My darling RZ is a joy to behold, but of late, I have found my eye wandering.

I feel it is the 7 week itch - although she sates my appetite from time to time, I feel myself needing more than catering to her whim, and spending all my non-existant dosh on things that she feels she needs done.

There is another model... it pains me to say this, it's... it's... it's the GN250... she's gorgeous.

I'll come out and say it.

I WANT ONE!

But Mrs Fort Bloody Knox says I can't have one...

...how can I satisfy my lust, when the only two wheeled mistress I have no longer fires me as much as I fire her?

Take one for a ride first then try and say that sentence again............ you'd be mad getting off a classic like the RZ250 to a GN250.

Perhaps... but she lacks love and respect for me... I can't live a lie...

Although, in saying that, she's a typical bloody woman really - eats the money that I have to beg from me biological missus, and keeps making herself unavailable whenever I wanna ride her...

Dammit, I need a nympho bike, or I'm gonna have to gay up!

Wise woman. Ignore her at your peril.
By all means look at changing bikes, but (almost) anything other than a GN. Please. Promise us all you won't do it.

Yeah but the majority of GN's are made in China these days and are not up to standard, shiny now - rusty later...

GN's a great bike - bastards last forever and new ones are cheaper that an old GB400! I bet 25% of the riders on here started on one or their mates.

Having said that you are the first person I have ever heard of lusting over one...........

.................It appears I have nothing to say about that....:gob:

If you afford the $$$$ the next best thing for you to lust over would be a Hyosung Aquila 250 (http://www.bikepoint.com.au/portal/alias__bikepointau/tabID__5760/ArticleID__118893/DesktopDefault.aspx)I assume you like your cruisers..........

Okay... so perhaps *lust* is the wrong word... infatuated?

Hmm, i'd stay away from the GN250's for the quality issues allready mentioned. Not familiar with the Hyosung pictured above, tho it looks the part. My suggestion for a 250 cruiser, based on experience, would be for a Yamaha Virago XV250 or XV250S (being slightly more stylish). They have plenty of poke for 250 cruiser, the advantage of the torque produced by a V-twin engine configuration, are loads of fun to ride, and the seat height is low enough for most women should your wife take an interest in learning to ride.

Just think, then she could have the Virago and you could trade up :msn-wink:

'infatuated'. Is that the technical term for someone who has 'cracked a fat'? ... (as we used to say back in the old days.)

But they look just so... so... shiny!

Yes they do look 'shiny'....all new bikes do. Colapop is pretty close to the mark on what he said. I had one, and yes, a little bit of surface rust started to show, not long after i got it, didnt really bother me, as i had my eye on bigger things within' a short space of time. In saying that, the GN did its job for me, i sold it for $400 less than the retail price after about 12 months. So they have a great resale value, better than the Hyosung cruiser thing i would say

On the button there my friend, but they are a good starting point, cheep!

But... I'm not FUSSED on 2 strokes... haven't been in the way of the Biker long enough to have established a particular fancy...

Well, other than to have figured I don't like feeding the spongey bitch bike from hell!

Ixion
14th November 2006, 20:16
Well of COURSE it's a bitch bike from hell. It's a two stroke. I mean, granted, they are just a teeny bit tempramental, and maybe, perhaps, cost just a little tiny bit more to keep going, and just very occasionally may have a slight whoopsie.

But its a TWO STROKE. How can anyone not be "fussed" about a two stroke. Haven't you been inhaling the smoke? And what about the ringa-ding-dinga?

With all two strokes you must show it who is master. Not let it get ideas. Of course, sometimes you will lose, noone can ever expect always to control a two smoker. Take it out to somewhere like SH22 or Twilight Road and wring the nuts off it. Cane it through those corners without mercy, hammer it into the ground. Then it'll run like a charm. For a while, anyway.

Mark my words, once a biker's been two stroked, nothing else can ever live up to that standard.

EDIT: Remember to take a good tool kit. And a few spare spark plugs.

Okay okay, so maybe the GN lust thing was a bit over the top...

But I feel the RZ and I are not meant to be long term lovers...

I have a wife who has a tighter grip on the purse strings than a 14 year old boy in a lingerie store has on his tackle. (Admittedly, it's cos I am shite with money)

So I need something with looks, and affordability. Possibly even a project bike that requires minimal love. The RZ needs a re-paint, the frame needs to be taken back, basically it's going to be a long time before she is beautiful again, and every 6 months will be a WOF bodge session.

Dammit, she deserves better than me. She deserves a sugar daddy, I am merely saccharine! :(

See?? It begins! She's got you acting as her agent - back to the pit foul shade!

OK, I'll tell you what mate; I've got a great deal for you. Lets swap bikes. Mine is shiny, doesn't need repainting (OK, there's a few minor scratches). It's a minor project bike, as you asked for -- but doesn't require much cash (I've just bought a new cylinder head for it, so that's the major expense). When it's running with the new cylinder head, it's relatively powerful for a single-cylinder 4-stroke 250 (a lot more than a GN250!). No worries about WOF.

I'll take the RZ250 off your hands for you. I know they're a horrible bike, ugly and this 2-stroke bullshit, but I'd be willing to do that for the good of the KB community.

Best of all I'm not asking for any money -- just a straight swap! Easy as. No no, no need for thanks!

While 2 strokes do offer an alternative to the biking experience, I fail to see how 2 stokes have a higher standard collectively over all other biking experiences.

I had great fun riding a performance 2 stroke once, and it had great fun stealing vast quanties of cash from my wallet every month without even so much as a by your leave.

Exactly.

They're expensive, impractical, antisocial, environmentally disastrous, noisy, smelly, polluting , irresponsible , in y'r face hoon machines.

They're everything your mother and all God fearing sensible law abiding people disapprove of. And, thereby, everything that is the core of every biker.

Hahahah. Seriously though, I can understand your problem though - 100% flat-out never-let-up 2-stroke must get kind of tiring and even frustrating after a while. I mean if you're a sport-biker type then that might be your thing but not everything is like that (I'm not, although I could definitely stand an LC though, just because it's an LC :P).

However, I fear that you will find the GN250 somewhat lacking. Even compared to my rather sedate thumper (power-wise, at least), a GN250 seems... I don't know... less than thrilling. I'm hardly a knowledgeable biker, but riding a GN250 even compared to my CB250RS, the GN250 feels more like a commuter in the true sense of the word; something designed to get you from A to B. I'm sure that pissed off a whole lot of GN250 owners - they are nice bikes, and two wheels is better than most other numbers (zero and four included), but I fear that after coming off the ultimate 80s hoon weapon of choice, the GN250 will be a rather severe shock. Try one out first and see what they're like; you'll make your mind up pretty quick. I imagine that you'd get rather good resale on an RZ250, now that you've done a bit of work and it's road-worthy... I don't know what suggestions other people will have but perhaps a GB250? (note: do they have GB250s in NZ? Or are they a domestic model?). Enough shininess and style to keep you happy?

Do feel free to come over and take her for a squirt, or even better, pop along to the Bike Wash on Saturday, I'm hoping to have her on the road by then, and you're more than welcome to give her a spin.

You'll soon see that she is a heartless bitch, with love only for the wallets of already poor men.

From my distant experience of the RZ (when they were new) they were a good bike for everyday use. A good amount of low down power and when you wanted them to fly..........
