If you're talking about the gas turbine Y2K bike, then I guess you sort of answer your own question by the fact that you need to ask it in the first place......

Holy shit !! ... can you say "red smear on the tarmack" .. why the hell would you want to ride that? .. although having said that .. if it dosn't have a CC rating .. you can ride it on a learners .. LOL

A jet engine still has a rated capacity (by volume) it's just measured differently to a reciprocating piston engine.

a 250cc jet would be fun (no doubt) but I'm willing to be that thing has a little more...

I still say you would be MAD .. gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "rocket between the legs" tho.

hmm .... you may have a point there.

You must not ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity greater than 250 cc.

See now a rocket's a diferent thing. The engine in a rocket is a wee small thing that fuckloads of fuel goes through fucken fast and burns fucken hot and goes like fuck.

THAT'S the kind of madness you could ride on a learners... course you'd have the issue of the 100kph speed limit to worry about... and the possibility of going vertical from time to time

In the end, the 250cc restriction is a bullshit anyway (doesn't help anybody). If they wanted to be realistic about restricting the beginners on sedate bikes, they would have restricted the power of the bike, not the cc rating.

Think! A learner is allowed to drive a nsr250 on the street :Punk: , but he/she is not allowed to drive a honda XR400 or any 400 farm bike, for example

I heard a rumour that there will be a learning cc restriction for cages next year .....

I'd rather have a sedate 650 single dual purpose, safer, slower, cheaper to run and cheaper to buy. Oh well....

The Y2K isn't much of a match for a 600cc sports bike, once you hit the first corner.

*If you hit the first corner* ^_^

I think you're wrong there Mr P...

A Y2K will HIT the corner heck of alot harder than anything else on 2 wheels, given the same run-up to it! ;) heh heh heh...

shouldnt be a restriction at all on what kind of bike you can get, you can kill yourself on a bike no matter what the cc rating. just give more riding education and rider awareness!! :scooter:

if theres no cc restriction on cage learner licences then why put one on a motorbike? if you had the money you could buy a buggati veyron on a learner cage licence!! most expensive bike on a learners probably an aprillia !! WTF??

IANAL, but

[(d)in the case of a Class 6L licence, where the holder is riding a motorcycle, the holder—
(i)must display on the vehicle an ``L'' plate as specified in clause 66; and
(ii)must not—
(A)drive between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am; or
(B)drive at a speed exceeding 70 km/h, unless taking the restricted licence test for a Class 6R licence under clause 48(5); or

(C)drive a motorcycle that has a total piston displacement exceeding 250 cm3; or

(D)carry another person on the motorcycle or in a sidecar attached to the motorcycle]

the y2k has no pistons, so the displacement is well under the 250 limit set

interesting choice of words "piston displacement"

Very true. Each of my pistons only displaces 250cc :scooter:

FINALLY... a method by which to teach cagers how to not tailgate :devil2:

I would say its like a muzzy turbo on a zx10... something you really want to ride once (well... maybe a couple of times then :innocent: ) but probably hopeless around our country roads. Still... you could catch up down the straights, once you were able to open the throttle a bit.

Imagine the speeding ticket for 'low flying' :gob:

with the state of some roads, low flying would be right, hit the first bump and launch,

Could you use the excuse "I wasn't on the the road Officer, just flying a little low":bleh:

the y2k bike has 290hp at the rear wheels.... thats more than my vr4 had at the crank. jus ducktape sum wings onto it and the most likely result would be a rather stealth looking aircraft............:devil2:

apparently the top speed is 402kph and it apparently also does 9.8second 1/4miles

saw the bike you are talking about. learners lic, 227MPH and the sheer fact that you inquired 'why not' suggests that you better not
