Hi guys

This thread is just a reminder about something that I have mentioned many times before...

A while ago the site was upgraded, one of the features was that you could preview your pm's content in your email notification. The problem is people are replying to the notification which means, a) the people who the pm was intended for never gets it b)I am getting lots of unnecessary emails and having to reply to them asking people to log in before they reply. :thud:

So please keep in mind:
*Log in before you reply to a pm.
*If you reply to the notification - it goes to KB and not the person who you are replying to.

So please think about these things before just acting, its becoming a huge waste of time..

:done:

Can't spank put an autoresponder on the mail system to intercept those replies?

... he says hopefully...

It'd save a truckload of work for you.

Not a fool at all......what a pain for you to get all that spam stuff to reply to.......have never responded to an email notification yet, cos I used to have to deal with the bounced back mail from people who did, make this thread a sticky, hopefully that will help......

Joni, is there a template that the PM gets encapsulated into before it is sent as an email to the recipient?...you could put a line in there that says 'please do not reply to this email'.

Joni
14th November 2006, 17:27
Good idea... but I get the feeling that wont penetrate the grey matter either...

Can you send a blanket email ('broadcast') to every one (like the newsletter) thats dedicated to this issue. Not everyone is going to read this thread.

The_Dover

why don't you reply to them in big bold letters

"LOOK FUCKTARD,

THIS IS AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION NOT A FUCKING PM HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU MONKEYS NEED TO BE TOLD??????

Surely that would grab their attention? No?

skelstar

I know if youre coding (in PHP) you can set what email address is replied to. You could set up an email address that autoresponds with Dover's suggestion.

Whats his name? He could learn through embarrasment...My honest opinion... if he does not get what notification is, what are the chances he will see this thread (even tho I have emailed him the link 3 times now)...

Can’t you just set up a rule to auto delete them when they come in then you’ll never know about them. The notifications go out with standard wording in them, and presumably are coming back with this wording still in the body of the message. You should be able to set up to recognise this and bin the thing. This shouldn’t be hard to do and would solve your problem.

Joni, Spank should be able to change the email that goes out to have a field called 'reply-to'. An example is in the picture attached.

Just make the 'reply-to' email address a dedicated email address that autoresponds with a message saying 'Please login to KB to reply to your PMs....idiot'.

Sorry for the heavy editing....there is a war on you know.

The_Dover

or..... put his own address in the reply to field.

then he'll feel like a right prick emailing himself.

I am dumb founded by some people - I suppose we should not all presume everyone is as internet savvy as yourself...

Did another 2 today... sent the link to this thread :sunny:

I like Skels one suggestion - a "please dont reply to thie email" feature... should work. (or you should think it would work)

The notification emails have..

To read the original version, respond to this message, or delete the
message, you must log in here:

which is more than enough for any idiot.

So if we click on REPLY will that message go to the recipent in their private message box that quoted us... or does that message get lost in the system back at KB?

Cheers to whoever answers this question for me.

Crashe - just log on and reply to a pm... in other words reply via KB... you cant reply to a pm via email.

Joni - I aint talking about the notification via email that I get as I just delete them as they come in....

Im talking about in the private message section on KB itself. Can we reply back to the person in that actual message to them as it does say REPLY at the bottom of the QUOTE message.

I would like to reply back via that REPLY button but wouldnt want it lost in the KB system that you have to sort throu....

Damn its hard trying to explain this......lol.

Damn it and its only mondayitis.... lol.

For goodness sake Crashe - of course you can reply to your pm's, just as long as you are logged on... thats what a pm is for, a private message/conversation.

This thread is about email notifications...

Prehaps you need to reorganise the wording to give more emphasis to the log in first part, and put it at the top of the email.

ie...

Do NOT Reply to this Email.
You MUST LOG IN TO KB here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/private.php to respond to, read or delete the original version of your Private Message.

something like that, or just preview the message header, not the body.

I like Dover's suggestion, except it'd get trapped by most mail filters with an anti-spoofing rule.

LOL - Speaking of which . . . Dover, didn't someone post an anti spoofing rule on your flat fridge one time? Story of your life eh? ;)
