HI all, how is this then, today i went for a ride, left home went through Tahuna to Paeroa, cranked the TL up to 220kph no hassles, got stopped at check point at Paeroa, they wanted to look at bike sweet, left paeroa raced to Ngatea, cranked it up through Patetonga on way home, cop going other way in a line of cars flashed me then turned so i pulled over and he pulled up behind me (older cop) said he clocked me at 183kph asked me the usual (any reason blah blah) not really officer straight road, said i should be walking home, but then said he had a soft spot for bike riders and told me to slow down,no ticket received, warned me there were others close ,he then did u turn and left me to continue, go the waikato cops,

Very Lucky RCTL but if that was who i think it was, he is a top guy and rides himself, have ridden with him a few times myself. He is very bike tollerant but can only be pushed so far. Caution next time.
Cheers

I know the road you're talking about, someone did 180+ on that, hauled the anchors, and passed Mr Plod at 100

Really mate... pulling 183 as a line of cars were heading towards you... :gob:

As someone has said... you trying to lose your license? I don't mind you speeding at all really... but sheesh... you don't need a license?

You might want to consider that very lucky (people have lost their licenses for waaaaaay less), and keep the speed to quieter places eh? :innocent:

You're a lucky man to get away with it.

I wouldn't exactly praise you for spouting on about it on a forum..... Those types of things you keep to yourself, one reason being, the 'good' cop in question could be located and dealt to, leaving us with another anti-biker to take his place...

They don't have to show you as far as I am aware. Most will out of courtesy, times I have been pulled the cop has sat me in the passenger seat and showed the reading then run the self diagnostic thingo on the thing

Don't waste money on Lotto anymore. You've just had a lifetime's worth of luck.
The IRD were crawling around Wellsford yesterday, including a dark blue Mazda 6 parked in a VERY sneaky spot near the Tomarata Valley Rd intersection.
I saw it at Waitoki again today, with a blonde hottie at the wheel. I felt like telling her that there's no point checking me all the way down the straight, when I'd picked the Stalker up way before the corner. Heh Heh.

Yeah, thats too fast on a public road, any half wit can go 220, its just a case of twisting the wrist. If you are really such a good rider show us on the track. Or maybe grow up and discover you can enjoy two wheels at low speed too.

Strong words there dave....was going to take the piss outta your harley but then remembered i have grown up and dont have to resort to that shit to make a point....theres plenty of places..down here anyway where 180-220 kms can be done in relative safty and with no risk to anyone but the rider..if you like/enjoy your motorcycling at a more sedate pace then good for you but no reason to get into the guy for going a bit quick...one of the great things about motorcycling for me is the diversity of people that participate.

I totally agree - it sucks arse that RCTL got away with doing this ludacris speed when more conservative riders get nailed for being just over the limit. We should all get let off, or we should all get fined and lose our bike - some consistency would be nice...

Yeah I agree that there are places you can go fast and be safe, and not endanger anyone else. But maybe not when there is a line of traffic coming towards you. But.. perhaps I was a little blunt ! Must say I was pissed off to see a cop sitting at the end of the Te horo passing lane using laser to pick out those who had crept up to 120 passing the caravans and boats in the slow lane.

Perhaps the budget is stretched a bit thin after Labour weekend... and with the christmas "festivity" season around the corner the police might be being encouraged to use up their leave while they can.

HRT
12th November 2006, 21:21
but at the end he said that 15% of accidents in passing lanes involved people going three wide...meaning there passing people that are passing...

Number can say whatever you like though. Going by that it means that 85% of crashes in passing lanes are going 2 wide. So really you'd be 6 times safer passing 3 wide as crashes happen a lot less when that is happening

To the dude who got let off, I wouldn't imagine that you'll have it happen again. Lucky to still be on the road I'd say. Does make it all that much more annoying people are getting let off around traffic doing that when I'm sure there are quite a few who have got stupid tickets for doing 63 in a 50 with no traffic around etc

As far as i understand they are meant to offer you the choice of veiwing the radar/laser reading. Otherwise if u request they can't refuse.

Its considered best practice to lock the speed reading on the radar and offer the person involved the opportunity to view the screen.

However it isn't a requirement and if for any reason the cop forgets to make the offer or the speed wasn't locked or for some other reason it has been cleared from the screen it isn't a defence.

Policemen should always be able to warn for a traffic infringement if they so chose.

Exactly, - the strange thing I notice is that people expect the opposite i.e. Police should be able to issue a ticket if they so choose (i.e. the expectation is on them not ding so).

You breaka da law you paya da price... usually... don't fucken winge and carry on about it. Sit down, shut up and learn your lesson. Sometimes there's no lesson to be learned (i.e. you went for a high speed strop, knowing there was a risk of being caught)

It's a simple game of cat and mouse for those who choose to play. And let's face it, with 100+bph at your right wrist, and less than 200kgs under your butt... I think it's a game we have all played from time to time.

Everybody speeds, and everybody knows the speed limit,

If ya get off ya gat off, if ya dont ya dont.

Dont like that post that "we should all get done or all shouldnt, one size fits all". Policemen should always be able to warn for a traffic infringement if they so chose.

Yup thats it.. Ive been headlight flashed at over 200 and busted for 113 and am allways prepared to take whatever consequence of my actions. Cops do have something betwwen their ears and like most of us, they use it.
To me, 183 Kays is way over the top in the wrong place and nothing more than just a good squirt in 2nd gear in a more suitable place. If we use the grey matter and take personal responsibility then you generally find a good balance. The difference is between your ears..!
Track riding and road riding require different (though similar) skills and without dispute, compliment each other to produce a smarter and better riding experience.
But don't start me on speed cameras..!

I thought it had to be locked in otherwise they didnt have a lot to go on if you take it to court. I have noted that on the extra information on the infringement notice, that only the officier has (not on the part we get), it mentions things like:
- Vehicle 1up
- Driver declined/accept to view radar
- The speed is locked in
- The direction he was heading and the direction you were and which radar (forwards or back) got ya.

so yea i thought they had to.

Dont know really, where ya get ur info from?

You don't HAVE to show them but it saves the niggle from somebody that didn't realise they were going that speed.
I show most but not all - especially if they admit guilt and know they were speeding.
