with us until Cambridge. I dont know if I could have done it without you guy's!
Meeky MOuse and her brother picked me up from Wairakei (sp?) and escorted me back to their place wher there mum is cooking me dinner, it smells awesome. Im just sitting here with a beer now relaxing. Wow Ive had an awesome day and I get to do it all again tomoro.

I shall write up a ride report sometime after I get back!
Great to hear that the Auckland crew looked after you ok STR8.
Take care on leg 2. The forecast is for the wind to pick up during the day but if you are setting out early, you should be sweet!
Oh! and for the crew way down south... batten down the hatches. They were talking about 130k gusts by late afternoon (and 300mm of rain).

str8 jacket - Great meeting you today....
Awesome ride down to Cambridge with you and also TLDV8.
I had arrived early at Devonport and was yakking to Frosty, when the 'limo' arrived. Now she asked where she could change out of her jeans.... naturally Frosty said right here on the roadside...... str8 declined and was taken out the back to get into her bike pants......
Poor Frosty and TLDV8 did look a tad disappointed......
Once str8 jacket and I got the fuel issue sorted..... ok she forgot to ask Frosty what type of fuel it took.. we headed off down the southern motorway to BP Bombay....... to await TLDV8 to arrive after he had dropped off his limo back home. Cheers for the McDon's as well.
Had a great day with you guys......
We even saw a red car in the ditch that wasn't meant to be there...
Str8 jacket - you did really well on your new bike and all the best in the next stage of the journey....
If you think your butt is sore tonight, just wait until tomorrow night when you get back to Wellington.

Alrighty, just started a new job today and dont have internet access anymore, so here goes...
Mate the 2nd half of the trip was pretty extreme! I stayed at Meeky's house where her mother cooked a mint Roast Lamb and chocolate pudding on the Monday night and her family were so hospitable it was awesome!
Jas (meeky) her brother Aaron and myself left McD's Taupo at 8.30 and headed for Turangi to meet up with Slimjim. Jas and her bro were going to come to Waioru with us but the wind was picking up a bit and they decided to head home, which was very lucky in the end! Me and Slimjim left Turangi and headed across the Desert Rd, as soon as we got to the straight the wind picked up, ALOT! I was being blown onto the left hand side of the road and I was basically leaning vertically into the wind with my knee out, was starting to feel a little stressed and then the sand started blowing across the road so thick that I couldnt even see Slimjim and he couldnt see me. It was at this point that I started praying, really really loudly in my helmet and im not a religious person! We finally got to Waioru where we stopped so that I could have a de-stress ciggy (yes I HAVE given up) and then we were on our merry way again. Next stop Bulls for petrol and we also saw our first coppa here to. We were lucky he didnt turn around  Then we made the turn right into the straight toward Wellington, it was here that the bloody wind picked up again and I was literally between the left hand white line and the grass trying to fight the bike back and actually looked forward to the big trucks coming towards me as they would blow me back into the centre of the lane. As we hit Himitangi I seriously considered pulling over and getting the bike towed back but I kept going, clinging on tightly! But I decided I was being a wuss. I was trying to prepare myself for the Wgtn weather as I had had texts all day telling me how bad the weather was. When we got to Wgtn it was just a mere breeze compared to where we had come from! I got into Wgtn about 2pm and I was soo sore I could hardly walk!
As for the bike im absolutely loving it! It is so different from the KR but I hate to think what would have happened to me had I had tried to make the trip on the KR. Hopefully soon i'll learn to ride it properly, im having problems getting used to changing gears smoothly and im waay to scared to lean it into corners!

Yeah, it was kind of an "epic journey" for me as I haven't ever really driven a car before and I had only ever ridden a bike as far as Palmy North and that was on the GN! When I hopped on the FZR in Akld I really thought that I had made a mistake!!

Just caught up with this thread. Glad to hear you got back safe Hels. I flew out to Melbourne that morning at 6.30am and we hit a few bumps and I heard later it was blowing 130km/hr so you did well to get home in that - good on you. You sure got some quick experience on the bike.
Funny thing was Melbourne turned to crap for two days after I got there and it snowed just out of the city at places like Ballarat and the temp high on Wed/Thurs that week was only about 11 deg but it was back up to 31 by Sunday when I went to Brisbane where its been about 28-29 ever since and I had to come home reluctantly.
You reckon you'll be up to doing the Coast to Coast on it?

Just the tap itself broke off. Its all good though, Loosebruce who sent me a left mirror and clutch lever is also sending me a fuel tap.... Been pretty lucky there!
