Ok after Frostys track day on sunday I have comfirmed that the bandit is just not cutting the mustard anymore and I need to go shopping for a new bike.
The question is what to get.
The bandit has been great but my riding has changed and I seam to be continualy scraping footpegs and boots on corners. I was thinking along the lines of a 900 hornet or somthing simular or going for a complete chage and getting a sports bike, GSXR, R6 along those lines.
I have about $12,000 to spend and would still want to do the daily commute to and from work as well as a few overnighter type rides as well.
Come on people hit give me your suggestions

It may sound a bit silly but have you considered a GSR600? Bloody horny little bike mate, same motor as the GSXR600 and they are supposedly a good handling bike. My mate @ work just bought a secondhand one and uses it for commuting, and he traded from a CBR1000 to it! The bike has a huge following already and has plenty of aftermarket goodies!! Well, if you're scraping bits, then a sports bike is a better option... Lots of good 600's going for that price.

Hell yeah. well said that man. I am being continually surprised (in a good way) at the performance of mine. Went from a CBR600RR to the SV and haven't looked back.

Kiwifruit, Dover nice suggestions but I would im strechin my budget just a little bit to far (God damm I would love to have that sort of money).
One of my main concerns about going for a thou is that it may be a bit for commuting on? I know there a plenty of examples but when it is mainly 50kph to 70 kph stuff I wounder if it is really that good for the engine and running gear, being that they were designed for much higher speeds.

(Sorry double post) I have a GSXR750K5 for sale. sent you a pm/email.
Probably the best compromise. Not as revvy as a 600 but more torque. Let me know if you are interested.

The question is what to get.And the stock KB answer is: Ride them all!!
Having said that, make sure you ride a modern Suzuki GSXR750. Even if it is a Suzuki. I think you'll like it.

Dam that would be nice, however it would probally lead to alsorts of very expensive issues, a go fast bike would generally mean more trackdays, more trackdays from what I have obersved on this site generally results in people ending up with a race bike and so on, and so on. Not a bad thing if you can afford it. And the the commuter bike well that would probaly nver be fast enough (even in city traffic) .
As for biased opinions love to hear them all, even thou they are bias I may not of thought of them.

In that case...what you obviously need is an Aprilia RSV Mille. If you shop around they can be picked up for around 12k. Ther are Falco's out there for good money too. They will be more comfy on the commute.

Actually, I found the 919 Hornet a bit dissapointing. There is nothing wrong with it, just the engine was.. boring. It didn't yell 'WHIP MY ARSE!! WHIP IT GOOD AND DON'T STOP!!'. The Kawasaki Z750 I found to be much more involving.
Which now makes me wonder how exciting a Z1000 would be...

You can't compare a Hornet to a GSXR LBTW (I know you like to). Two completely different bikes.
Also, how many bikes did you test ride before you bought your latest weapon? ;)

DONT bother with the GSR600 if you are sick of the arse bandit. it won't be hugely different and will probably be shit on the track. it handles ok and has a really smooth motor (from the K4/5 gixxer 600, retuned) but has budget suspension.
The thou's are fine for commuting, fucking awesome actually.
I still reckon an SV1000s or a GSXR750K6 is the way to go tho.

Triumph Speed Four :P Brand new one is $12k with two year warranty.
Excellent handling, but with a proper seat and slightly higher bars than a gsxrcbzxr6. Makes for a comfy bike that does damn well in corners.
If you're like me and want a bike that does the track, commutes, tours and doesn't need the snot revved out of it, you'll find a GSXR750 utterly, utterly useless.

sorry mate but that's is just utter bullshit.
The 750 is great for all of the above, I commuted 32km each way on it thru varied roads and could pootle along in 6th if I wanted, or thrash the tits off it when I felt the need.
I've done 600km days on it, 2 up, and only felt old rugby injuries and wrists hurting (due to most of the ride being twisty at a fuckin quick pace).
Naked upright bike owners need to get over this shit, sportsbikes may give you a sore wrist, nakeds a sore neck (unless you're keeping it legal) but I gaurantee a full day in the saddle of any will give you a sore arse. Much like a night with Maurice.
If you're an old cripple get a naked bike.

I've done the whole overnight test with a K5 750 and it doesn't do anything till you get to 8 grand. Awesome for the track. Not so awesome for the road.
I think you've got it the wrong way around. Too many people are concerned with the wank factor of a sportsbike that they dont realise that you dont need to be head down arse up to get around corners quick.
700km in a day on my bike and no sore arse.

Your arse must be used to a pounding then because, yeah ok I'll come out of the closet, I used to own a cruiser and even that gave me a sore arse after any length of time on it.
You've done an overnight test on a K5. I owned a 750K6 and put about 8000km on it, it is as easy to commute on as my 1000. If you ring the tits out of it you will end up in someones boot or getting a ticket, it still pulls from low down. Ask Spank.
It's not the wank factor, one of the fastest guys I know rides a monster, but the dude said he wanted a sportsbike.
Not an old ladies bike to do the grocery shopping on.

LBTW and Dover are right. Until recently I was a hardened nekid bike fan, expounded the virtues of the comfortable riding position and ergos.
I had the opportunity to ride some twisty/fast roads on a K61000...humming along at normal cruising speed and was astounded to findout I was a full 70km/h faster. My nekid can do 'this' speed with ease, my arms/wrist/head can't.
Even after reverting back to my more reasonable cruising speed I thought that I could be on the bike all day without too much worry. At legal speeds there was little pressure on my wrists. Fast sweepers were more confidence inspiring despite shitting myself as I wasn't on *my* bike. Don't know if this was because of better suspension or seating position.
I wouldnt want to commute in traffic on a sporty though. Not regular like anyway.
Please test ride all the sporties though, not the default option.
Bytor

Use my Gixxer 600 everyday, commuting and scatching and find it really comfy and you don't need to rev the arse off it to get moving in slow traffic. Found it a lot better than the CBRRR600, R6 and ZXR6 which are smaller.
A lot will depend on your size though so go test em all

My brother brought an 06 for 11.5K. I took it for a blast and didnt want to get off the thing. The positioning was a welcome relief from clip ons. It had heaps of grunt and I would imagine it would be very easy to flick around a track. Great sound from a standard exhaust.
In the hands of a good rider I think it would more than hold its own with the litre club through the twisties.

the SV motor has smaller valves, throttle bodies and less overlap in the cams from the TL motor and as such has plenty of low and mid mumbo. I've done about 10000k commuting in AK traffic since ai got it and apart from the sore wrists have no problems.

I'd say go for an SV1000s mate. Very nice bikes. And at $12,500 for a K6, you really can't go wrong. Just try anything and everything, and have a lot of fun while you're at it.
