When Leroy Sleeper, 48 was riding his motorbike in San Miguel, California, little did he realise that he would be faced with an axe-wielding maniac in his path. As he rode along, he spotted a man standing in the middle of the road, who took out an axe and started swinging it at Sleeper.
Faced with few options, Sleeper realised that if he swerved, he would probably be struck by the axe – so he took the only other option and chose to plough straight into the madman, Aldrich Ross Peck, also 48, sending him into a ditch. Despite being thrown from the bike, Sleeper then leapt to his feet and disarmed Peck.
Sleeper then generously called an ambulance for Peck, but declined to be taken to hospital himself. As soon as Peck, currently in hospital with injuries to his pelvis and head, is released. police will arrest him on a count of assault with a deadly weapon.
