View Full Version : Windy Wellington

Well, my bike just fell victim to the wind of Wellington.
Had been watching it nervously from work the entire morning, when she began wobbling and before I could run out and save her she was lying on her side. Was very relieved to find only a scratched bar end and a wee mark on the muffler which rubbed off:sweatdrop
God bless naked bikes!
So, to all you others out there on two wheels today, take care.

Go the nekid bikes!
I'll say. Just got a text from a mate of mine whose GSX250 has blown over, again! Recommended he take the fairing off so he stops spending money on decoration.

So I hear, and i believe it too, but until I've got them myself they're just decoration. My mates had to fork out twice for cracked fairings now, don't think he will a third time. So for the time being I'm happy without them.

The fairing saved my bike - the bottom bit is munted - not bothering to replace that -- but the middle section - having a plastic welder look at it tomorrow.
I have to wait until I get home and see if my bike is still on its stand!! Bugger I work until 7pm tonite!! Think I will get a friend to drive by lol!
Oh why did I move from Hawkes Bay???!!! Apparently today it is 26 deg, sunny, no wind or rain!! wonder what that's like??

Tell me about it! I've been in Brisbane for the last 7 days - watching people cruise around on their bikes. No wind. HArdly any rain (not so good for them, but nice if you're visiting), 33 degrees there yesterday.
I left my bike in my parents garage while I was away, and I'm not even going to go and pick it up today, it's too nasty on the Eastbourne road. Went through in my car before and got hit by waves coming over the road and there's all kinds of crap washed onto the road as well. BLAH!
Was hoping for a good day today so I could go for a ride, do some washing, mow the lawns...before heading back to work tomorrow...
Take care everyone riding today - it's a crap one.

Rimutakas are apparently closed to bikes, vans and light vehicles.

I can confirm that. Just seen a press release come through my email. Closed to all motorcycles, high sided vehicles, vans and light vehicles.
A truck was blown over near the summit, and authorities were considering closing the road. Keep an eye on it
I find aa roadwatch site good for the main roads. http://www.aaroadwatch.co.nz/index.html

There's a couple of bikes on the ground on The Terrace too - I rode in this morning and it was fine, think I'll get a lift home in the bosses cage though!

It's 27 in Tamatea - down from 29.5.....getting windy now tho. We'd like to send it back. And if you guys must export stuff, can you at least send it offshore - the provinces are not interested.

Just drove back from 2 days in the Hawkes Bay. Not fair, I want to relocate. That was 2 days of better weather than Wgtn has had all 2006! When did Wgtn last get 2 average day sinb a row? We are not even allowed that luxury #@&%. Car aircon was working overtime. Got in 9 holes of golf in the late arvo- hot! Loved it. Aircon was on all the way to Paraparaumu then... reality hit home. Grey sky, winds, temperature dropping and rain by Porirua. Thanks for the welcome home Wgtn. Bastard.

I got caught out in high winds at the tops of the Tararuas afew Augusts ago, ended us spending the night in the bush when it blizzarded, rained, snowed and hailed on us... I promised never to complain about Wellington weather again...
But this is getting ridiculous!

apparantly a while back a truck was overturned because of the high winds just on the wellington side of the rimutakas.....first corner heading down the hill - if anybody makes sense of that!

Thats a really nasty 'funnel' in a certain wind direction. Theres several wind directions that make certain corners quite nasty...I think I've found all of them at some stage.

It's on days like yesterday that I'm glad the CB is a bit lardy. I managed to get in and out of Welly without too much buffeting. I think its weight keeps it planted. S'funny though, I always find that the stretch of road by the IRD/Railway Station/Ferrymans Junction (heading out of Welly) acts like wind tunnel and can catch you out...even when it's not windy!

When I came to start my bike last night after it's tip over I noticed it was running on 3 cylinders. Boo hoo. I thought I may have some more issues to sort out so was ready to take the tank of when I got home, only to find it running smoothly on all 4 again.
I'm guessing a whole lot of crap got thrown around when it fell and just needed flushing out?

Hey there. I have a 250 Hyosung - night shift last night - came in from the Hutt "in the car". Only sighted 1 motorbike. Too dangerous. Glad its calmed down - rain not so bad, its the damn wind!

Funny I was in Broadbeach/Gold Coast last week and a storm came through that forced us to abandon our games (Softball - Pan Pac masters) and run for our cars. The storm was so fierce it made the national news with huge flooding and someone struck by lightning. Quite windy too. Had to get out of the car in the pouring rain to push a stalled car off the motorway. None of the Aussie drivers wanted to help. And the lady driving the car was HOTTTTT with 2 small children.

Gotta love Hawkes Bay, plenty of squiggly east coast roads to play on, 25plus degrees throughout summer, bugger all wind most of the time and it ain't too far to either welly or auck's.
Be careful out there windy weather people, it takes a little getting used to riding with all the funny angles and directions the wind try's to push yer :)
